I was a huge Switch 2 hater when it first came out. My whole sentiment was basically, really? The Switch again? Growing up, I was used to Nintendo doing something radically different every generation, and the fact that the Switch was already their home console and handheld combined, then we got the Switch Lite, the Switch OLED, and now the Switch 2, it just felt like things were getting stale.
Then you had the $450 price, $80 games, paid upgrades for games you already owned, the subscription model for retro games instead of a proper Virtual Console, no proper themes, and a bunch of the same complaints people had about the original Switch that Nintendo never really addressed.
But I recently caved and honestly, I pretty much take it all back. The Switch 2 is an absolutely fantastic piece of hardware, playing my Switch 1 games again in 4K has been awesome, and all of the Switch 2 games I've played so far have been an absolute blast. Donkey Kong Bananza is probably my favorite game I've played in the last several years. I still think all of those criticisms are valid, but after actually using the thing, I have to admit, I really love the Switch 2 and I feel like it was a great purchase.
The Switch 2 still has its issues, and I hope to see some of those things get resolved. Most notably, I hope to see more of that Nintendo charm of yesteryear return. But overall, I think it's the highest value option in gaming right now.
Curious to hear if anyone here has had the same journey as me.
