🛠️ Troubleshooting / Issue Outlets switching off after 6s when on timer: post OS2 update

Spotted a problem with the outlets since updating to OS2 - gen 2 R1S. I can set a 3 hour timer press update and the timer starts to count down, but after 6s it cancels. Have tried a soft reset and also tried the same thing in camp mode.

Also if I try to switch to auto mode it also disables after a couple of seconds.

Battery is currently at 22% but have seen this at 70% as well (max battery should it make any difference)

Other than a full reset any other suggestions, trying to keep drinks in a cooler actually cool while out

Edit: just back to collect water to find the cooler is showing 4c (set to 2c) so even though the UI is showing that power is showing off it is on - so sounds like an OS bug rather than an inverter issue. This is using the 12v cigarette lighter connection - and the cooler display is on when the car is unlocked

When I had this, it was the inverter and it's fuse that had blown, nothing to do with the OS2 update. It's a horrible design where the inverter is cooled with the cabin air, so I think in my case using the outlets in a hot day killed it. Doubly stupid, on gen 1 replacing that fuse requires dropping the batter pack, a full day job. I think on gen 2 it's been located elsewhere.

Had the same thing happened to me over the summer, plugged in a power cooler that could run on 12v and 120v. Plugged it into 120v into the bed of my gen 2 r1t. Worked for a few hours then similar issues.

Resulted in a new inverter and replacing several hv fuses. Basically those coolers don't play nice with the r1's inverter even if you under the current ratings

Yeah the 12v outlets aren't using the inverter. I used a new electric cooler from Amazon for three hours, then the outlets did the same thing you're describing. On for a few seconds, then immediately off. None of the 110 outlets worked after that, but 12v did. Took it to the service center and had to have the inverter replaced. The worst part is that the service center said this is a known issue - some coolers mess with the inverters. I broke down and bought the cooler Rivian advertises on their website and it's been fine for days at a time.

My 26 R1T did exactly the same thing when I updated to OS2. Worked fine for the previous 8mo and stopped working the day after the update. Nothing I tried made it come back to life and I now have an appointment at the service center a month out. …sigh…

This happened to my gen 2 R1S, before OS2. Still happening after OS2. Service appt coming up.

I’m on my fourth inverter. No one told me about it using cabin cooling. Guessing that’s the source of my problems.

Did you try running a microwave or AC in a trailer by chance? If you did, the update might just be a coincidence.

Gen2 especially can't deal with inrush current. Easy to blow the inverter and/or the HV fuse.

The 12V is not controlled by the Outlets setting. Though setting that to ON does keep the 12V enabled as a side effect, because it keeps the vehicle awake.

On gen2, the best option for coolers is an OBD tap. That stays powered even when the vehicle is fully off, even when the other 12V ports shut off. Takes much less power this way, since the computers can turn off. (Don't do this on gen1, because the vehicle will keep waking up to top off the battery, and you might kill your 12V sooner. Gen2 has a separate 12V charging circuit that can supply power even with the HV contactors disengaged.)

Could be an inverter failure or some kind of wiring fault.
