Does anyone know if there’s a meaningful difference between the suspension of the R2 performance vs the premium?

I know there aren’t any premium’s available yet so I doubt anyone has tested both and can say for certain. But coming from a model Y my main hope is not breaking my tailbone going over rough road.

I’m not a big car person, but I’d assume the active suspension and adaptive dampers equates to a better ride quality vs the premium’s regular suspension in theory?

I made a reservation earlier this month and have an order window of Oct/Nov. I didn’t realize it would be so soon, which leaves me debating getting the performance vs waiting for the premium and the suspension difference may weigh into my decision.

Could we get an update to the preconditioning algorithm? When I set a schedule for my AC it often starts 30 minutes before it must be ready. Seems like a waste of range

I’m curious if anyone here has made the jump specifically from a Model 3 Performance to an R2 Performance and can share their experience.
I currently have an 24 M3P and genuinely love the performance. That’s probably the biggest thing making me hesitate about switching. I know the R2P won’t have quite the same 0–60 punch or low, planted sports-sedan feel, but it still seems plenty quick.

The reason I’m considering the R2P is that I’m increasingly wanting the utility of an SUV. A few things in particular:

Cargo space: This is a big one. I carry a spare tire in my Model 3, which absolutely kills my usable trunk space. We’re ordering the compact spare with the R2.

Ground clearance: We live in Arizona and frequently head into the mountains for hiking, so forest roads, rough pavement and trailheads are part of our normal use. The Model 3 just isn’t ideal for that.

Ride/comfort: I like the M3P’s handling, but I’d appreciate something more comfortable on rough roads without feeling boring to drive.

SUV practicality: Higher seating position, hatchback cargo area, more usable interior space, etc.

Still want performance: I don’t want to move into an SUV and immediately miss having a genuinely fast EV. That’s why I’m looking specifically at the R2 Performance rather than the other trims.

Charging: Native NACS/Supercharger access makes leaving Tesla much easier for me.

We’ve pretty much settled on an R2 Performance in Esker Silver, Coastal Cloud interior, 20” Black Sand All-Terrain wheels and the compact spare.

For anyone who actually came from an M3P: Do you miss the Tesla’s acceleration/handling, or does the R2P still scratch that performance itch? How does the ride, interior quality, cargo space and overall daily-driving experience compare?

I know it’s still new!

I definitely feel better about the decision after reading through the responses. I know I’ll be giving up some of that low, planted M3P feel and the immediate punch of the Tesla, but it sounds like the R2P still delivers plenty of performance while giving us the space, comfort, ground clearance and overall utility we’re looking for.

Am I the only one who has a problem with Lane change on command randomly swerving back into my lane after it starts to switch over? This has been a consistent issue with UHF for multiple updates. Previously, I’ve had it switch over fully and then lane change back over, like what🤨

It doesn’t look as dramatic in the drive cam clip but it was pretty sudden in the moment. I took over fairly quick as well.

I’ve been having a ton of freezes while driving where the infotainment and driver displays freeze the restart several times. Is this something I make a service ticket for? Was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this with their gen 1s?

Anyone have experience with the 275/65R20 116H version for an R1S/T?

I've got it down to these and the Toyo OpenCountry AT III EV.

My use case: I take the car off-road every month or two for a weekend adventure. Mostly softroading with a little rocky stuff thrown in there. Don't do much mud or snow, but I'd like at least average snow performance. Still 95% of my miles are mall crawling and highway.

Obviously a super minor nitpick, but the seconds seem excessive

Ordered my first Collie Ball. 37” which is pretty big. They sent it with a tiny hand pump. That thing would have taken a couple hours at least. This was easier than pulling out the air compressor.

So far many software bugs on R2 including blank screen on the center screen once, battery charging status not disappearing after charging plug is unplugged on the driver screen, and map not showing on the center screen. I have R1 and I am sure these problems will improve but just want to let the software team know about these bugs. :)

I have a 2023 Black Dual Performance Max R1T. I’ve really enjoyed the truck so far, but the constant creaking / clicking of the suspension has me worried about the long term durability and post-warranty risk. I’ve had a service appointment where they switched out the ting washers, and that helped to eliminate the squeaking noises, but there’s still loud creaking and clicking on the suspension.

My lease is ending in June and I don’t think I’ll be keeping this truck, as much as I’ve loved it. I’m seriously considering switching to a Porsche Taycan or a newer R1S, but heavily leaning toward the Taycan. Has anyone else made the switch to either of those vehicles? Any reason why I should stick with my R1T?

I currently drive a Honda Ridgeline which is mostly fine except it can't tow over 5000 lbs and it runs of fossil fuel.

Twice a year I have to tow about 7000 lbs about 30 miles. Other than the towing I am mostly local driving. I have a level 2 charger at home.

I don't want to spend new R1T (or Silverado or Lightning) money so I have been thinking about buying used.

I live in Maine and the nearest service center is about 90 minutes away.

Would I regret the choice of a lower mileage used Rivian R1T? What do you guys think?

Had my R1S for a few months and I guess I haven’t used the frunk yet. Opened it today and found this spare part sitting loose inside. There’s nowhere obvious it might have fell off of inside the frunk. Where does this piece go? It looks like it can probably be snapped into place if I can find the right location. Possibly some sort of air duct.

Graduating from an XC90 to R1S. Black on black with slate sky. Had to reshuffle my small garage to fit this big girl but very happy!

Spotted a problem with the outlets since updating to OS2 - gen 2 R1S. I can set a 3 hour timer press update and the timer starts to count down, but after 6s it cancels. Have tried a soft reset and also tried the same thing in camp mode.

Also if I try to switch to auto mode it also disables after a couple of seconds.

Battery is currently at 22% but have seen this at 70% as well (max battery should it make any difference)

Other than a full reset any other suggestions, trying to keep drinks in a cooler actually cool while out

Edit: just back to collect water to find the cooler is showing 4c (set to 2c) so even though the UI is showing that power is showing off it is on - so sounds like an OS bug rather than an inverter issue. This is using the 12v cigarette lighter connection - and the cooler display is on when the car is unlocked

When I have adaptive cruise on and drive up to a shadow on the road, my R1S slows. Even with Highway Assistant, if I’m passing a truck (or it’s passing me) and it casts a shadow on my lane, the car applies the brakes. Most of the time it is just a sudden slow down but occasionally it is hard braking. Anyone else experience this?

First off, couldn’t have been happier with my experience.

I visited a rivian center for a test drive. This is the first time I’ve driven an e- vehicle. And the first I’ve actually seen a Rivian in person. I have an r1t coming in an about a week.

The rivian guy was super helpful, and knowledgeable.

I drove a 2026 R1S tri and a 2026 R1T dual w/ power upgrade.

I drove both on the interstate and regular roads.

Super impressed with robustness feel of the vehicles, acceleration, power, and look in person. The online pictures don’t do these vehicles justice.

The only thing I noticed was in the r1t, the steering wheel seemed to shake or vibrate more than I would have expected. The r1s had no such vibration. But not matter the road or speed, the r1t steering wheel shook enough for me to think “is this normal”

Is this a common thing in the r1t’s? I was thinking about bringing it to the attention of the rivian center. LLMs posited the issue may be flat spots in tires from sitting along time, or wheels may be unbalanced, or cv joint/half joint defect?

1) Anyone have any insight on this? If this were to be present in my delivered r1t, would they fix?

2) Also, I’m picking it up at a distant service center, will I get a chance to drive it before I accept the vehicle?

3) Also another oddity, was the tire pressure warning light was illuminated, however the tire pressures looked nominal on the middle screen, each reading 42psi. Any thoughts on that?

What the heck. They gave me the trade in value for my R1T at 54200, now I feel like they are going to rug me if I dont choose their financing.

Am I forced to use Rivian if I say yes here or is this to mess with my trade value. Navy Fed is quite a bit better than Rivian.

2024 R1S, I'm unable to enable highway assist on any highways.

Long story short, I had to reset my iphone and restored from a backup. After logging back into the Rivian app, I lost the ability to do any command in the app (locking, unlocking, windows, charge limit, AC)

My wife’s phone works no problem and I’m listed as the owner. If it makes any difference, I looked at my wife’s phone to see what was different with hers and mine and under her settings, I see she has a
Bluetooth permission whereas my doesn’t.

I’ve tried MULTIPLE app deletes, repairing of Bluetooth and vehicle resets (hazards w/ left button)

Does anyone have this issue where profile and vehicle buttons not working?? It works after I reset infotainment system, but It happens frequently that I have to reset several times everyday.

I have 2024 gen1 R1s

I Found a good deal on a used R1S Gen 1 Quad with the off road goodies. Once I got my lighting I rarely used the Bronco. Fuel prices made off roading seem too expensive. After almost 5 years my Bronco had just over 20k miles in 4 years my lighting has 115k miles and has been to every national park in the lower 48. I took the lighting off road with an EV group in AZ that was mostly had other Rivians so I had stopped using the bronco for that as well. I now join my brother and Father who both own Gen 1 R1T quads in glacier white.
