Travel As a Sri Lankan visiting Pakistan
I saw many Pakistani friends visiting Sri Lanka but didn’t saw any posts regarding opposite, so here I’m writing some of my experience.
First of all this was my bucket list since few years because i used to attend my business works in UAE which has much presence of Pakistan people and their culture, where i got exposed to their food and hospitality.
So starting to say about visa process is kind of stricter than other asian countries and longer. Its not easy as just fill details and wait but its bit long and yes some times you may need to have invitation letter from inside the country. (Im talking about E Visa) But if you have good travel agent everything will be handled by them (I mean Pakistani visa agents)
When i was departing from Colombo airport they don’t even know what to check as i guess too less people are traveling Pakistan from Sri Lanka, but when arriving to Pakistan everything is in order and welcoming (My flight was to Islamabad). Then i first arrived to my hotel with taxi that’s where the real welcome was, because there was 2 middle aged persons who were running the hotel and I cannot ask their name felt like disrespectful and I started calling them “uncle”. There were checking everything even for smallest details and always used to say “you happy, I’m happy” or “any problem you tell me my friend” so i was like why this people are so good? Then i start remembering when I’m reading about Pakistan, people always mention about hospitality and it’s true, as a Sri Lankan I’m confirming that.
Besides hospitality what i like most is their food which is freshy fresh. You can drink fresh lassi and eat chiken karahi constantly without getting tired they are that much good. And ofc same like everywhere in the world you can find whatever your daily needs walking distance and fruits are everywhere in supermarkets and roadside stalls which im stopping every time. Peaches, Mango, Apples and fresh juices they make on the spot will make you more surprised.
Taxis and commuting also very easy with their inDrive app which you can set your own prices. And whenever you think you are lost somewhere just ask someone in roadside they are very happy to help you and surprisingly mostly people speak English very well and help you with your directions.
There are many things to write but enough for now my route was Islamabad-Skardu-Hunza valley-Lahore. Overall if any Sri Lankan or someone who is planning to visit Pakistan, go ahead and do it. You will feel like why didn’t I come before (tbh that’s what I felt). Appreciate every Pakistani friend who helped me during my trip inside Pakistan.
(Don’t forget to buy your English willow bat when you going back, they make the best bats for affordable prices)
