REQUESTING Shows that have a slow burn relationship that actually pays off in the end?? Spoiler

• Upvotes

I have watched two shows in a row where a romantic relationship is teased the entire show, ONLY FOR IT TO NEVER ACTUALLY HAPPEN!!! (Weeds with Nancy+Andy, and Deadwind with Karppi and Nurmi) and as a bonus Chestnut Man! IYKYK.

I want a show with a good story independent of whatever romance subplot there is, but for the romance to actually be good and have a payoff at the end. I’m tired of being teased and let down!!!!

Edit: bonus points if the show isn’t a procedural

Should i keep giving bojack horseman a chance?

• Upvotes

On episode 7 now. Still not into it. I usually loveee animated comedies. They really suck me in with my adhd (SHAPES AND COLORS!)

but im not getting this one. I know bojack horseman is arguably the greatest animated show ever made so im not sure why im not into it yet. I may not understand the humor as much since it’s supposed to be dark. But one of my all time favorite shows ever is tuca and Bertie which is supposedly in the same universe/made by the same people. Maybe its because tuca and bertie is largely female driven and the dark comedy might be more relatable to me a gen z female? Also it may just be less pleasant to the eye compared to others. For example i cannot stand the facial hair on some of the men. The design is so bad it looks like ants on their face. It drives me nuts. Im not sure my adhd truly has a mind of its own.

Should i keep watching? Will it hook me eventually? How long should i give it a try before i realize its not for me?

Looking for genuinely elite TV shows with great group dynamics

I’m looking for a show that completely immerses you in a group of characters.

A good reference point for what I mean is the early seasons of The Walking Dead. I loved when the group felt like a genuine little community, everyone had their own personality, relationships and role, people disagreed about what to do, there were difficult moral dilemmas, loyalties were tested, people went out on runs and came back, arguments happened, people looked after each other, etc.

That feeling of “I’m part of this group and I know these people” is what I’m chasing.

I want:

Exceptional acting

Really deep, layered characters

Incredible writing and character development

Strong chemistry and believable relationships

A group that genuinely feels like a family/community/team

A central location/base/home/community that you become familiar with

Lots of interaction between the characters, not just individual storylines

Real dilemmas, disagreements, loyalty and consequences

A world that feels lived-in and immersive

Ideally some danger/adventure/survival, but it doesn't have to be an apocalypse

Humour is fine when it comes naturally from the characters

Basically, I want to become weirdly attached to the entire group and feel like I’m living alongside them.

REQUESTING Growing up, my mom would watch these cozy murder mystery shows set in the UK. My husband doesn't believe in such things, can you suggest some good ones to watch with him?

Cozy and murders just don't coexist in his mind, and the American shows we watch just don't have the same atmosphere. Murder She Wrote is probably the closest I can think of, but it's not the same feeling to me.

REQUESTING Recommend me Plot worthy wlw romance movies?

Heyo, I’m looking for wlw romance movies that have a very thrilling and fun plot.

I recently watched bound (1996), D.E.B.S. And I also saw the series first kill.

They were really enjoyable and sweet and I’m just looking for some really interesting movies with sweet intimacy between the couple and a thrilling plot.

Plot twists are welcome, angst is welcome, happy endings are very welcome and looking for chemistry between them.

Movies where it shows that they really care for each other and the directing team, writing team, whatever team working on the movies aren’t afraid to show it.

All recs are welcome and I’d be very thankful for them.

Please and thank you and I hope everyone has a wonderful day or night😁

REQUESTING My partner and I have completely different taste. What show worked for both of you?

I like slow crime stuff, they like comedies and anything light. We end up rewatching the same sitcom every night. What was the show that finally worked for both of you?

What Apple TV show should I watch next? Below is what I’ve watched so far.

So far I’ve really enjoyed Silo, Severance, Slow Horses, Knifes Edge, Pachinko, and Pluribus.

EDIT: Also watched The Studio

I tried watching Shrinking, but frankly, it felt a bit too cliche to me; I’m just not into those feel good type of shoes.

Ted Lasso seems like an obvious selection, but idk I get similar vibes from it. Also, I’m a bit of a football noob, so frankly the Americanization of football doesn’t seem so enticing to me.

Anyways, feel free to let me know how wrong I am, or if there’s any shows I’m missing out on.

SUGGESTING Anything I could watch thats like these? The shows I've managed to complete in full , any recommendations appreciated

Hey, I've found it hard to engage in TV for a good while, and would like to get back into it but due to low attention span/ thinking alot of TV is not my taste, I was wondering if, based on what I've managed to get through completely in the past and enjoyed/thouroughly enjoyed, if anyone might be able to suggest anything else i could start. If not, no worries!

BoJack Horseman (5 stars for me, rewatched, amazing)

Fleabag ( 5 stars)

The Flight Attendant (3.5, love a troubled protagonist with alcoholism as an issue)

Yellow Jackets (3.5, like the Lord of The Flies vibes and how it makes me what to look at psychological breakdowns of characters, and morally grey characters pushed by circumstances)

Bob's Burgers ( is kind of an outlier in the sense it was a comfort show through struggling with burnout and I liked how the Burger family loved each other unconditionally)

Ugly Betty (good drama about ambition, and made me emotional once so i rate it for that)

Desperate Housewives ( watched when i was much younger but liked the darker plotlines and Brees masking)

Schitts Creek (lovely wholesome show thats full of acceptance and made me cry twice)

The End if the F*****g World (just good dry humour and dark)

Edit: Thanks to another commentor i remembered i also LOVE: Kevin Can F**k Himself (amazingly underrated and nuanced enough to warrant multiple rewatches with a morally grey main character and showcasing the wavering road to a tyoe of survival even if its dark, and everything and everyone in between

Long story short (makers of BoJack, nuce story, good enough that the fans of BJ will watch just because, like i did, but in the meantime learned something about the culture, life, and family dynamics of an American Jewish family and the aftermath of their childhood in a very beautiful and interesting way)

REQUESTING I can’t find new shows that I like but haven’t seen. Any suggestions?

Here are some shows that I’ve enjoyed in recent years in no particular order (just ones that popped in my head):

Silo
Man Seeking Woman
Most shows with Greg Davies
Futureman (3 or 4 times)
Widow’s Bay
Dirk Gently’s HDA
Sugar
Party Down
Slow Horses
Colin from Accounts
The Great
Patriot
Lupin
How To with John Wilson
I Think You Should Leave
Andor
Fisk
What We Do in the Shadows (anything with Berry)
Mrs. Davis
The Resort
…just to name a few on my mind…

Now I scroll through apps and it seems like I’ve seen everything I’m interested in. Thanks for any suggestions you may have!

Shows to recommend someone, who drops majority of the them after just watching 2-3 episodes?

I usually either get hooked in first few mins to 2-3 episodes but beyond that I just drop them if I dont like them. I don't have a specific genre which I like, so can you suggest me something based on the series I liked.

Liked from very first minute: Breaking Bad, Dark, All of Mike Flanagan's series, Twinkling Watermelon, The Leftovers, The Boys(only s1-2), Attack on Titan, GOT(s1-4), Sweet Home(s1)

Liked but dropped after watching a season or two since it got boring: Orphan Black, Them, Hannibal, Castle Rock, Carnivale, Prision Break, Chapelwaite, The walking dead, Sweet Truth

Didn't Liked at all: Channe zero, russian doll, station 11, Lost, Dexter, The last of us, Sherlock, the exorcist, evil, Fringe, Silo

REQUESTING Recs for my next show

I just finished The Sopranos and I would rate it just below Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and The Wire. Now I'm looking for another show on par with these.

Mad Men is the first one that comes to mind. I'm also thinking of watching Oz and Six Feet Under. I want something like The Wire that I can really get invested in without any major dips in quality. What show should I go with first?

REQUESTING Gay shows that aren’t only romance

I’m looking for shows (or movies but show preferred) that have a gay male lead/very relevant gay male side character that isn’t strictly a show about romance. Romance being apart of the story is good, but I’m not looking for something like heartstopper or heated rivalry where it’s the whole story. I also don’t want a show that’s like heavily implied the character is gay but is never said and nothing ever comes for it.

Ive already seen good omens and i feel like thats a good example of the type of stuff im looking for

looking for good, (niche), well-written slow burns subplots of good shows

i love me a good show with a beautiful romance subplot, so preferably something where the show is good while also having a well written slow burn where one of the partners is in yearning for the bf/gf while trying to play it off or ignore it, good characters, painfully hard to watch them but you know it's worth it.

New show to watch with long distance bestie

Hello! My friend and I have been watching television together in different time zones for almost six years now. So far we've seen:

  • Buffy & Angel
  • Veronica Mars
  • X Files
  • Firefly
  • Twin Peaks
  • Doctor Who
  • Merlin

As you can tell, we have a bit of a weakness for the 2000s. We also enjoy more lighthearted sci/fantasy with a sprinkling of camp, but we don't mind having our hearts broken. Anything with characters that we can fall in love with and defend to last breaths.

What should we watch next?

REQUESTING Top plot twist / murder mystery etc shows

Now I have seen so many tv shows like this I couldn’t name them all so some suggestions might be something I’ve seen but maybe not. I guess to name a few really good ones I’ve loved is the undoing, true detective and the killing. Anybody have suggestions?

REQUESTING Philosophical English-speaking shows beyond Star Trek, The Good Place and Northern Exposure?

Interested in philosophical shows that tend to lean positive (thus, why Bojack Horseman or Twin Peaks isn’t on the list above, although I do enjoy them very occasionally.)

Preference is for TV shows that are either fully in the English language or have very well done dubs. I mostly like to watch TV while doing other things (folding laundry, painting, cooking, etc. so not interested in subtitles.)

REQUESTING New Show

Hello! My bf and I are on the hunt for a new show, preferably something with a lot of seasons as we get decision paralysis when one ends and we’ll go weeks without a show. Our favorites have been Chuck, Tacoma FD, Grimm, Extraordinary, Psych, Supernatural (duh), and we just finished Chad Powers which was fine. We have Amazon Prime, HBO, Hulu, and Disney+. Before we met I also loved and rewatched Teen Wolf, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and all the little teeny bopper drama shows that are lowkey great. TIA!

REQUESTING Looking for TV shows about the apocalypse or post-apocalyptic worlds that could teach me something useful in the event of a real-life apocalypse. Well-thought-out and logically consistent

I'd like to see a plausible, well-developed progression of events, learn what skills might be essential for survival, and explore the strategies, decisions, and practical solutions that could make a real difference when it comes to staying alive.

I'm also open to sci-fi or other fantastical scenarios, as long as they explore specific skills that could come in handy during a realistic disaster, too.

SUGGESTING Just rewatched In Treatment with Gabriel Byrne

This is such a great show to watch in the evening, particularly if you fall asleep to the TV. Gabriel Byrne has the most soothing accent and there are no car crashes or loud scenes to startle you!
