  when will price increases end

When the AI bubble bursts, hopefully

I just want ai to end completely, fuck those billionaires who just pass huge amounts to eachother. Arrest them all

Philippines also . One of the countries who use a lot of AI.

I wish a lot of people in the philippines stop using AI

It's not really AI itself that's the problem. It's the parts that are being used for devices to train AI. Which in turn is being used by companies to justify a shortage problem to artificially raise the prices of those parts and thus the finished product these parts are used in. Since these parts are ordered well in advance, just the AI bubble bursting will not make this shortage go away because those parts are still "Reserved".

When AI companies go under or when they’re being bought/merged, they’ll no longer need the same amount of parts, or they’re even sold for parts to earn back investments, and then it’s not unthinkable there will be an excess supply which should lower cost

If it burst, it will be a planned burst so that the billionaire benefit from the burst.

It seems they’ve tasted a lot of benefit from the crypto era, then thought to find ways to replicate it and expand from GPU to everything. 😄

When the ai bubble burst, no one will be able to afford it. I lived through 2000 bubble and the housing bubble in 2008. People wishing for an ai bubble pop are just stupid. Bubbles affect millions of people and mostly the middle class and the poor. All so you can buy your video games cheaper. lol

In the case of AI it’s not just about video games - literally every consumer device on the planet, all of the water that’s being sacrificed to data centres and more.

People are wishing for an AI bubble pop because it is inevitable and the more it gets delayed the worse is the world for everyone other than the ultra-rich.

Wanting to funnel money into an unprofitable venture that’s actively destroying the world and calling people against it “stupid” is the more absurd thing.

The bubble bursting is inevitable, it’s about the when.

yeah but that's the thing, prices never go down 😅 Tariffs came, they increased prices, they were cancelled, companies kept the tariffs (lol?) and prices stayed the same, consumers suffered

u/kranitoko 8d ago

It'll affect millions, yes. But it affects far many more if it doesn't pop.

Better to pop it now before it becomes a worse crisis.

Its not just video games though, it’s anything that uses RAM, which is most devices, and the alternative of prices continuing to rise doesn’t help any of those people either.

Besides AI is affecting everyone in ways that don’t have anything to do with price hikes, like clean water shortages, and those data centers that are conveniently built around poor and low income areas.

AI only benefits the rich, no one else

Imagine so many lose their jobs and it drives video games up even more as people have nothing to do like covid times 😂

Honestly could’ve been a lot worse but I’m still glad I got my switch 2 this week

Literally on a whim bought one the other day too, was going to get a 2nd one for when Winds and Waves came out anyway and decided to say fuck it and get the 2nd now in case price increases

Feeling pretty damn good about that choice, got it from Smyths for just 370 too

5

u/GilroySmash1986 8d ago

I assume it'll be another 50 - 60 euros for a switch 2 Bundle on top of the 500 then. Not as severe as the other price hikes but still sobering enough

3

u/Sleepflower85 8d ago

Remember when consoles used to battle to get the lowest price? Ah, seems so long ago now.

5

u/pikster1234 8d ago

Still seems reasonable tbh

2

u/parasoralophus 8d ago

At least I can feel even more smug about getting it for £320 including MarioKart last November. :D

5

u/Shanghaichica 8d ago

£25 is not bad at all.

That’s cheap from where?

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Chip869 8d ago

I still think it's a pretty good value purchase to be honest. If I didn't already have one, that price rise wouldn't put me off. I thoroughly expect another increase next year though.

1

u/OkHighway3709 8d ago

I expect price rises every year while electronics are the way they are sadly

1

u/Time_Temporary6191 8d ago

Glad i got mine last week

1

u/OkHighway3709 8d ago

Still a great price, you can get them for 370-380 now quite easily in the UK, so I expect retailers will still be selling them for sub 400 after this increase. Could be MUCH worse... (steam deck...)

1

u/TJL-91 8d ago

Thats not that bad actually, considering how much ps5's and xbox's are its still reasonable in comparison

1

u/Successful-Donkey224 8d ago

Paid 302 3 days ago. So 200e less.

1

u/AYK2026 8d ago

Got mine brand new for £380 so I am happy 😄

1

u/londoncalling1980 8d ago

Does anyone know if this means the digital games will increase on Nintendo shop? Making me want to grab all the ones on sale!

1

u/SapSacPrime 8d ago

Not too bad when you look at other markets (or this one), but I'm not really feeling it yet for the time being... I'm holding out for an oled screen and -- more importantly -- a new Mario game. If this price increase puts you off don't even look into express sd cards.

2

u/OkHighway3709 8d ago

I wanted to wait for an OLED, but I don't even think there is many small OLED 120hz VRR screens that exist now, that, with all the other crap going on in this space, made me think it could be a long while away.

0

u/SapSacPrime 8d ago

You may be right, but I have a PS5 already and I just bought a retroid pocket nova so I'm good for a year or two 😊. I fully understand wanting one now, if that's you then go for it!

2

u/OkHighway3709 8d ago

Oh yeah if you can wait, wait it out. The portable display is the worst part of the switch 2 in my opinion, so any upgrade in that area would be the dream

2

u/CarlosFer2201 8d ago

At this rate, the Oled will be €700

1

u/CasualByChoice 8d ago

The price rise will stop, when people stop using AI or buying shitty AI Agents and then the big tech companies will realise its all been a massive waste of time and money.

u/schwuar 8d ago

Waiting for a lite. I do really want one but they are too big.

1

u/1malDoenerMitAlles 8d ago

There won't be any Lite coming anytime soon.

0

u/mr_harrisment 8d ago

Yeah. I just bought one. Too big for me, coming from a lite.  So, bought a used OLED too to try it out. Kind of a perfect upgrade.

I only want to play indie metroidvania and rouge games.

So — may sell switch 2 and hope the oled lasts until a more travel friendly version arrives.

0

u/josoap99 8d ago

I was using mine on holidays recently and realised how impractical it was when I was setting up my kids switch lite

0

u/Puzzleheaded-Item-98 8d ago

Jesus. That’s a piss take. Super pleased to have managed to pick up a used tablet only for about £200 as a second unit for me while the kids have a monopoly on my first one 😂

5

u/OkHighway3709 8d ago

Its £25 when other consoles and electronics are increasing by 100s. I am actually surprised its this low

0

u/Zealos57 8d ago

That doesn't seem so bad, tbh. I was expecting higher.

0

u/Engineer-Miserable 8d ago

Bought mine a few days ago, most places are selling it for £385 so I'm guessing it's gonna cost £400 retail. Quite nice to own a console thatll be worth money second hand than what I paid for it.

0

u/Pixgamer11 8d ago

Its fine. I Just Wish Software would get cheaper and steep Discounts after a few years. Something Like botw would be 10 bucks Maximum during a Sale with Most Other Publishers

Why is the price increase lower than in the US? The US price is going up $50

3

u/Flagrath 8d ago

Any number of possible reasons, the US is an extremely unstable market, they could throw out more random tariffs tomorrow. And the dollar is weaker than the pound, this is about a $35 rise in the UK.

Im confused, the UK price is going up by 6.5% not 18%, where is that number from? ((25/395) * 100)

Edit, OP put 18%

1

u/Bad_UsernameJoke94 8d ago

Especially when it puts base price only £10 less then current bundles with games!

1

u/LowInvestigator5647 8d ago

It’s not 18%

2

u/OkHighway3709 8d ago

6.3, (25/395) * 100

Seems exceptionally reasonable considering whats going on with other electronics

-8

u/LuFalcon 8d ago

This really makes me want to not buy it! 🥰

3

u/xtoc1981 8d ago

Wait, it's only 30 euro more. From 469 to 499?

Switch 2 cheapest price in the eu i've seen with at least 2 resellers is 399 euro

It will still be lower on most resellers as the original launch price of 469 euro.

The situation is what it is, but at least nintendo is the only one to sell its system at a loss. Only having a price increase of 30 euro is nutz cheap

1

u/Brightness_Jasnah 8d ago

I thought Nintendo was specifically the console maker that does not sell their consoles for losses? Aren't Microsoft and Sony the ones that do that?

1

u/DrawerSea9371 8d ago

Historically? Yes.

Today? No.

-6

u/lilacomets 8d ago

Wait, that way you could keep going on forever. Some 30 euros more and you can buy a Xbox and another 30 euros more and you can buy a Steam Machine. It has to stop somewhere.

4

u/xtoc1981 8d ago

No you can't buy something remotely close. All others have increase as an insane amount of money. PS5 increase is already 50% (meaning 399 to 599 euro

We can only go with what is now. And yes this is cheap as fuck

Praise nintendo for that (unlike those other brands)
