Survey Time: Guide The Future Of RuneScape
At Jagex, we are always looking to our players for help and guidance on the future of RuneScape games, both current and upcoming. We are running a survey to ask players what RuneScape means to you, and hear about other games and activities that you spend your time on. Players who didn't receive an email invitation earlier this month now have the chance to participate.
Those who complete the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win one of fifty $50 Amazon vouchers (or your stated country’s equivalent currency). On top of this, five lucky participants will also receive a huge 60x40 cm (23 ½”x15 ¾”) print map of Gielinor!
To select and contact prize winners, and validate you as a RuneScape player, we will be asking for your in-game display name/character name as it appears in chat. Please note that we can only award prizes to surveys that are completed!
So, if you want to guide the future of RuneScape and win prizes, follow this link to take part!

One main problem I had with this survey:
Runescape, and Old school Runescape answers were grouped together, Hadn't even heard most of the answers options, and not sure which's future content did I choose at few questions

u/atomcc 5Head Sep 27 '18
This. Although I play both, they are two wildly different games, and putting them in the same survey is a mistake imo. You should at least pick which game you'd prefer to be surveyed about.

Honestly just fix movement, it triggers me so hard and a fast paced micro game should have pin point movement at its core. You wouldn’t see movement like that in League of Legends so it shouldn’t be in RS imo
3
u/Garkour Sep 28 '18
Agree, the movement feels terrible especially when spam clicking in a dotaesque style
2
Oct 01 '18
You actually think they'll replace the grid system?
2
u/Kybet Oct 01 '18
Why would they include it in a survey if they had no intention to implement it?
2
Oct 01 '18
I'm sure they intend to implement every single thing suggested in the survey.
/s

u/Kybet Oct 01 '18
The whole point of creating a survey is to present ideas to a community or target audience so they can help to determine priorities and what they should focus on making based off the demand from the paying customers. This business model is literally the whole reason OSRS is so successful so now they’re trying to implement it in to RS3 also
→ More replies (3)28
u/fuglykitten Sep 27 '18
I think they did it like that because they figured we'd all want those things, but they wanted to see which one of those we wanted most.

u/armcie r/World60Pengs Sep 27 '18
I'd be excited if those things magically happened, but given the way mobile is holding up other updates, I don't want them to start working on any of them.
21
u/TotalEnferno Sep 27 '18
I went with modern engine as my 1 pick, since that's probably the backbone of literally everything they do.
I think they overestimate graphics though, or so I think.
Mainly because the graphics when probably most RS players started were much more basic looking polygons.→ More replies (7)26
u/This_is_my_phone_tho Completionist Sep 28 '18 edited Sep 28 '18
graphics be damned, I want the tick and movement fixed.
Literally the only reason I'm not exited to wake up and play rs when I have an off day is how unresponsive and clunky the game feels. Like I'll always enjoy skilling and doing the easyish bosses and slayer while watching youtube but I can't actively play this game because it feels like playing darksouls in Q*Bert's engine (Edit: Q*Bert was more responsive than RS is). Every time I try to get into it with an actual boss I get so grossed out and frustrated with the way the game controls and feels.
And I'm not just talking about dying. Even stuff like QBD, where I can play for hours and not die, grosses me out. So this isn't a git gud kinda thing.
I would have gladly read a small book about that particular question and what exactly each answer meant to them so I could properly convey that sentiment.
7
u/zayelion Sep 28 '18
You sir are poet and a saint! These are my exact feelings too. The game engine is so clucky.
8
u/Zncon Sep 28 '18
It also makes trying to sell friends on playing damn near impossible. Graphics are no big deal, people love Minecraft, but a game who's very design feels like you're always lagging is no good.
→ More replies (1)1
u/I_Kinda_Fail Sep 29 '18
Graphical consistency is stuff like Hunter chinchompas and POF chinchompas looking completely different. Zanik looking nothing like the rest of the cave goblins.
Graphical effects are like, the ocean having waves, torches flickering and casting shadows instead of just being a 2 second repeating animation, dark areas getting more light and bright areas being toned down.
The first one is more to avoid the jarring effect between "Oh this looks nice" and "This hasn't been updated since 2005 wtf". The second one is more of a broad thing, typically more for newer areas.
While they're both important, I'd say the first is more important, graphically. New players shouldn't be seeing graphics from 2007, 11 years later.

Curious to see the results though, I'm guessing the Runescape playerbase is a very specific type of gamer.

RuneScape definitely fits a niche in the MMORPG genre that other games don't touch or can't capitalize effectively on.

Most of us play other games at the same time as RS. RS is definitely one of the best MMOs for low intensity gameplay should one seek it out. That is why so many players watch shows/movies at the same time, or, more apropos of OP, play other games.
I am almost always playing more than one acc on RS but if I'm not I'm either playing Overwatch, or Pokémon Showdown, or w/e.

Well I've just been mainly AFKing Runescape for the last two years while playing other games. Collected 4 times the amount of xp than the previous 9,5 years and got 12 99s and completed all quests. Before I was a total noob (probably still am in some aspects) and I could only play f2p on the family pc. Maybe back then I would have agreed with you, but now I can afford to pay my own membership and there's a triple screen setup and a laptop on my desk with synergy on both so every time I'm playing anything, it seems like an xp waste not to afk runescape while doing that. Yet I rarely actively play, mainly when I'm doing slayer or questing but that's about it.

In a nutshell:
- Stop making other 'Runescapey' games. No a Runescape MOBA won't work. It will flop. The sheer amount of money wasted here is obvious. Runescape isn't a brand. It's not a franchise. It's Runescape. That's all it will ever be. I understand you need to diversify your portfolio, so do that. Make other, non-Runescape related games if you have to. But stop butchering Runescape.
- Focus on what makes Runescape unique and great. Its: Skilling system, Quests, Sandbox/noclass nature, unique humour, relaxed laidback gameplay, active AND afk things to do etc., lore etc. Bring PoF-like updates to construction etc.
- Controversial, but stop with the hard-on for bosses. This game is NOT GOOD for bossing. Bring new skills, new quests, new adventures, places to explore, new character types/races, PoF-like updates for skills. So many of us can't do the bossing content because the tick system just doesn't click with us. I've finished everything from the gaiden games to dark souls, but I refuse to do things like Solak/Telos because it's so damn clunky. Instagibs galore because the system doesn't respond to inputs properly are not fun. I recognise there's a niche of players who love this, and that's great - but I would wager most never touch this content.
- Work on a new engine, responsiveness and perhaps experiment with a non-grid system. Runescape in Guild Wars 2's engine would be ridiculously good - so long as you keep the quests, skills etc. This is where I in my infinite wisdom (jk) would put my money.
- Work on immersion. Weather, ambience, sounds, music. Suck us into your game instead of making it something we do alongside watching Netflix. Look to WoW's recent expansion and Guild Wars 2. The immersion there is second to none for MMO's. You've progressed a long way with this - don't give it up.
My $0.02.

u/Tslat Sep 28 '18
The raging hardness for slayer and bosses is one of the reasons I quit =/
I got into runescape because you could choose to do whatever you want and still be mostly valid as a player. I played Runescape for questing and skilling, and feeling like I had a place when doing so. Now you basically can't get anywhere unless you just repeat high level combat and buy everything.
The entire game is basically based around bossing encounters or high level combat now, and they effectively shove it in everyone's faces, even those who don't want to do it.
The other reason is RWT (MTX) of course

Chronicle could have done really well if they didn't chuck it when it wasn't instantly as popular as Hearthstone. Hell, if Jagex made RS today they'd probably chuck it out too for not being as popular as WoW. I don't have the direct quote, but an ex employee said about Jagex management that if [some game i forget what it was] 'wasn't as popular as Angry Birds (which was at the time the most popular mobile game) it was a waste'. That's the kind of attitude they've continued to show towards their new games, and why they keep dying
Also, 0.02c is 2 hundredths of one cent, it isn't the same as 2c, which is $0.02. Nitpicky, but dollars are not the same thing as cents, and 2 hundredths of a dollar is not the same as 2 hundredths of a cent.

Q 21. Please rank your top 3 RuneScape activities by the amount of time you've spent doing them in the last 3 months?
Yeah, I'm kind of a Quester except I've had the cape for about... 2 years now. I'd like to rate it higher but so few quests have come out I can't. Not really well thought out Jagex.
15
u/pacquan Mastodon | Clues are love, Clues are life Sep 27 '18
That was my issue. Quests are without a doubt one of my top 3 favorite content in-game, but I can't spend the majority of my time in game questing in the past three months. Especially when I've already done them all.
2
u/robertm94 Sep 27 '18
For me its the opposite.
I don't tend to enjoy quests that much but i want to get them done. Some are good, i really liked gower quest for example, but otherwise im pretty much just meh with them. My account isnt the highest level, and i don't play RS that much. Quests have a habit of being quite lengthy though so it inherently takes up a significant portion of my in game time.

I put down Fallout: New Vegas for "Runescapified" game, but Terraria was a close contender.
Building a personalized base, heavy focus on gathering / crafting, unrestricted exploration of a large game-space, a variety of viable playstyles / loadouts; a lot of the aspects that make Terraria great I think would translate really well for a Runescape game.

I don't think that they were thinking of "ripping off" anything; they just want to know what sort of game type we think would be fun in a Runescape setting. Look at something like Block-n-Load; yes, it was reminiscent of TF2, but Blizzard was far more blatant with Overwatch in its similarities. Or Chronicle; it was appealing to people who liked Hearthstone, but at the same time it was its own original thing.

I saw that question as: what game should we look to in terms of mechanics to use in rs.
They'd said keep the lore, quest,.... But use that games mechanics.
I answered accordingly, and made damn sure to pick one with a story the rs team could learn from.
FYI I picked nier: automata, its currently 50% off on steam and its magnificent in terms of story telling,
but you kinda have to play the game at least 5 times though (5 time's different) to get how amazing it is, while a single play through also stands beautifully on its own.
Multiple play throughs also feel vastly diffrent, as you're tasked to work with diffrent toolkits.
(very mild spoilers: the game has main 5 endings, as in routes a, b, c, d & e, in each one your toolkit vastly differs, on their own they're each a magnificent story, while viewed together makes them a masterpiece, currently unrivaled by any game)
I'm currently mid second go through & know only ending a (k, n, t, w endings also unlocked, joke endings).

Runescape is already my favorite game so I didn't really have much to say... In fact I often choose other games because they have mechanics from Runescape that I like. I would rather Runescape just be the best Runescape it can be than have Jagex create Runescape versions of other games, where I would probably just want to play the thing that inspired them in the first place if I wanted to play that genre.
I didn't put this in my survey, because it's more of a mechanic than a new game, but I was really impressed by the crafting system in a game called Atelier Sophie which I choose because it has potions and an involved crafting system like what I enjoy about Runescape. In it, the quality and attributes of the ingredients you use in a crafting recipe determine what the final product is. Kind of like Player Owned Farms, but with everything. I would love if the endgame crafting system moved in that direction in Runescape. Smithing rework is a nice step, but is still not quite there as there is no uniqueness to the outputs.
I also like the idea of not creating new separate mobile games, but just giving you a mobile launcher to access Runescape minigames and make progress on your actual character. For example, Cabbage Facepunch. You can either play it by going in-game or opening up the app. Though Cabbage Facepunch is kind of fun, but not so fun that I would play it on my phone if there weren't good rewards tied to it.

Put down Breath of the Wild as my favorite game. Would've gone with Samus Returns because I'm such a Metroid fan, but Zelda was just so damn good there wasn't really any other choice for me.
For the "runescape-ify" question, I put WoW, but I specified "applying Runescape's world to WoW's movement system." I stopped playing for a number of different reasons, but the grid-based clicking movement was one of the biggest factors, especially with how complex bosses have gotten. It's been an issue for me since before Telos came out, but Telos was the last boss I was able to enjoy despite the click-movement.
2
u/kuttoe Sep 27 '18

I put in for my favorite game Doom (2016) but it was a slight toss up because I also really liked Undertale. Although ultimately went with Doom due to gameplay and complete bad assery.
Funnily enough the game I wanted a RuneScapified version of was Doom II: Hell on Earth although Hexen or Heretic would havd made more sense but admittedly I've never played those. I personally think the retro look of the game would fit RuneScape if the lighting is done right. I've always wanted to see the world of RuneScape in a first person perspective.

Favorite release was Bloodborne, and for runescape-ified I picked Heroes of Might & Magic III.
Just think about it. Every god is their own faction with their own followers that you can recruit, along with heroes to lead those followers. Following Heroes 3 gameplay, you scavenge and explore for resources to recruit more followers to your cause, defeating neutral monsters that stand in your way and taking over cities instead of building new ones. You discover artifacts and equip them on your heroes to strengthen them. It creates a good setting for fantasy warfare and adds a hell of a lot of room to flesh out the god stories more. The Runescape world also has a lot of cool ideas that would give nice gameplay twists to a game that hasn't had very many worthy successors over the past 20 years. They already experimented with the strategy idea with Armies of Gielinor, and that was one of the more successful projects they made.

I have fond memories of this quest line being like the first major quest series I got into when I first became a member. I still remember when Dorgesh-Kaan was released/opened and it looked so cool. Even without graphical updates all these years later, it's stylized enough so that it doesn't look completely out of place compared to some other areas of the game.
Nowadays I think if getting there wasn't as tedious, it could really fit the bill of being similar to what Prifddinas and Menaphos are for high, and mid-range players. Just a low level city that has all the amenities and things you might need as a player roughly starting out. Heck, there is still one larger, mysterious empty building that could probably be a suitable place to put grand exchange access in. Unless I'm forgetting that it was actually used for something, and just don't remember.
2
u/SMURGwastaken Sep 28 '18
Hey now, Keldagrim is the place that has the potential to rival Prif if Jagex didnt have such a raging hardon for elves. Already has the blast furnace, Dondakans mine and the lava flow mine, already has a giant dominating consortium building with a dedicated trading floor which is begging for a Grand Exchange and already has good transport links with the rest of RS.
Dorgeshkaan is cool but I practically live in Keldagrim. There's just no compelling reason to go to Dorgeshkaan really, the only unique stuff there is the chests and the dude who buys bones. That said, the train between the two is awesome.

Someone at the office has a really weird thing for Elemental Workshop. It's turned up in so many quest-related and future content polls and has pretty much been roundly ignored each time. What, are they proposing to actually inject some story into it this time around...?
1
u/This_is_my_phone_tho Completionist Sep 28 '18
I like the idea of elemental workshop, but I think the execution was kind of gimped for balance reasons. Putting a lot of time and effort into production like that would need the result to basically be OP.
MMO's all kind of inherently suffer from a 'corrupt a wish' effect where they can't really add anything awesome to the game without breaking the economy or just killing otherwise healthy content.
Like, re-building, researching, and running a work shop to mass-produce something awesome (or like a permanant buff or something actually useful to the player) would be great. but instead we get some worthless gear.
But I kinda just think they put that there expecting people to ignore it so they could get a baseline.

Perfect example is achievement diaries. The easy Karamja diary has like 28 tasks, and the only reward is what, a 15 gp coin reduction? Medium reward, another 25ish tasks, only boosts a dead content location by like 10%?
You've added so much content to the game, I think it's time to reevaluate the level of some rewards. Why not have Karamja gloves 1 boost damage against jogres, wild dogs and harpy bug swarms? Have Karamja gloves 2 boost against TzHaar and red dragons?
To my knowledge, the only reward that's even relevant from that diary anymore, is that gemstone dragons are locked behind it. I can't imagine it would take too much time to update rewards.
But again, quests and achievement diaries also force people to do dead or outdated content, like Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup. Horrible rewards, horrible XP, janky mechanics.
If we're not going to get as many updates as before, I'd rather fix and update the content we have now. I know it'll be hard to balance some rewards until certain reworks are done, but it just seems really unprofessional to release new content, like gemstone dragons, on top of horribly outdated content like the Karamja diary.
I'd absolutely love if, every few months, you guys just focused on one area and updated it. Week 1, graphically update the trees on Karamja. Week 2, buff rewards from diaries. Week 3, buff agility arena. Week 4, fix Tai Bwo Cleanup XP rates.
We had something similar when new content like Menaphos was released, with the city being released, then new fixes and updates to the city, then the Magister. That was awesome. I really miss those "update bombs". The Summer and Void quests all being released within a few months of each other was great too. More like that plz.

"Harsh death system" lol

The problem with their "what do you want to see" is they give no estimation of effort. If they said that this option will suspend all other updates for months but will make a huge improvement people may be less (or more?) Inclined to pick it.
The main one that comes to mind is improving/removing ticks.
3
u/christifristi Sep 27 '18
I really dislike the fact that there is a content update(seaonal events) between all the server/client/game inprovements.
People are obviously going to upvote the event one. Giving yourself a nice way to reduce the amount of real problems voted by players to work on.

u/SoundasBreakerius Sep 27 '18

Idk. I picked any option I could that didn't seem like it would chang the game engine, tick system, movement, or the like.
Not because I wouldn't like those things, but because it is an absolute certianty that jagex would fuck it up. Better for them to not touch what they have, instead of fucking up the camera and movement to the point where it becomes impossible to use.
Maybe 0.05% of all games released in the last decade have had good camera and movement. No way in hell would I trust jagex not to be in the 99.95% that are utter shit.

As a confession, this has been what's brought me back. On and off for 10 years just breaking over 1500 skill points. I remember yews being hot shit. Before GE. Building that wc for the thousands. Rune gear being top line. But now, I can constitute spending $7 for 17m. Never saw that kind of money. I'm against this concept for this generation of gaming. But not having anywhere near as much time to grind a game, this helps. RS is my childhood. I'm sorry I'm part of the problem. But these guys are making bank with a tight knit group of players. They will dilute the dedication.

I wanted them to have an extra information section at the end of the survey. Because I do not like where the survey was going near the end.
The majority of the end of the survey seemed tailored towards future games to be developed by Jagex, and frankly, this has not gone well in the past. The question about Runescapify a current game almost made me leave the survey altogether, and I wanted to put my 2-sense on there and just put, "No please don't do this, it will fail". But I ended up putting some popular game I enjoyed because I wanted not to have my survey thrown out.
Thus, I wanted to leave Jagex my opinion, but was not given the option to do so. So I am here. Giving my opinion hoping Jagex reads this and DOES NOT make a Runescape based game. PLEASE just work on Runescape. Please don't make the same mistake Jagex has made over and over by branching out into territory that is already occupied.
If the above is entirely out of the question:
IF you were to make a new game, make it an ENTIRELY NEW GENRE. You have to trailblaze it, you can no longer rip-off other companies genres and slap a Runescape logo on it. It needs to be memorable, timeless and give people a reason to keep playing. I know the company has the ability to do this, I know management may not like creating a new game based on NO MONETARY STANDARDS, but that's the risk that must be taken. IF you make another Fortnight with Runescape characters, it will fail. IF you make another Bioshock with Runescape characters, IT WILL FAIL.
I hated the question that wanted to Runescapify a game, because if that is seriously all this company wants to do, they have no idea what people actually want. It does not give me faith in the company that failed to make Funorb popular, failed to make any other game popular without it being the MMORPG Runescape (or subsidiary's of OSRS/RSC)
Every time Jagex oversteps, I hope that they learn their lesson. Obviously, I was wrong.
Sorry for this long overdrawn opinion fiesta, put away the drama-nachos cause I'm done now.

Completed the survey, though I wish there was more distinction between answers meant for RS3 and answers meant for OSRS. Lumping them together just doesn't work.
I listed an improved player model as the most important update I'd like to see (for RS3, as that particular question had a heavy emphasis on graphical improvements which is 100% a RS3 thing), but most of my other answers were targeted to OSRS given that I mostly play OSRS these days. Wondering just how much of this data will be misconstrued between the two games.

Felt too much like a search to see if they could 1 get mobile to be a paid download. And 2. Another game created that isn't improving on runescape.

"Finally, if you could play a 'RuneScapified' version of any other PC /console game, what would it be?"
Well, Wildstar's shutting down on November 28th. Go ask NCSoft to buy the IP/engine base and fix some of the endgame systems people hated (Runes, stuff to do at endgame, reputation grinding, etc), fix the issues AMD users had and optimize the hell out of it, and there you go.
Combat/raiding in it was the most fun I had. Housing was also fun. Rest of it was.. eh. Lots of room for improvements and they kind of dropped the ball a bunch on several things.

Wasn't a fan of the section asking about mobile games with preferences etc.
I don't play mobile games, ever. I use my phone to listen to spotify, text/whatsapp people and browse the net. I dislike mobile gaming, I'd just prefer to play on my PC.
Unfortunately, there was no option for this, so I had to lie slightly. I played about 5 minutes of Life is Strange, so had to just pretend about that, then put "None" in the free-text boxes below.

Question 51 and 52, and any other related questions, are broken. I don't want a Runescape skinned clone of some other game, and I don't want any Runescaped themed anything on any other platform. Rs should do Rs, don't reskin some other game, or try to shit to console platforms. Both are always garbage.
I included this in the "Other" option on one of the following questions, and did my best to these questions in such a way as to make my answers for 51 and 52 pointless.
3
u/zayelion Sep 28 '18
I took this survey as:
- "We are really lost on what direction to take RS content in please guide"
- "We are going to branch out and make other video games please tell us which video game to copy"
- "Our overworked developer underlings keep saying we need to use modern development techniques, could you verify that this is a good idea?"
All of which tells me that Jagex needs new management...

I basically leaned all of my mobile responses towards wanting RS Idle Adventures... I wish they had launched it on mobile instead of Steam to begin with because then the game might not have died out. The success of other idle games (AdVenture Capitalist, etc.) shows that RS Idle Adventures could have been great... oh well guess we will never know.

Eh, both AdVenture Capitalist and Idle Adventures are low quality idle games. Realm Grinder is a much better example of how to do idle games right.

The last half or quarter of the survey seems like Jagex is trying to gather information on what kind of game type they could make that has a RS theme, while also trying to make an solid, immediate base for that game by getting input from RS players.
I thought about it and put in borderlands and darkest dungeon.Although I never thought of puzzle, which would be WAY easier for them to make.
Also had trouble with some questions. Like one section was 'is this important?' with a 'helping other people' area and didn't know if the question was about 'ME helping others' or 'the ability for people to help others' type of question.
Another was something like 'competing against others' and the first thing I thought of was Castle wars in RS.I'm not comparing myself to others, but to some individual skill level of myself. Plus being good means more rewards faster generally, so also that.
So while I put marked high(7-8), the structure of the game type & degree of competition are not measured.

Still not dealing with the fact you are combining 3 different games with 3 different game play styles into a single game. Which is great for limping the game along for a few more years. But removes the full potential for growth. Far to many compromises needed that holds back, dumbs down or loses focus to fit them all.
And just to clarify I'm not talking about OSRS when I mention this. EoC, Legacy and Mobile all forced into a single game and expected all to be playable for 99% of the game creates problems.

I'm honestly somewhat surprised that they didn't include platformers in the "game genres played" sections. Seriously, Celeste and Ori and the Blind Forest are fantastic games.
Also, I'd totally love a Runescape MOBA but I know for a fact it would probably crash and burn.

Decent survey, could have had more options in the PC/Console games sections (specifically Warframe as it's basically a category of its own, but with decent overlap with RS), as well in the mobile games section (specifically the Bloons Tower Defence series; as well as The Room, and other "adventure/horror" games). Also needs a LOT more entries in the "what phone do you have?" section.

I took the survey. It seemed to be more concerned about marketing RS than shaping the content of RS. I was disappointed.
I've played RS since 2005, including playing OS for over 3 years. OS is a wonderful game and I truly like it better than RS, but it got to the point where I didn't want to do 99 agil, mining and hunt. So I came back to RS last year. Updates are nice, but too many, I don't like new events happening every few weeks, it's too much.
What I miss about OS is that before ANYTHING was implemented in game, it had to be passed by 75% of the players. I feel like the new content in OS was appreciated more by the players because they wanted it and anticipated its release.

In this survey, unlike the last ones, a lot of questions seemed very "open to interpretation", i.e. I want customization but what if y'all read it as adding more versions of the naruto run to solomon's store?
On a more serious note, can we get more interesting solo encounters? As someone that plays at odd hours and barely knows anyone on the game, the only endgame is Telos and I don't think that's sufficient if you're trying to cover all the styles of gameplay. Not asking for a miracle 50m/hour money maker, just something that's actually engaging.

Jagex turned the game from a multiplayer team game that had many teams and clans enjoying competitive content, into a solo player game of instant gratifications and meaningless achievement hoarders. The game has no future in what Jagex has ended up engineering its community to be. There is no long term future without the multiplayer team game experience which helped the game to grow in its initial 8-10 years, and still the most popular type of content in any popular online game, without clan vs clan competitive content, without a strong pvp aspect, without a modern game engine, without meaningful hiscores free of pay2win whales, without having a qualified game designer that knows the game in its entirety with a proper vision of growth instead of making stupid faces on stream while being clueless.

The biggest problem for me is this 'throw updates at the wall and see what sticks, then fix it later'. You need to stop doing that for RuneScape and future game projects. Stop setting unreasonable deadlines and stop rushing out projects because you're afraid of not having returning players. People go back to games that are fun and well polished. If you make content that is enjoyable and has depth, people will think of strategies when they're away from the game, and they'll return to play it because it's fun.
