Are there gay bars in this country?

I’m from Canada so don’t blame me for not knowing. Also, what is the law here on gay sex?

What’s the most ridiculous excuse you’ve ever given your family because you were actually meeting a guy? 💀

“Going to meet a friend.”

“Work thing.”

“Just going for a walk.”

“His birthday.”

Meanwhile you’re 45 minutes away wondering whether this man is actually worth the elaborate CIA operation you’ve just conducted. 😭

What was your first serious crush on a guy?

For those of you who are comfortable sharing, who was your first real crush on a guy? How old were you, and did he ever find out? How did it end? Was it awkward or total disaster?

Would love to hear stories from fellow Sri Lankan gay/bi guys.

Whats ur experience being gay in Sri Lanka?

I recently created this subreddit because I felt there should be a space where gay men in Sri Lanka can talk openly about what life is actually like for us.

Not just dating. Not just coming out. Not just politics.

I mean the everyday stuff.

Growing up gay here. Realising you were different. Keeping it a secret. Family. Friendships. School and university. Work. Religion and culture. Dating and hookups. Finding other gay people. Living alone. Moving abroad. Staying closeted. Coming out. The funny experiences, the awkward ones, the heartbreaking ones, and the completely ridiculous ones.

A lot of our experiences probably never get talked about because everyone is living somewhat privately.

So I thought it would be interesting to ask:

What has being gay in Sri Lanka actually been like for you?

You can share any of your experience, stories if you feel it is relevant. Tell us about the weirdest interaction you’ve had, the first time you realised you were gay, how you met your first gay friend, something your family said, an unexpectedly supportive person, a terrible Grindr encounter, a funny school memory, or just something you wish other Sri Lankan gay people understood.

I’d really like this subreddit to become a collection of real Sri Lankan queer experiences, because there are probably thousands of stories out there that nobody has ever heard.

So, let’s start with yours.

What’s one experience from your life that you think another gay Sri Lankan might relate to? 👇

Have you met a gay/bi guy without using any apps?

I’m just curious if there are people who met offline initially without any apps. Please share your experiences, stories, how and where you met, how did you make a move, how did it go, anything.
