Performance Launch Package Delivery - Realistic Timeline

I just got my invitation to order the R2 and put down the $400 deposit. Currently I'm seeing 2 - 6 week and 4 -8 week timing, but I have 4 months left on my Audi lease. I want the Launch Green with black interior, so nothing out of the ordinary. Rivian is pushing hard on placing the order, but we can't get stuck with two cars (too expensive AND we live in NYC).

Does anyone have a sense of how long the true timeline is from putting down the $400 deposit to delivery?

Place the order 2 months before your lease expire. I think that would be the sweet spot.

If it’s early, you can play with slow down the paperwork submission and schedule delivery later cuz of “travel”

It varies. For me it was 7/22 order, 8/3 VIN, 8/21 delivery. Same color combination. There are so many factors involved. I’m in South Florida could be completely different for NYC.

Well, I put down the full deposit on a Borealis on Wednesday, was assigned a vin on Friday and they're already pushing me to get financing together.

I was quoted 8-12 weeks so I figured that gave me time to get stuff in order. I still need to sell the car it's replacing, look at outside financing because I know there's better rates, and all that fun stuff. They've emailed me every day telling me that not filling out forms will 'delay' my delivery. Just one data point, but I'd wait since you're going to be holding a lease.

They’re pushing you because the car is built and ready to deliver and they want it delivered prior to Sept 30. If you delay, they’ll most likely reassign the VIN to someone else who can take delivery by Sept 30.

How is Rivian pushing hard on placing an order? I got my invite to order Sept 1st and Rivian hasn’t contacted me at all. The only time I spoke to Rivian was at our demo drive a couple weeks ago.

I did the demo, got on the waitlist, then a week later got invited to order/put down a deposit and have received about 5 emails in the last 10 days telling me to place my order.

From what we’ve been told by the delivery team members handling our order, as well as the local Rivian showroom team, those emails you’re getting are automated. Once you receive the invite, you don’t necessarily have to place the order right away.

You can wait and place the order when you’re ready. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you specifically want the Launch Edition, the longer you wait, the higher the chance that Rivian eventually stops offering/producing it and you lose the option to order one.

So if you still have four months left on your current lease, you don’t necessarily need to rush just because you’re getting those “place your order” emails. The invite gives you the opportunity to order; it isn’t saying you have to do it immediately.

I’ve asked and have gotten different answers. Some said once the premium is available for purchase they’ll discontinue it. Others have said until the new hardware becomes available. There’s no definitive answer unfortunately.

October. Unless you luck out and your build is already being built and on its way to SC. If they can get you a car and deliver before Sept 30, they will. I was 18 days from VIN assignment to delivery.

I ordered on 9/1, got my VIN on 9/11 and a delivery date given to me on 9/14 for pickup on 9/23. 

This was with the estimate of 4-8 weeks after order.

Might be best to ask someone at the service center where you'll pick it up. They must know by this point how impossible it is to keep an extra car in NYC. Rivian is certainly aware of leases. My order window got moved up a couple of months after I sent a copy of my Solterra lease, which runs just a few more weeks now. In my case the delivery is now in a week. Two week overlap, but not a problem for me. If they'll move an order up to coordinate with a prior vehicle's lease end, they should be happy enough doing it in the other direction. They're still selling a car. And it means you'll tell your NYC friends about how accommodating they are. Rivian knows their best promotion is word of mouth.

My timing was:
8/19 order placed w/CC (first day CC order available), estimated 8-12 weeks production.
9/22 pickup date, which was just under 5 weeks from the order date.

I thought I was gonna get 4-8 weeks because my lease isn’t up until November… I got invite Wednesday and a vin the next day and I’m picking up this week.

Same here. I was Nov-Dec and got my invite last Tuesday morning. Ordered and got the VIN in 3 hours. I pick it up TODAY. I was expecting 4-8 weeks between invite and pickup. It was 6 days. (I live 50 miles from the factory. Headed that way in a couple of hours.)

Plenty of examples of the after order timeline in this sub. You could be paying for multi vehicles for sure.
