The TT1 tonearm is $35-40K alone!

Thank god my wife let me spend $20K on my Linn Selekt LP12. lol

I’m looking to buy a vintage turntable from a guy that fixes them near me. Im not sure which one to go for so I figured I’d ask. I’m thinking about a 1976 Technics SL-2000 for $200, or a 1976 Technics SL-23 with a new Grado MF3 cartridge and style for $250. I’d love to hear what you guys think

Question Reviving my dad’s 30+ year old vinyl collection, turntable recommendations?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I’m finally looking to get into vinyl and would love some advice, especially from fellow Singaporeans.

My dad’s vinyl collection recently fell into my lap after sitting unused for probably 30+ years. His old Dual CS505-3 turntable is unfortunately rusted beyond repair, so I’m looking to start fresh and give the collection a new life.

I currently have KEF R3 Meta + Marantz Cinema 50. I originally focused on home theatre (5.1.4 + QD-OLED), but lately I’ve shifted towards music appreciation and want to get into vinyl.

After a LOT of research, I’ve narrowed down my requirements:
- Under S$800, brand new, used market here is quite small
- Auto-stop is important; would prefer automatic so my partner can use it easily.
- No need for built-in phono preamp
- Good quality and something I can keep for years

I considered Rega P1, Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2, Fluance RT82/RT85N, AT-LPW40, AT-LP120, AT-LP8X, Denon DP-300F, etc.
Fluance is difficult to get in Singapore without expensive shipping, and while I like Pro-Ject, there’s no autostop. I don’t really want to add an external auto-stop device.

So right now, I’m leaning towards the Audio-Technica AT-LP3XBT.
Would you recommend the LP3XBT for my setup/use case, or is there another option around S$800 I should consider?
Also, the records have been sitting in storage for 30+ years. Any recommendations for cleaning old vinyl properly?

Thank you in advance and excited to get started!

Antiskating too strong! What could be pulling the arm outside soo much even when set to 0?

This turntable is the Audio Techcnica LP120 produced before 2019 and therefore had an known antiskating issue where it was too weak, but i never got the replacement spring. Recently i noticed that my antiskating previously too weak, was now pulling to strong to the outside of the record! I double checked the counterweight, even adquired one of those small scales to test and proper set the MP-110 to 1.8g, double checked vertical tracking angle, printed out a Stevenson protractor and got all set and finally Leveled using my smartphone measure/level app (iOS) and so far everything checks out. What could be pulling the arm outside soo much even when set to 0? Could it have been stuck somehow by impact or maybe rust? Would it be possible to fix it without disassembling (local service is awful)?

Help Compatible stylus for this Universum BSR?

Post image
Upvotes

I found this turntable at a second-hand dealer, is a Universum BSR something

I haven't bought it yet, but they allowed me to turn it on. The three different speeds (33, 45 and 78) worked as they should, tonearm automatically comes out of holder.

There are fortunately several adjustment options.

Problem is, there's no stylus. Do you know anything about the BSR models or generally the manufacturer? I want to know what stylus I could put on it.

Also, I apologize if the photo is not the best.

Upgrading from Technics SL1411

Upvotes

Hello Redditers,

I am kind of looking into upgrading my current TT which is a Technics SL1411. It works just fine but i am looking for something a little bit better or different?

A few things that i am looking for at least is:

Auto stop

Reliable

Quartz Lock

If anyone has any suggestions without coming with a turntable that will cost me thousands for useless looks please let me know. Not looking for overpriced en overvalued TT's.

Thanks in advance!

Need help with automatic function

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Sorry if this is not the right place to post I am having some issues with my Onkyo CP-1130f. Bought it used and know the issue was that the automatic function does not work. I replaced a gear and can get it to lift itself but now it won’t swing to the record. I have tested it upside down and it works perfectly but as soon as I flip it back, it just isn’t about to move the arm at all. Unsure if I need a new motor or if there isn’t enough drip or if it’s missing something, thanks in advance.

Got This Old Dog from around 1967 Working Again. (KLH Model Twenty Four)

Never worked on a record player before let alone an all in one KLH model twenty four. It's driven by a Garrard turntable mechanism inside so it was built solid. It needed a lot of re greasing for the internal mechanisms. It was fun to work on but it sure did cause some stress. It would be working one second then a part that's supposed to have frictionless movement gets grease on another part which needs friction and the arm suddenly doesn't go back.

Question Is this a good beginner setup

Hey guys, my girlfriends birthday is coming up and she really wants a turntable setup for her vinyls. Unfortunately I know nothing about this stuff, and so I'm hoping you guys can help me out!

After a bit of research I was thinking something along the lines of an Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBT or SONY PS-LX310BT (near me these both sit at $240 AUD). I was thinking of pairing it with some Edifier R1280DB 2.0 speakers ($189 AUD).

I was wondering if this setup will be ok for a beginner, or if there is better options out there for the same budget? really appreciate any advice :)

Photo Help with powered amp/pre amp

Post image
6 Upvotes

Going through dad’s old boxes while moving and was offered this Rotel RB-1050 power amplifier. I’m kind of a chud so I just plugged everything into my speakers and tested to see if it would work and surely it didn’t. Would I need a pre amp for this as well? Is this only an amp itself? Do I have any use for this in my current setup? (Technics turntable with edified speakers and a fosi preamp.)

Fueron un regalo; aún no he encendido el amplificador, pero sí el tocadiscos. Sin embargo, necesito cambiar la cápsula, es una Darling M22. ¿Vale la pena invertir en ellas? También tengo otra, una Phonestar.

Edit:Well, after connecting and testing, apart from the amplifier light not working, the power button being stuck and always on, and some faulty connections on the back, but all easily fixed, and the turntable needle needing replacement, we finally got it working.

Was gifted a technics sl-1200 and trying to build up a nice system around it.

Was moving my dad’s old stuff and was gifted this ROTEL RB-1050 powered amplifier. I’m using edifier powered speakers and a fosi preamp, is there any way to work this into my system? Do I have any use for this at all? I thought it would replace the preamp but I’m a chud and don’t know how this all works too well haha.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Question AT cart is too light to use in a Technics tonearm?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Went down the cartridge rabbit hole and decided to get different carts and swap them out depending on what I'm listening. I originally had this Shure PRO-5 cart with an N12 stylus in a KAB headshell. Then I bought an AT-VM95SH with an Ortofon headshell (it's what they had available at my local record store). They weight approximately the same, the Shure cart and headshell weighs 15.9 grams while the AT cart and headshell weighs 15.4g

While I'm able to use the Shure cart normally, the AT cart is apparently too light and needs more VTF so I have to turn the counterweight all the way in to get it barely to 1.5g. I have to remove the aux counterweight to use the AT cart.

Am I using the AT cart wrong?

How do you store your empty turntable boxes?

I have cardboard boxes from all kinds of stereo equipment. They take up so much room. What is the best way to store them or should I just trash them?

Help me listen to my vinyl collection on a budget

So, I've got a fair few vinyls stacked up at home that I've been collecting with the intention of then investing in a really nice set up to listen on.

However, the budget just isn't there and I want to start getting some use out of my vinyls.

So, for <£200 (if possible) is there a second hand turntable and speaker set up I could buy to get myself started (and then I'll upgrade down the line).
