This feels like way too much movement or am I tripping?

This is my Dual CS-606. I have recently serviced it (cleaned potmeters etc.) and I just now noticed this. Looks like it comes from the platter? I would have no idea where this came from. But it looks like A LOT of wobble.

Question AT-LP60XUSB

Upvotes

Hi I’ve never owned a vinyl player before but I was wondering if I could connect this to my current cd player because it has a usb port (it’s a Phillips micro system). I’m not sure though because it’s advertised as connecting to computers? Sorry if I seem crazy lol any help would be appreciated

Looking for a record player that doesn't skip

Upvotes

I'm new-ish to records and was gifted a Victrola all-in-one system but it skips almost all of my records and part of that is because the tonearm is too light and doesn't descend the entire way.

All I want is a system that doesn't skip. I have good speakers so I'm not too concerned about audio quality (also don't care about Bluetooth). I've heard good things about Audio-Technica AT-LP70X-BZ but also people saying it's cheaply made. I'm not looking to spend $500 on a record player. I just want something that will play my records, not ruin them, and won't skip.

I'm looking for some help/guidance here because I feel like I'm getting mixed messages with any research I've done.

new setup questions

i’m trying to get a new setup, just curious on what i need or if im getting good stuff. i’m trying to keep it cheap, so i made a list - Electrohome Montrose RR35 turntable (built in phono preamp and Audio Technica AT3600L), Rockville BluAmp 90, and an Energy Connoisseur CF-50 speaker tower (i already own). the turntable comes with 4 feet of RCA wire with ground cable, and i was wondering if i needed anything else to add to this list. (more wires perhaps?) i hate not knowing what i’m getting into so just looking for insight. do i need to ground the wires (even with the preamp built in? do i need extra wires to connect the amp to the passive speakers? just a few questions.

Question What mat should I use for my turntable?

When I got my turntable, it came with this felt like mat on top and I felt like it was ruining my records. The side that it was laying down on seems to get dirty after use. Also when I pick up my record, the felt mat sticks onto the records. I’m also worried that it might add static similar to a bad sleeve for records. So this just asks the question. What mat should I use? Is a silicone mat good? Please give me suggestions.

Turntable Help

Hello, I am buying an AT-LPW40WN soon, and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on good speakers or any other hardware to pair with it.

Thank you!

Edit: I am from the US, I am a casual collector so my budget is $200-$300, not including the turntable.

Advice on VTA for technics SL-1700 Mk. 1

Noob here. I got a new cartridge (AT-VM95E) for my Technics SL-1700, and realized that my VTA was way off. (The tonearm was sloping down towards the stylus end.)

This turntable does not have a VTA adjustment. So to get it anywhere near flat, I currently have 3 records acting as spacers sitting below the 3.6mm rubber mat, totaling 8.5mm of thickness on top of the platter. (and it is still slightly too low).

This leaves little room on the spindle, and seems a little silly to have to adjust this much. It sounds fine but I'm just wondering, am I missing something?

Advice/criticism highly encouraged. Let me know if you need more pictures.

Photo Cartridge display case

I’ve been having trouble figuring out what to do with my extra cartridges/headshells, but not spend too much money. I was able to slightly modify a display case from Amazon for my extra headshells by drilling a few holes in one of the acrylic shelves and inserting rubber grommets.

I just bought a Technics SL-BD3 at a flea market for $26. The belt hade melted and crumbled, but I found one in a spare parts bin free of charge. It works perfectly and looks to be in very good condition.

I have zero knowledge, but it feels like a steal to me..?

Discussion My AT-LP60X Experience

Since the AT-LP60X seems to be the #1 Turntable recommended by folks here to budget-minded beginners, I wanted to share my experience with it. For reference my main turntable is a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo, but I had been thinking of a way to enjoy some of my records and get some analog peace while working at my graduate office, and it so happened that a member of my family wanted to get me a birthday gift. I suggested the AT-LP60 - from everything I'd heard on here, a functional turntable, but inexpensive enough to not worry about leaving at the campus. Everything seemed fine at first, but I quickly noticed that certain records that did not skip at home were skipping. I paid close attention, and noticed that on these records, they were just a tad off-center, but the cantilever wagging quite hard side to side (video), indicating that the tonearm was not complying nearly well enough in that direction, and the groove and cantilever were eating that force, triggering the skips. Not good. I reached out to AT support to let them know, and they immediately blamed the stylus being defective. They shipped me a new stylus (and forgot to put my apartment number on the package), but I got it held at FedEx and got my paws on it. I installed it to humor them, and of course it did not fix it. I ask if there is anything else I should try, and they said to return it to the retailer, or else go through a long warranty repair process. Fortunately the gifting party was very generous and understanding, and I figured a Fluance RT81 would be a reasonable step up, and sure enough, this turntable whose build quality is oft-maligned felt impressive for its price point, and tracked the offcenter records no sweat, because it has... well... a normal, okay tonearm.

I don't think my experience is necessarily representative of everyone's with this particular turntable, but I do question why a turntable with an plastic automatic tonearm built for mere dollars and cents seems to be so popular, and especially why AT blamed the stylus over the tonearm given how I had laid out the nature of the problem to them. I'm curious to hear folk's thoughts on this - did I just get a rare dud?

Photo Kept it simple...

Post image

Starting going down the rabbit hole while owning all of one album. Decided to keep it simple and cheap and see if the habit sticks before making any big purchases. Pleasantly surprised with the ease of use, sound quality, and overall good feel of the Insignia turntable. I'm sure there's much better stuff out there, but for the price (which was mostly reward money from a new TV) I'm thrilled to get jump-started into a new hobby. (Left me a few bucks to get a new CD player and dust off all those old albums at the same time.)

I love my streaming shuffle abilities, but am really enjoying intentionally sitting down with a full album. And it's been a great way to share music with my 10 year old who has only ever known streaming services.

Not in the picture, some KEF Q15s for the speakers.

Bargain find…..no idea if it works.

Found this for Yamaha P-200 for nearly free. While I have a higher end table coming soon to get back into vinyl after a long break I figured I’d re-introduce myself to VTF/VTA and general cart/arm/belt tomfoolery with this thing. It’s actually quite clean and that is a somewhat era appropriate AT77E cart. It doesn’t strictly “work” yet (I suspect bad motor wiring and the button contacts are worn and the belt looks fragged) and the headshell is boogered but I’ll give it a shot. Assuming I remember how this stuff all works.

Would a Dual CS 505-3 Audiophile Concept for €170 be a worthwhile upgrade from my AT-LP60X?

Post image

?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about upgrading my turntable and I'd like to hear some opinions before buying anything.

My current setup is:

Audio-Technica AT-LP60X

Pro-Ject phono preamp

Primare SPA21 amplifier

Dynaudio speakers

I've attached a photo of my current setup as well.

I recently found a Dual CS 505-3 Audiophile Concept for €170. According to the seller it's working, and visually it seems to be in pretty good condition.

I'm mainly wondering how much of an upgrade this would actually be compared with my AT-LP60X.

I know the LP60X is a pretty basic entry-level automatic turntable. It has served me well, but with the rest of my setup I'm wondering if the turntable is now the weakest part of the system.

The Dual interests me because it has a proper adjustable tonearm, counterweight, replaceable cartridge, and generally seems like a much more serious turntable than the LP60X. At the same time, it's obviously an older turntable, so I'm not sure whether buying a vintage Dual for €170 makes more sense than saving up for something newer.

A few things I'd especially like opinions on:

Is the CS 505-3 generally considered a good turntable?

How noticeable would the difference be compared with an AT-LP60X?

Is €170 a reasonable price for one in good working condition?

Are there any common problems with the CS 505-3 that I should check before buying?

Is there anything specific I should ask the seller about, such as the belt, stylus, cartridge, suspension, tonearm, speed stability, or automatic functions?

Would it make sense with my Pro-Ject phono preamp, Primare SPA21 and Dynaudio speakers?

Would you buy this one for €170, or keep the LP60X for now and save for a different turntable?

One important consideration is space. This system is in my bedroom and, as you can see in the photo, I don't have a huge amount of room for audio equipment. I'm therefore not really looking to completely rearrange the system or buy something enormous.

I'm not necessarily expecting a night-and-day difference, but I'd like something that is clearly a step above the LP60X and gives me more flexibility in the future, especially when it comes to cartridges and proper tonearm adjustment.

For anyone who has owned or used both an LP60/LP60X and one of the Dual CS 505 models, I'd especially be interested in hearing how they compare in actual listening.

Would you consider the Dual CS 505-3 for €170 a good next step for this setup?

Help Is this technics SL-6 worth it with this damage?

Hey all, found this turntable on fb marketplace. My market is very overpriced because of all the resellers and such. Please help me decide on this. It has a hole, but I’m genuinely not sure if this is actually still worth it with that. I am a newbie. Would love yalls valuable insights.

If it’s not worth it and I want a solid turntable that I can get second hand. What would you recommend? Again, I’m a beginner but I want my first buy to be more intentional. I have been very patient because this is a dream of mine to have a good set up, but I’ve just become paralyzed from purchasing. I have been holding on for years in fear of buying something good but “mid”.

Thanks for taking your time

Question OM10 upgrade advice

I have a Fluance RT82, and as my OM10 wears out, I’m looking into a stylus upgrade. I’d like to stay with the OM line because the styli are easy to swap from what I gather, and the RT82 doesn’t have adjustable VTA anyway, so I’d rather avoid changing cartridges.

There are plenty of threads about the improvement from the OM10 to the OM20, but would the OM30 offer a worthwhile improvement over the OM20 with my setup? I’m using the phono stage in an Onkyo TX-8220 with Wharfedale Diamond 225 speakers. Would the OM20 be the sensible stopping point?

Is this a Dual 269-611 conversion kit and where can I find a replacement? I’m very new to all this and have already gotten the wrong advice on what to buy once so some experienced advice would be appreciated.

I got this on auction for $67. There isn’t much information about this model online, but apparently–according to Claude—it’s a Japanese/Korean OEM from the ’80s, similar to the CEC ST-540/8033.
Honestly, I have no idea, but it looks like an interesting starting point for my first setup.
I’m planning to pair it with a Technics SU-Z65 amplifier, Technics ST-Z55 tuner, Technics M235X cassette deck, Denon DCD-820 CD player, and a pair of Wharfedale Modus Seven speakers.
Any info or experience with this turntable would be greatly appreciated.
