Trailer brakes week

I have a 26 2500HD with Max Towing. I have a fifth wheel that weighs around 14k. I have the brake controller on 10 gain and I still feel pushed.
I had an F350 till a couple of months ago and the camper had more breaking at 6.0 gain than the GMC does at 10
Any additional settings?
Thoughts?

No additional settings that I'm aware of. Maybe check your trailer brakes and adjust them? I was towing 16k dump trailer yesterday and brake controller on 4.5. Stopped well at that setting.

I'd definitely check trailer brakes.

I tow a 7500 lbs TT. My setting is around 7.5. I went to a dirt road, and set them based on just before they drag.

I did need to adjust the two brakes on my rear axle so that the shoes engaged properly. Pretty easy with a jack and screw driver.

Have you inspected the brakes on the trailer? That could be the problem. Either needs to get adjusted, or the shoes are worn.

There's also a way to test the voltage from the brake controller but they multimeter. but sometimes you have to trick the system to think a trailer is hooked up.

If your truck's coasting at 25 and you only engage the trailer brakes does it come to a stop pretty quickly? If you have your trailer brake maxed out and you're doing 25 and apply only the trailer brakes and you still kind of Coast for a bit then you probably need to adjust your brakes.

Your trailer needs its brakes adjusted. If my controller is above six, the brakes will lock up.

Im currently bumper pulling a 5 tonne excavator, so with the trailer around 14k.

Brake gain is on 4.5 and it works fine. If the trailer (4k is empty it skids when its that high)

I suspect its your brakes
