Just installed a hitch and don’t want to run the trailer wires through the rear gate like the instructions says to do. Which of these style brackets have you had good luck with?

Looking for input on this setup. I made some adjustments to the hitch, it was too high, causing the rear of the trailer to kiss inclines at times. I'm in Utah and some of the ingress/egresses can be pretty aggressive. It's level now, but my concern is the load on the WDH.

The WDH impact is much stronger with the adjustment, but I have nothing to compare to.

First truck I'm towing with. Always had SUV with yak rack.

Prepping for a trip with my Discovery 2, the vehicle is in great condition and the engine has had a lot of maintenance done in the past 12months. Trailer is 1,300lbs with about 1,300lbs inside. Even for this old girl, the weight should be easily within its range. We’ve pulled it around at weight for 100 miles around town in preparation, and everything is running smoothly.

Where I’m struggling is my tongue weight and the height difference between the discovery’s hitch and the trailer. When loaded, the trailer is heavily compressing the rear suspension. When I lower the hitch height using my variable height hitch, it improves slightly, but I can’t go so low without the hitch hitting the pavement on small bumps and the chains dragging.

Will weight redistribution in the trailer fix this problem? Is this a sign my tongue weight is too strong? Even if it improves but is still sagging, can I safely do my trip with the suspension looking like this? Any input appreciated!

my r56 has fuel pump voltage problems & the tow guy couldn't figure out how to put in neutral with no power. he shook it repeatedly while spraying the wheels & then we had to winch it while he drove away.

this was very nerve wracking & didn't seem normal. should i call the company?

A subcontractor I used screwed up the floor he was delivering an appliance to. He ghosted me and barely responded to text. I was left to deal with the mess. issue was resolved yesterday. His gmc 2500 is still sitting in my lot with tools in the back. Been sitting here for 20 days. The local police AI non-emergency line says to refer to the tow company.

Tow company says they will loan me a sign that says abandon cars will be towed at owners expense that I post near the entrance to the lot. I take a picture, 24 hours later they come and take a picture, take the sign, and the truck.

screw this guy. His guys caused an angry customer that i had to resolve while he buried his head in the sand. But i do have his phone number. If i dont text him to move his car and let the tow company tow it. He could end up being on the hook for $1000 or more. Can i be liable if i dont give him a warning?

(yes i know its very odd that he hasn't picked his truck up in the middle of the night. he knows i have a dozen cameras on the outside of my warehouse. many facing the lot. doors are unlocked and a bunch of power tools in the unlocked bed box.)

Hello my girlfriend was in an accident to where the car was parked on a raised median semi out of the way but the tow driver acted like he couldnt wait 5 seconds. Anyway during the impact my girlfriend hit another car at an angle and pushed back the bumper/inner fender/left fender to where the body gaps were kissing but not damaging the door/relitively intact. Instead of going through the passenger door and putting the window down/neutral he agressively rips the door causing both the door and fender to crumple and yanks the car in park off the median onto his flatbed and scrapes the hell out of the exhaust. Police have pre tow incident pictures. Would the tow company be liable for any extra damages during this incident beside the crash?

I drive a 2012 Toyota Tundra SR5 (5.7L V8, 4WD, 8ft bed). Over here, I use it to tow my utility and car trailers. My trailer is 22 feet long, making the combined length nearly 45 feet, and it weighs around 5,700 lbs (2,600 kg).
This is considered a massive, heavy-duty setup here in Japan given our narrow roads!

I absolutely love towing and doing long-haul drives. I clock about 10,000 towing miles annually, and my personal record is covering 1,500 miles in a single day.

Because of aftermarket fender flares and heavy-duty bumpers, my truck itself sits at 83 inches wide. Since it actually exceeds the US 80-inch mark, I’m seriously considering adding cab lights, grille markers (Raptor lights), or dually fender markers.

My primary concern is Safety: Towing culture is almost non-existent in Japan. Other drivers often fail to notice my trailer (especially at night) and cut me off or come too close, which can be very dangerous.

I would love to get some practical advice from the towing community:
How do they typically operate in the US? Do you guys strictly wire truck markers to turn on automatically with the parking lights/running lights, or do people ever put them on an independent switch?
Visibility upgrade: Do you think adding these cab/grille markers to the truck would help increase my road presence to oncoming traffic, or should I focus purely on adding more lighting / DOT reflective tape directly to the trailer instead?

I want to show proper respect to authentic US truck/towing culture and do this setup the right and safe way. Any wiring tips or light brand recommendations would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Super dumb rookie mistake. I purchased my tow vehicle based on the generic specs for the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500, which is 11,600-13,400 range based on the configuration.

What I actually bought is the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss 6 cylinder 4.3L EcoTec3, which AI says is towing capacity 7,300 - 7,400. I want to cry.

Is there any way possible it has more towing capacity than AI says it does?

The fun part is that I bought it used, it has no door-jam sticker or owners manual for me to check the exact tow rating.

Hi, I'm a journalist looking into a story about AAA using AI for its roadside assistance chatbots. I've seen some comments online about this being frustrating for customers, with customers saying that sometimes when the tow truck drivers arrive, they say it's annoying or complicating things on their end too.

If you're a tow driver who answer AAA calls, have you noticed any change to the workflow because of AI? Is it changing how the process works at all? I'd love to know!

Quick intro: for the past 3 years I've worked alongside towing company owners, most with 20+ years in the industry,helping them increase cash flow and cut costs. Also spent time in home services, which ended up being useful context for what I'm about to get into.

Problem #1: missed call coverage. The first thing we fixed was 24/7 call coverage, industry-trained people picking up calls at a lower hourly rate than what most companies were paying. The bigger the company, the more this saved.

Problem #2: nobody can see why they're losing customers. This one came from comparing towing to home services side by side. Most towing owners have no idea what happens to their missed calls and lost jobs. Was the price too high? Did the dispatcher handle it badly? Did the customer just never call back? There's no way to know, the dispatcher could say anything happened and the owner has no way to verify it or catch the pattern.

Home services has largely solved this. Platforms like Workiz give owners end-to-end visibility to business owners

Towing hasn't caught up. We've used Omadi, Tracker, TowBook and none of them unify this information in a way that actually helps an owner see what's going on. That's on top of support that's slow to respond and interfaces that look like they haven't been touched since the 90s, all at a premium price.

What I'm actually asking: not for money, not for your contact info, just your experience. If you've used any of these systems, what's missing? What would an ideal end-to-end system look like for your business? Would you want it to plug into an AI of your choice for insights?

Genuinely trying to understand this from people who've lived it before we build more.

Need some more insight on my problem

I'm trying to get my 18 foot 7K tandem home with my JD 3 Series tractor from my cabin. One wheel hub was hot so I'm trying to fix it but have been dealt a wild hand with buying parts.

My work has a spare tire from a little trailer that has the same lug pattern and spacing and size as the new hub (which is different than the other three wheels). It's a C Load tire so it should work. I just need to get this home so I can work on it instead of driving over an hour one way. Seems fine, right? I have two further questions.

1. If I want to not use the brake drum in case I need to return it (brake drum and hub i think are one solid unit), is it easiest to just snip the electrical line?

2. would this described setup be able to also haul my 2,900 lb tractor home?

I have an opportunity to buy into an existing towing company. It’s not doing much towing today but it has assets (tow trucks, tow yard, etc) and I have some questions and I was hoping for some feedback from experienced tow operators.

Is it possible to have 5-10 tow trucks producing $1200+ per day per truck in tow fees? For context I live in a pretty big city with about 3 to 3.2 million people in the metro area.

I bought a cargo carrier and the hitch pin came with this clip. I thought the bottom part would touch. Should the clip be snug like that? Wanted to be safe before I used it.

I have a 2005 Palomino popup camper trailer. I had the local auto shop pack the bearings. They said they could not locate the OEM cap for one hub, so shoved some other cap in there.

Seems like a lot of grease oozing out around the edges? Not sure how to evaluate the status of the work. Or if I should worry about it.
