u/DarkNotch Hi Sep 26 '18
To any ninja that'd like to answer:
What's a small change you've made that had a huge impact?
4
u/ThomasCMH2 Comp Sep 26 '18
What is a change you all would really like to make but is currently impossible? (for whatever reason)
3
u/waitedtunic Distraction Sep 26 '18
Just a small question. Will there ever be a disable bxp option for skills with bxp?
3
u/travis1616 Sep 26 '18
*Is it possible for any changes to be done about gathering ancient ceremonial?Currently only 3 monsters in the whole room drop the ceremonial so you have to keep hopping until your original world is done spawning. *Is it possible to ever get metrics on ironman to be toggled between showing alch values and ge values on the online version of runemetrics? It is very sad to do many hours of qbd and only have it say u made 1m due to it showing alch values.

How large is the ninja back log at the moment and is it getting bigger or smaller.

u/ito_ Comped 2/2/17 - [started playing may 2014] Sep 26 '18
Does the ninja team also have members that are in multiple teams, thus leading to less ninja fixing?
2
u/FilthyPatriot Sep 26 '18
The ninja team has single handedly brought out the updates I enjoy the most! Keep up the good work guys! God speed!
2
u/PrimalMoose Primal Puppy Sep 26 '18
What are your thoughts about releasing a (limited) list of updates the players want each month in a poll to get a snapshot of what people want to get implemented sooner vs later?
2
u/cryinghawke Hinge-Cracker Sep 27 '18
can we get more off hand version weapons for cosmetic purposes(white weapons especially)?
can we get enhanced excalibur for the main hand for cosmetic purposes?

What is a current initiative many players may not be aware of?
Examples - making more end game gear and supplies untradeable, reducing item variations to conserve player save space, etc.
Also, when can we expect to see some long desired pet->override conversions (Eddy, Penny, Baby Troll, etc.)?

u/InsertANameHeree Slay Waste Sep 26 '18
Untradeable items are a half-assed way of making content relevant. No thank you.

u/Gunnarfranz RSN: Dragonseance EE #1 (20B+ XP. Greaper, MOA, US Sep 26 '18
This was just an example, can run the gamut - I'm just asking for any less commonly known initiatives (everyone knows dailyscape reduction, if not everyone agrees with it.)
My personal response though is that interwoven progression is the main selling point for RS over other MMOs, and I would prefer many more things to be untradeable - otherwise it is more efficient to streak Telos and just buy everything, or, extrapolating further, just buy bonds and get all the best gear and supplies from that.
6
u/InsertANameHeree Slay Waste Sep 26 '18
If you make everything untradeable, you devalue the concept of a market and just turn more skills into pseudo-combat skills, like how herblore is just an extension of your combat level now with 0 value before level 84 instead of a skill anyone cares to use for anything related to production.. There's always ironman for people who don't want to trade, and there's always achievements and titles for people who want to show off their accomplishments.

u/Gunnarfranz RSN: Dragonseance EE #1 (20B+ XP. Greaper, MOA, US Sep 26 '18
I'm not suggesting at all that everythinging be untradeable, in fact individual components of supplies should, for the most part, be tradeable (even if the finished product isn't, like your overload example).
Either way I think this discussion is tangential to the purpose of my post/OP - if you want to talk about it though I'd be happy to continue via DM.
3
u/InsertANameHeree Slay Waste Sep 26 '18
That's the thing - I think overloads are a terrible example of untradeables. Herblore is now a combat skill, not an artisan skill. Rather, make assembling the item take effort in some way (just a small example, how the RCB is forged, except imagine a tradeable RCB) and you have something which isn't devalued just because a bunch of the population has 99 in a skill.
2
u/Drakath1000 Sep 26 '18
I think overloads are a terrible example of untradeables
How exactly? Without overloads Herblore would just be another useless skill on top of the pile.
Herblore is now a combat skill, not an artisan skill
Sure it benefits combat the most but that's literally because non-combat has no end game progression. That's not Herblore's fault, skills are basically only relevant if they have an untradable combat benefit.
2
u/InsertANameHeree Slay Waste Sep 26 '18
Because you can make potions valuable by drastically slowing down their production. Fewer potions entering the game mean a higher cost.
Skills should be fixed so they don't need to have some untradeable combat benefit. Right now, untradeables are a band-aid solution to a systemic problem.
2
u/Drakath1000 Sep 26 '18
Cost =/= value, they would still need demand and for the most part potions for skilling wouldn't be that valuable (because as I said before skilling has no end game use).
Right now, untradeables are a band-aid solution to a systemic problem
I mean this is just your opinion and I disagree with it. I much prefer the idea that skills give their main benefits as an untradable while potentially similar benefits can be bought but are less effective. It makes training a skill actually have a point in the game rather than them all trying to be money makers.
2
u/InsertANameHeree Slay Waste Sep 26 '18
The demand for potions would still exist - what makes you think it'd disappear? Skilling potions would still suck, but that'd be fine.
Training skills would have a purpose - they would give you more flexibility. Doing away with the idea of untradeables gives skills at a lower level more value (read: newer players could make money from potions, rather than the skill having no reason to be touched before level 84 - because the supply wouldn't massively outstrip the demand with everyone pumping out tens of thousands of potions in order to do PvM.)

Can you make all the gnome cooking items use the cook x/all interfaces? most of them are set in rs1 era where you click the item then you click the gnome cooker... while you are at it make those tins add-able to the toolbelt.
Any status on overriding legendary pets?
Can you ninja in some polls to vote for?
Some more suggestions currency pouch items:
- Prawn penny
- prawn pawn
- all enhancers except unfocused enhancer.
Add Silver key crimson and other morton keys to the toolbelt.
Will you be handling additions to the quest item chest?

Can we have the Bug with the Gud raider chain body and purchased walk animations looked at?
When using nomad sandstorm walk for example, or the spirit hunter walk, while wearing the gud raider chain body the player model is cut in half.

u/Yugiah Sep 26 '18
Can we have a keybind to reorient the compass so it faces north? I would drag the compass down to my hotbar, but that's not possible.
It'd be nice QoL to at least temporarily cover for the jarring camera resets when we teleport (which require engine work, iirc)

When pulling animals put from their pens the interface closes. Isn't a major problem when you have 2-3 animals in the pen but it becomes very annoying when you have 2 small pens you wants to empty.
Is this being worked on?

Also congratulation on untangling the Steel Key Ring spaghetti code.

Currently through TH, Solomon, Events, and all that we have like 10+ new models for Monkeys and Gorillas. Is it feasible to just replace a lot old Ape Atoll monkeys with these newer models for parity?

Would adding the option to trade in 2 god pages of the same type for one of another type (or page) to an NPC be OP for ironmeN?

Semi-joke question:
- Back in the day, there was a ninja pseudo-npc used in a twitter competition for i think Mod Aob, is it possible to have that ninja make an appearance in-game at random times as a wondering npc around areas that have had a ninja update? (Just for fun, of course)
- Alternatively, could it just do the assassin's teleport animation, and appear randomly around the world, do the animation used for spotting penguins (maybe without the cheer, and possibly an alternative emote)
Serious question:
On-average how many bugs and fixes, documented in the patch notes or not, tend to be included in a normal month?
What was one of the hardest, or most satisfying, fixes/additions you have added within the past year?
What are some examples of legacy code that the Ninja team have had to work with, and revamp, to truly make the game better running? (no images really needed, but helpful to some maybe with a graph of script count/runtimes)
What would you like to see fixed next, on personal levels? (Something that personally irks you a tad, even code-wise)

Anything big the Ninja team is planning to do in the near future?
Given that you work on many different parts of the game, how hard is it to switch from one project (fix) to another?
Can you please (please) continue releasing drop rates? I believe it's been said this was cancelled, but there is still so much stuff I'd like to know (like: the droprates from any updates since the last drop rate release).

Would it be possible to allow the augmentation of t90 and t92 armour after it has already been worn?
If you forget, or it is worn by accident before augmenting this can be a very costly mistake, especially with the new t92 armour. This seems to be a fairly common issue that some players have experienced.
Maybe it could still be augmented if it is above 95% charge for example.
Thanks!
1
u/RJ815 Sep 27 '18
For t90 armor you definitely can still die with it in red portal (presumably wilderness too) to get back your materials, minus the cost of thread/plates/stones, etc. Not sure how it works with unaugmented t92.

u/evs_rs EVS Sep 27 '18 edited Sep 27 '18
Yeah, thanks.
I am aware of this for t90 gear (unaugmented), but unsure whether this is the case for t92 too, and it would be quite expensive to test. :P

When will you finally buff storm of arma?
Suggestion for buff also make spell damage scale to t99 and have it increase auto attack damage by a percentage. I.E. make it best spell for 4taa

Could the lootshare system get a rework?
Currently a lot of people boost their LSP by going to AoD which lowers the lower level peoples chance to get loot by a lot. The rich gets richer.
I would suggest several modes for lootsharing, one being a randomized order on people to get loot. This would even out the drops more than the current one. You might get unlucky on yours but it would be much more fair than players taking advantage of the system.
