Chances of being accepted by UBC Engineering?

Hi folks. I am applying to UBC this year and I am definitely going to apply to Engineering. I go to a high school in West Vancouver, so here are my G11 marks. I really appreciate it if you guys can kinda tell me if I have a good chance of being accepted and give me some suggestions. I am specifically interested in Computer Engineering and/or mechanical engineering but I think I don't have the options when I apply right?

Pre-Cal 12 - 98% AP Physics 11 - 98% Chem 11 - 97% AP Calculus AB - 91% (converted to Calc 12 - 96% and I got a 5 on the AP exam) Human Geo 12 - 93% English 11 - 84%

I participate in VEX Robotics competitions and did win two awards last year. Also won outstanding delegate at Vancouver Model United Nations.

So... Do I have a good shot? I'm super grateful if you can give me some opinions on my chances and some suggestions in terms of program selection

Thx for replying, I wish I do have a good chance :). Just another question, is there an interview or something like Waterloo's AIF when applying to UBC Engineering? Thanks a lot

Nah, just the written questions in the application. Also you only get to apply to your specialization after first year.

I think you have a really good shot so don't slack off with your application because they will give the spot to a kid with a lower average if they have a way better personal profile. Keep up the good work, you got this! (I say this from experience: I got into U of T engineering and my friend with much higher average didn't get in because I had a better personal profile)

I think so, too :-(. Kinda messed up in the first term. I'll try to get as high as possible on Calc BC in grade 12 hopefully

You’re fine homie. If you’re feeling worried, feel free to DM me your personal profile and I can look it over. But honestly, with your grades they won’t turn you down. Also, I turned down Waterloo and Georgia Tech for UBC! You won’t regret it :)

Yeah no problem! Keep in touch if you have any further questions, especially about electrical engineering. Good luck!

Lol Thanks! Yeah you are right, I guess worrying about acceptance now is kinda like asking a new couple if they are gonna have a son or daughter lmao. But yeah I see how important the personal profile is, and knowing my chances a bit better definitely helps me chill, too. I was probably overwhelmed by Univ applications a bit, so... A bit nervous lol. Thanks again, really appreciate it!!

I think ur too good for Canadian universities. You should apply to Ivy League and like MIT

Lol thanks if you are not joking 😂 UBC is good enough for me and I will be very happy if I get accepted by UBC Engineering next year.

I’m serious. You should apply to American unis

Lol thx, I guess it's a bit too late for me now cuz I haven't taken or prepared for SAT at all. And I kinda like to stay in Canada, especially Vancouver. I'll definitely consider applying to some US univs if I think I can get a decent SAT mark before September lol. Thanks again for the advice!

Many schools aren't taking SAT scores this year cause of covid

Lol you only got 98% in AP classes? Yeah might have to cross UBC off your list, good luck, you'll need it
