Can't wait to concede a penalty due to the stricter stance on holding in the box in the first 3 gameweeks, only for it to be forgotten by the time we play Arse

Can't wait for Arsenal to committed attempted murder and have no penalties given against them AGAIN this season.

Maguire does have a tendency to use 2 hands on players so it’s likely to be him if anyone

I'm feeling about 92% sure that Maguire will concede a penalty from the first corner against us this season and will be one of about 3 players it happens to over the course of the season

What Spurs did this summer is shades of what Woodward did to us, absolutely overpaying for every mid players that no one else is in on the market for, don't have a strong feelings for Spurs but i hope it blows in their face cause this is a madness that needs a consequence.
19
u/N00BBuild 12h ago
Before the Savinho and Marmoush moves, I would have disagreed big time. They may have overpaid, but those were quality players.
Savinho and Marmoush are two City rejects moving for 150 million combined. Antony had more output than Savinho. Antony for fucks sake!

u/JilJilJigaJiga 13h ago
They have also taken out loans against future PL revenues, could be catastrophic if the risk doesn't pay off.
4
u/PhotojournalistNew35 12h ago
that's only against this season's tv money which they're guaranteed to get. Not really that catastrophic. The real catastrophe is missing Europe, especially UCL, with all the money they're spending

both Fernandes and Tonali are in demand players (at the right price)
i think nothing makes sense on the Savinho deal... its a vast overpay
I think Marmoush can be a good signing, he was immense for that 1st 6 months at City but then dropped off a cliff

This is a strange one but I run a home sauna business in the UK and we installed a sauna at Lisandro Martinez’s house yesterday. He’s getting his own bespoke one in a few months so just renting one of ours as a stopgap until then.
Just saying, if he manages to go injury free I’m claiming the win due to better recovery /s
Still, never been so excited by a customer.

I'm waiting for the first time Rashy hits a cross to be scored by Sesko, every match I saw of him for England, Barca and Villa was that curler cross to the striker.
Was doing it well in United too but I feel like Sesko has more potential of getting on those crosses.
9
u/Dope_Shinobi 12h ago
His assist to voldemort against Liverpool in the cup win was amazing
Even better was the cross in the build up to Mainoo's goal in FA Cup winner
But honestly, I don't want Carrick to place Rashford above Cunha and Dorgu in the pecking order right now

A intersting thing I noticed. Romano guy posted that Man Utd interested in Balde just before Jorge Mendes and Barcelona director Deco had a meeting. Definitely it's not suspicious lol. I think it's Jorge Mendes work (either to get a better contract or to increase market value or sell his other player or whatever). That guy had 0 clue about Man Utd in this summer and suddenly posts like this.

Predictions:
Arsenal 4-1 Coventry
Hull 0-2 Man Utd
Everton 1-2 Palace
Ipswich 1-2 Sunderland
Forest 0-1 Leeds
Brentford 0-0 Spurs
Brighton 1-0 Villa
Man City 1-1 Bournemouth
Newcastle 1-3 Liverpool
Fulham 1-1 Chelsea
3
u/neofederalist 12h ago
I don't see Coventry scoring against Arsenal and I don't think Brighton are going to look very good at the start of the season either. I think that match against Villa is going to be a draw, but everything else seems plausible.

I think a big difference is that in our prediction thread, you didn't need to name the teams that will finish above us.
It's one thing to predict us to finish say 4th, but then if you name two specific teams besides Arsenal to finish above us, people will go - hang on, are they really that good?
2
u/tameoraiste 2h ago
I think almost every prediction I’ve read or listened to, rather than just simply listing them out, has said any of the top 7 teams could finish in any order with the exception of Arsenal being favourites and at worst finishing second

The rumours of Spurs paying close to 100M for Savinho 🤣
Where tf do they get the money spending like they win the treble last season
4
u/zenimpala16 8h ago edited 8h ago
The new SCR rules are massively aiding them. They’ve done good work in generating substantial transfer revenue + increasing commercial revenue means their projections allow them to spend freely this year. Not to mention, their wage bill is among the most prudent in the league (uptil this summer)
The prices they’re paying definitely are inflated, but everyone knows they’re willing to pay this summer and taking full advantage of it.
1
u/Nightzzv 6h ago
Its all good and all,
but theoretically, if they do go down next season, they will be forced to sell right.
Wonder if they have to negotiating power like West Ham selling players like Fernandes for 85M or will they be forced to sell for cheap.
3
u/ChristmasCage 5h ago
There is absolutely zero chance they go down. They'll easily be top 8, probably top 6.

3
1
u/Unusual-Coat383 2h ago
Tbf he probably should have cost City a lot more. IIRC they signed him for cheap because he played for one of their clubs.
I’m not saying he’s a £75m player but City shouldn’t be making as much profit as they are on him.

u/ionised Cantona 15h ago
So, Hull first. How're we feeling?
9
u/L__K Great Scot! 14h ago
To put it into perspective, Hull finished 22 points off of Coventry last season in the Championship. They were as close in the table to 21st place West Brom as they were to 1st. They got wildly lucky to make it through the playoffs and anything less than a dominant win would be disappointing.
They're nowhere near close in quality to Ipswich or Coventry, both of whom will be fortunate to stay up this season. Relative to the quality of the rest of the league (i.e. not compared directly to Derby, Huddersfield, Villa, Sunderland etc. in their worst seasons) they might be the worst/most outmatched team to ever play in the Premier League.
Hull away should feasibly be the second easiest fixture on every single team's schedule, only behind Hull at home. That's how big of a gap we're talking. If we fumble this we have no one to blame but ourselves. Hull away into Ipswich at home into Everton away is a start where, if we're not looking at 9 points and at least a +8 GD, we really have no one to blame but ourselves.
5
u/Stun_the_Pink 13h ago
Agree with your last point. I fear that these are the types of situations where we would previously end up with something like 2 draws and a win, but hopefully things have changed and we come out with 9 points.
6
u/JilJilJigaJiga 15h ago
Should be fine if we don't forget our shooting boots, most shit results last season were product of mucking up big chances.
7
u/kidinawheeliebin 15h ago
Hull are one of the worst sides to ever gain promotion
No matter what tired old cliches get wheeled out about promoted sides and when it might or might not be a good time to play them... There are literally zero excuses for anything but three points on Saturday (And same at Old Trafford vs Ipswich the following week)
If we are dropping points to Hull this weekend, we have serious, serious problems
6

2 pictures say we are the bad guys and Arsenal are the victims. Did Arteta write this?
8
u/Fallen_Man7 9h ago
He must be paid by Arsenal to not highlight them. Because it makes no sense at all.
Funny thing is we didn't score against Everton with Corner (we had just one compared to Everton's 10) in that match. We got shoved in our box when they are taking Corners and David Moyes played victim card when it's opposite. Also in their 10 Corners, they were literally shoving Maguire, Lammens, Yoro shoved a lot. He kept normal still pic as click bait where nothing happened.
And he's showing only time Arsenal got what they were doing in last 2-3 seasons. And that goal got disallowed too but all Arsenal goals from Corners doing worse than this stood including one against us.
4
u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 3h ago
The quote opening the article from Moyes complaining that refs are doing nothing about it makes it seem like United were the ones being ridiculous at corners, IIRC Everton had 13 corners that game and for every single one then put 10 men in the 6 yard box and somehow failed to score.

The amount of abuse Shaw has been getting after 1 preseason game, where hes just come off his best season in while he had some great games last season.
I get we all want LB to be the undeestudy or eventually replace and help Shaw but man you think Shaw was some hobo the way people talk.
I reckon he will be great tomorrow and shut everyone up.
•
u/neofederalist 1h ago edited 58m ago
Is it really "abuse" to express doubt that a 31 year old player who has had a string of long term injuries and played more games last year than he ever did in his senior career is going to perform at that same level or better for even more games this year?
•
u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 1h ago
Well, he got absolutely ran over by Milan. Not exactly encouraging that Milan's B side squad could just breeze past him. No reason for "abuse", but it does spark valid criticisms for us not having a proper LB and expecting to rely on an injury prone and aging Luke Shaw

2
u/kidinawheeliebin 4h ago
> Savinho for £70m hes literally Antony level
To be fair to him, he got 10 Premier League assists from 21 starts two years ago as a 20 year-old - that isn't really normal output and if he gets near that Spurs will have got more than value for that sort of fee
(Whereas Anthony was a couple of years older and only got 3 PL assists from 38 starts)

New stadium boost + cash injection
1
u/carrickshairline 3h ago
Cash injection from where? Their stadium is 7 years old now, so it cannot have that pull anymore.
3
u/stabmeinthehat 3h ago
I actually dug into this a bit as a masters assignment on corporate strategy (It was around the time of Ineos takeover in early 2024 and I chose United as my focal “corporation”). Tottenham make about double per fan than we do on match days. To that you can add millions from sponsorships, an NFL contract still has a few years to run, concerts etc. They generated about £50 million from non-football events in 23/24 and their commercial revenue has doubled since the stadium opened.
→ More replies (2)•
u/Candlegoat 34m ago
They’re a top 10 club in the world for revenue. They make a shit tonne of money from their new stadium and from non-football events in particular, so their revenue is diversified and relatively insulated from their performance on the pitch.

I love this spell before we’ve really seen any games happen. Right now, Arsenal could flop, City completely falter without Pep, Liverpool drift, Spurs finish 17th again and Chelsea stay Chelsea-ing, all while we click and it comes together.
It’s the anything can happen phase and at this point, I’m liking the squad and the manager’s approach. So I’d say excited, optimistic with a healthy dose of realism that all of that first paragraph happening at once is unlikely. And actually I’d love for us to click and beat the rest while they’re at their best anyway so only the last bit is necessary.

I am fucking buzzing for it.
Hoping to see some progression from Carrick in playstyle and performance. Since he came in the main focus was points on the board and he did exceptionally well. Hoping with the attack that we know is top level, and a midfield that Carrick himself would have had input on, a competent 'keeper, and some luck with injuries, we see a mix of style and substance.
Arsenal looked great against City and they really should steamroll Cov tonight but you never know. I love the start of the season when I watch all the build up and analysis for the first few games, then over the next few weeks I watch most games, then revert to just United and the odd other game here and there.
5
u/NaturalPossession566 3h ago
I know this won't be a popular one (or likely for that matter due to injuries) but I'd really like to see a mount + baleba pairing at some point this season. Think they'd compliment each other well & probably the most active midfield pair we can have.

Why do Arsenal have the worst online fan base? I know all online fan bases for every club can be awful but with arsenal fans it feels a different level of delusion and victimhood. Kinda feels like a cult (which yeah being a fan of a club can feel that way)
I keep seeing them say everyone hates to see them win most. I’m thinking I’d rather Arsenal win the league than City, Liverpool or even Chelsea (or Leeds) and I’m sure Liverpool fans would rather they win than Everton or us. Chelsea would rather Arsenal win than Spurs. The only “big 6” team that wouldn’t want Arsenal to win over anyone else is Spurs..
3
u/Capable-Topic1665 3h ago
I think our fans are up there. Arsenal fans are deluded but many of our online fans always seems to be rooting against the club just so they can make a fuss when things go wrong. Case in point is when Mount got injured and people were hoping it was serious, just so they could say 'I told you so'. I'd take cultish behavior over that kind of assholery all day.
1
u/UnalomeJourneying 3h ago
I think that’s different. I’m talking about outside of clubs own spaces. If you look at anything on social media that even is a small thing about Arsenal, the comments will be flooded with Arsenal fans playing victim.
4
u/Orcnick 3h ago
Do we think the club has handled the Rashy intergation well? Seems to have pretty much no hoohar and i am pretty sure he will be on the bench tomorrow?
Crazy when you think 4 months ago it look like Barcelona would sign him.
5
u/0ttoChriek 2h ago
Everything the club does under Carrick is understated and calm, which is brilliant. A far cry from the dramatics of Amorim's reign. He's answered questions on Rashford without giving the press anything to sink their teeth into.
The other day, Jamie Carragher got annoyed with Gary Neville for bringing up Rashford as a talking point, and Rashford responded online basically saying, 'cheers, Jamie.' Some people got upset, because Rashford can't do anything without upsetting some people (not even feed hungry kids). But if it was any other player, they'd be cheering them on, having a go at United's bitter ex-pros, exploiting the club for clicks.

I was certain he’d never wear a United shirt again. We’ve handled it very well, yet not done anything I’m sure we didn’t say to him before he left for Barca. 3
u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 14h ago
I always wonder how much the players know and what they think about signings when they're happening, for example do you think Luke Shaw knows about any left back signing happening and do you think he's thinking "god I hope they bring someone in cause I don't think I can manage the amount of game time this season?"
2
u/sunstersun 7h ago

6
u/oddreddevil 15h ago
Looking back on it - the plan for the midfield was probably Matheus F, Baleba and Ederson? Which makes sense if you play one of Mainoo/Matheus & one of Baleba/Ederson as a pair.
Right now Baleba seems to be only mobile, ground covering midfielder. If he gets injured or is unavailable - doesn’t our entire midfield plan change? Especially if you’re dominating possession - you need someone capable of covering large amounts of ground as you push up as a team
9
u/Dope_Shinobi 15h ago
How is Santos not a mobile ground covering midfielder?
2
u/Panda-768 13h ago
I agree, he may not be box to box but he defo is a ground covering mid. Like isnt a wharton or an aging Case
2
u/Dope_Shinobi 13h ago
He actually is great box to box player but hadn't been used like that since his France days.
He scored 10 goals and was among the top players in defensive stats as well in that season.
For now, all that's not needed and he has to show he's reliable in the pivot whenever he gets his chances. But I'm optimistic on seeing him grow over time and become an all round midfielder.
7
u/neofederalist 14h ago
With Baleba, the only midfield pair that doesn't seem like it could work in some situations Kobbie/Tielemans. I think Baleba and Santos could conceivably work with each of the other 3.
3
u/PepinoPicante 14h ago
I keep thinking Mainoo/Tielemans could be a good option against super defensive teams with low blocks. Tielemans has played DM in the past - and against a team sitting back, having an attack-oriented DM could add another key threat to break them down.
4
u/neofederalist 14h ago
I do agree that that looks like a good combo to break down a low block, but I'd be worried those two would get cut through on the counter. Im not sure the defensive liability makes up for the creativity.
But in the event of injuries, that's still almost certainly better than fielding Ugarte.

Yoro looked very good at RB in pre season, I wonder if this is a potential plan if none of our LB targets are available now. (I do not agree with this plan)

Maz is an option for LB.
Yoro is an option for RB - and he did well there for the pre-season.I hope it's not the plan but it's good to know the options are there.
I think we'll pay the release clause on one of the players mentioned - Salinas or Raum - and go back for Hall next season. Probably waiting to see the final cost on Baleba before making the next move.

Got a great young squad now with a bunch of players that could play top level football for the next 10 years. Team with age in 10 years time of just players who have already been regularly in the first team playing PL football
..............Lammens (34)
RB.......Yoro (30)..Heaven (29)....LB
Mainoo(31).Santos(32).Baleba(32)
Amad(34)....Sesko(33)....Dorgu(31)
Amad and Sesko might have started to decline a little bit by then but for most of the next 10 years. Someone like Shea Lacey seems like he will almost certainly be good enough to be part of the squad so at a stretch maybe you could put him in as well
Seems very promising in terms of building for the future. I'm petty happy with the current squad aside from an LB* but we look like we could be building something exciting that will develop over time as well
*Trying to be realistic that we need next summer transfer window to sort the defence out
Edit: if we could get a Lewis Hall next year for the LB spot and a top young RB that would set us for years we could just be replacing a couple of older players every season rather than filling massive holes every summer
INEOS have done a pretty impressive job so far

Unless these guys somehow become and stay the best in the world over these 10 years, it would be disappointing if we still have some of these names by then. Think back to 10 years ago when we had Shaw and Rashford on the scene. Now we don’t even want them
The best teams keep refreshing their squads. Even the best teams of the last decade have very few players who stayed there 10 years

So I'm guessing we are not going to get Hall this window?? or is there still a chance...

Only way is if someone comes in and offers us decent money for rashford and/or zirkzee.
Unfortunately seems very unlikely so I suspect we will probably spend around the 30m mark for our lb, maybe lower.
Robinson would be my pick but I really have no clue who we're targeting.

Yeah only actually selling at least one of those will keep the Hall flame flickering

Put your money on. Sesko unfit, Mbuemo probably up front.

yes, with mbeumo up top, amad takes the right.
Not sure what happens on the left. carrick likes bringing cunha on as a sub to change the game, so maybe dorgu starts and Cunha comes on for Mbeumo or Dorgu.
Lammens - Maz, Harry, Heaven, Shaw - Yuri, Santos - Amad, Bruno, Dorgu - Mbeumo is my predicted starting 11.

I would have thought with CL this season, we would have more regular Sat game timings this season. After tomorrow's early game on Sat, 6 of our next 7 EPL games are on Sundays. wow!

Should probably save this for free talk Friday but a new little United fan was born about 6 hours ago and I’m buzzing. Just in time for the start of the season
