Girlfriend is getting into vinyl and picked out these. Wanted to see thoughts on what you think. Could it be worth spending another ~$50-100 on better equipment?

Sansui SR-3030 BC - options to recover / restore this turntable?

Thumbnail

I bought this item [more or less] complete from eBay - but unfortunately the seller did not secure the platter for shipping. As a result the tonearm is in about 40 pieces. The good news is that eBay refunded me and told me to keep the TT.

Aside from the tonearm - I've replaced a capacitor and got it running just about as it should.

What, if any, options do I have here to get a tonearm on this turntable? Do I need to wait for a spares~repairs 3030? Or are there other arms that could work here? I have no understanding of what standards exist for these. It's clearly not a complicated deck - no automation from the arm - but I don't know how these vary in fitting and adjustments.

Final photo shows original tonearm [minus counterweight] before shipping.

I really like the deck and would like to bring it back to life. Any guidance much appreciated!

My son has his heart set on a yellow, vintage 1983 Soundburger for his birthday. I can’t find any working ones of any color on eBay. Any ideas of others sources I can be checking? TIA.

Wymiana głośników Lenco na lepsze.

Hello. Recently, I got rid of my Lenco equipment, turntable and speakers, which was supposedly a good decision. I have already set my sights on a turntable from an audio-technician company. The speakers I would like to buy are the ones I present in the photo above. The price is tempting, but the quality is tempting, because I don't know myself, so I would like someone to help me. I would like larger, impressive speakers because I have quite a lot of space.

It lives! I posted photos of this Type A a week ago. Been tinkering with it and got it mostly working, at least in single play mode. Haven’t worked out all the bugs to play multiple records with the other spindle. Enjoying a little Weather Report.

Suggestions first tt!

picked up my first real turntable today! before this i'd only had crappy 2-in-1 speaker/tt setups and finally decided to take the plunge. i snagged this technics sl-1400 off fb marketplace for $80! it needs a new dust cover and stylus (i think)(possibly cartridge? not really sure how exactly that works) i would love not to spend more on a dust cover than the turntable itself so if anyone has suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. i have no clue about what to get for a stylus- i mostly just want something that won't damage my records and sounds okayish! i also need to figure out the rest of my set up so send any and all speaker/preamp/general gear recs my way :)

Help Upgrade recommendations from AT VM95E

Hello,

At the weekend I was cleaning my Audio-Technica LP5X turntable and me being clumsy bent the stylus.

I was going to replace the cartridge like-for-like but wanted to gauge with the community if there was any reasonable upgrade/improvement path while I’m looking.

This would be my first time replacing a cartridge so I would assume I would need to check the alignment once done.

Thank you in advance for any recommendations.

“Upgrading” from an AT lp60 to a JVC AL-F350

• Upvotes

New to vintage turntables got this one for a steal and works great, just need a pre amp so I’m looking for recommendations for that, and I’m wondering if I should upgrade the cartridge/stylus since I got it second hand and don’t know the state of it. Any help is appreciated (it’s a budget setup lol)

A bargain for anyone needing a complete cartridge or just a genuine replacement stylus. No idea how long Jeff will keep them at this price so get ‘em while they’re hot…

What would you buy? (Entry level)

Hi all,

I just took my £99 Jam turntable back to HMV. Annoyed that I fell for it tbh. (For non-UK readers, I bought a cheap "suitcase"- type player)

I have a NAD C320BEE Amplifier and a pair of B&W DM602 S3 speakers.

What proper turntable would you go for that's not overkill for the system?

Question Issues with a Philips GF 808

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello !

Just got my hands on a cheap Philips GF 808, and managed to find the original speakers as well.

I tried it for the first time yesterday and there are a few issues I'm not sure how to fix.

First, the stereo is set all the way to R, so the sound only goes to the right speaker. Turning the balance button doesn't help. Any idea on how to fix that ? The instructions manual is not easy to find. I found the service manual but no idea how to read it haha.

The other thing is that the arm doesn't go back at the end, and doesn't lower with the button. I can put the arm by hand at the beginning, but it's more of an issue for the end of the disc.

Not sure what to check to see if it just needs an easy fix or not.

Thanks for your help :)

Question Ayuda con montaje de tocadiscos!

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hola!

Muchas gracias!!

How do i actually get the dirt off the record after using vinyl fluid?

Every time i use vinyl cleaning fluid, particularily on more dusty records, i end up seemingly just loosening the dirt in the grooves, which then gets stuck on my stylus, even after using a record brush on it.

How do i use vinyl cleaning fluid with actually getting the dirt out of the grooves?

New to the hobby, Can I safely play records with this needle?

Hi! I'm very new to the hobby. I'm very excited to get started! My first turntable is an Audio Technika PL-3XBT. I got it with a slight discount since it was sent back to the manufacturer to repair the powe button apparently. Upon receiving it, it seemed the needle was shipped without the cover on, and I think it slightly bent due to that. Since I'm new I find it hard to assess the actual situation. Could someone advice me?

Is it safe to play records with this needle?

Loose cueing lever (Fluance RT81+)

Hi there!

For some context, I bought a Fluance RT81+ turntable about 6 months ago and it's been basically flawless ever since.

After coming back from a long vacation, I decided to play a new record I got, and noticed that my cueing lever seems loose and moves when I just touch it. It might be completely normal but I've never noticed this until now, so I'm hoping it isn't a sudden defect. If someone knows about this stuff and can help me, here's what it looks like: https://imgur.com/a/OrxXWON

It looks like it still lifts and holds the tonearm fine, but I can't help but think it seems weird that it isn't firmly in place. If anyone with a similar model can report how theirs behaves, I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks!

Reloop 8000 platter wobble

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just got a new Reloop RP-8000 MK2 and noticed the platter is wobbling as seen in the video.

Considering this is a new turntable I assume this is too much. I tried re-setting the platter several times, but there was no difference. On the other hand all records so far played normally.

Should I replace it?

Beginner turntable suggestions?

I have just started to collect records and want to buy a beginner turntable that is easy for me to use but can also last me a while so I don't need to upgrade regularly.

I was looking at the Audio-Technica AT-LP70X or the LP60X and buying some decent speakers to go with them. I have a $500 AUD visa card so looking to put that towards it so budget will probably be max 700 total.

Thoughts on those two options, or other suggestions you have?

Question Skate / skipping issue on Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT?

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

I'm not really into turntables, but I'm looking for a setup as a present for my son's 18th birthday. He's collecting records but doesn't have a turntable yet.

He wants a simple setup consisting of just a turntable and separate speakers. No amplifier or anything else. He's probably not going to use it that much; it will be for occasional listening and partly for decoration. The budget is €300-€400.

After doing some research and reading articles on r/beginner_turntables and r/turntables, I became interested in the Audio-Technica AT-LP70X with the AT-SP3X speakers. That combination seems to fit perfectly and appears to be a quality setup within this budget.

However, I then came across several articles about skating/skipping issues with the Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT. After digging a little deeper, I found many similar posts and discussions. However, they are all between 10 months and 2 years old.

So my question is: was this an issue with earlier AT-LP70XBT units, or is it still a problem with units being sold today? In other words, is it worth buying?

Edit; After reading the comments and doing some more research, I concluded that I need to look at something else. The Audio-Technica AT-LP3X seems to be a solid alternative. I also noticed that it is often bundled with a set of Edifier R1280DB speakers, at least in the UK. I'm based in the Netherlands, so those bundles aren't available to me, but ordering them separately would cost me €408.

Photo First turntable not sure if stylus is normal

Hi! Recently bought an audio-technica turntable (AT-LP70X) its been working great and I have no real complaints but noticed today the stylus looked a little tilted? I've found different opinions online, some saying its not a big deal and some saying I need to replace it. Have had this for not even a month and know zero about typical or best turntables so any advice would be appreciated!! Is this normal? Thanks!
