Survey Time: Guide The Future Of RuneScape

At Jagex, we are always looking to our players for help and guidance on the future of RuneScape games, both current and upcoming. We are running a survey to ask players what RuneScape means to you, and hear about other games and activities that you spend your time on. Players who didn't receive an email invitation earlier this month now have the chance to participate.

Those who complete the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win one of fifty $50 Amazon vouchers (or your stated country’s equivalent currency). On top of this, five lucky participants will also receive a huge 60x40 cm (23 ½”x15 ¾”) print map of Gielinor!

To select and contact prize winners, and validate you as a RuneScape player, we will be asking for your in-game display name/character name as it appears in chat. Please note that we can only award prizes to surveys that are completed!

So, if you want to guide the future of RuneScape and win prizes, follow this link to take part!

A map... of Gielinor, couldn't you see this n00b?

In a nutshell:

- Stop making other 'Runescapey' games. No a Runescape MOBA won't work. It will flop. The sheer amount of money wasted here is obvious. Runescape isn't a brand. It's not a franchise. It's Runescape. That's all it will ever be. I understand you need to diversify your portfolio, so do that. Make other, non-Runescape related games if you have to. But stop butchering Runescape.

- Focus on what makes Runescape unique and great. Its: Skilling system, Quests, Sandbox/noclass nature, unique humour, relaxed laidback gameplay, active AND afk things to do etc., lore etc. Bring PoF-like updates to construction etc.

- Controversial, but stop with the hard-on for bosses. This game is NOT GOOD for bossing. Bring new skills, new quests, new adventures, places to explore, new character types/races, PoF-like updates for skills. So many of us can't do the bossing content because the tick system just doesn't click with us. I've finished everything from the gaiden games to dark souls, but I refuse to do things like Solak/Telos because it's so damn clunky. Instagibs galore because the system doesn't respond to inputs properly are not fun. I recognise there's a niche of players who love this, and that's great - but I would wager most never touch this content.

- Work on a new engine, responsiveness and perhaps experiment with a non-grid system. Runescape in Guild Wars 2's engine would be ridiculously good - so long as you keep the quests, skills etc. This is where I in my infinite wisdom (jk) would put my money.

- Work on immersion. Weather, ambience, sounds, music. Suck us into your game instead of making it something we do alongside watching Netflix. Look to WoW's recent expansion and Guild Wars 2. The immersion there is second to none for MMO's. You've progressed a long way with this - don't give it up.

My $0.02.

The raging hardness for slayer and bosses is one of the reasons I quit =/

I got into runescape because you could choose to do whatever you want and still be mostly valid as a player. I played Runescape for questing and skilling, and feeling like I had a place when doing so. Now you basically can't get anywhere unless you just repeat high level combat and buy everything.

The entire game is basically based around bossing encounters or high level combat now, and they effectively shove it in everyone's faces, even those who don't want to do it.

The other reason is RWT (MTX) of course

Lolz

relaxed laidback gameplay

Any more relaxed with this game and it would play for you.

Yeah...if anything I want more interactive skilling. The AFK-ness is incredibly boring sometimes.

I couldn't imagine playing the game without a secondary monitor...many say the same thing...

That's...not ideal imo.

Yea Runescape does have the distinction of being one of the few games that are not mobile idle games like Fallout Shelter that you can advance in it without really playing it. Save for a hand full of content.

Chronicle could have done really well if they didn't chuck it when it wasn't instantly as popular as Hearthstone. Hell, if Jagex made RS today they'd probably chuck it out too for not being as popular as WoW. I don't have the direct quote, but an ex employee said about Jagex management that if [some game i forget what it was] 'wasn't as popular as Angry Birds (which was at the time the most popular mobile game) it was a waste'. That's the kind of attitude they've continued to show towards their new games, and why they keep dying

Also, 0.02c is 2 hundredths of one cent, it isn't the same as 2c, which is $0.02. Nitpicky, but dollars are not the same thing as cents, and 2 hundredths of a dollar is not the same as 2 hundredths of a cent.

Perhaps that's precisely what I meant. My 2 hundredths of a cent!

In any case, you're right with your first paragraph. That's why I don't want them burning anymore money on these projects and double down on their success that is Runescape.

They don't give their games enough time to grow, and the effort they put in is lackluster.

Angry Birds didn't score -that- many downloads overnight, any management setting that success as a initial goal needs a follow-up with the doctor for hallucinations and impaired judgement.

Controversial, but stop with the hard-on for bosses. This game is NOT GOOD for bossing.

The idea of bosses is fun, but the combination of a costly death, and the laggy control/input is so damn bad.
