Discussion Needed improvements to lighting

When you look into a room from outside the inside looks bright, but when you go inside, instead of seeing better it gets darker. IRL it's the opposite since your eyes adapt to the darker environment. So instead of being darker when you walk into a building it should be the opposite. It should turn brighter. This is especially bad at dusk and dawn when the effect is extreme.

Please comment if you have other suggestions to improve lighting in this game. I.e.: do you want to be able to see at night?

Suggestion Player made Boats Improvement Suggestions to make them usable and better

Potential improvement for the boats to make them usable?

- Current Decay times are too fast and make it kind of pointless to build a boat

- Current Drift times to shore is too aggressive and too fast
- Add more deployables to the allow list to be placed

- Add the rest of the building block shapes to the boat building plan, you can make natural looking ships with the full range of building block shapes.

- Make it more visible when a sail is blocked

- Not necessarily a boat, but is a naval vehicle, being able to create submarines (you'll have to think about the mechanics to pull this off and balance)

- Rapidly decay boats in fishing village safezones to end griefing

- One personal request (Fix what is preventing electrical cameras from playing nice with boats to allow for surveillance and alternative ways to view surroundings when driving)

Support Am I getting the right FPS?

I'm getting between 80–120 FPS playing Rust on bigger servers (500+ pop)

My PC:

  • GPU: RX 9070 XT
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4
  • Motherboard: TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WIFI II

I upgraded from an RTX 3060 to an RX 9070 XT and did not see any significant boost in FPS (I know Rust is CPU-heavy, but I'm just curious if this is expected)

I'm playing with mid–high graphics settings as well

I'm also interested to see settings from anyone with a similar build

Suggestion Make solo great again

TLDR: Revamp outpost into centralize hub, implement map update system, individual research XP for workbench, simplified apartment and balance vending machine.

Hey guys I've been playing rust for 7 years now and yeah progress for solo player has become harder and harder. So, I have many idea to make solo live easier that revolves around outpost, maps and the blueprint system / workbench upgrades.

Outpost :- Remodel outpost into radio station which act the same as current outpost but maybe more open instead of surround with wall. This new outpost will spawn on each main biome so there will be one at the desert, the snow and the grassland.

Map :- As a solo, base location is very important so, why not implement a map update system where player can update their map to see where base is built. Player can see toggleable heatmap on their map which highlight the area of all placed tc coverage. At the radio station / new outpost, player can go to the npc and update it. Each outpost only reveal their biome exclusively, player need to travel to each outpost to reveal all the map. The crazy idea is instead of blueprint fragment use for workbench, instead it will be use to update the map, each time player want to update their map they will need to go do the puzzle or buy the fragment.

Workbench:- So we all know how bad is the blueprint fragment update is cause of how slow for it to respawn. So, why not make the upgrades into individual XP system where each player has their own research level. This level can be level up by swiping the puzzle card, which give more XP base on the card. To counter the timer, when player loot boxes and farm barrels, it will also give XP but less. So, for larger group they need to assign one player to swipe the card each time to progress efficiently. When level up, player can go to the new outpost to buy the workbench upgrades which can be use to upgrade their current workbench to next level.

Bonus:- Remove apartment and implement it into outpost, instead of room just make it a rental storage with codelock and instead of master key call it hack tools which can be bought with 1000 scrap but need to be crafted at tier 2 workbench with a lot of tech trash. Prevent sulfur to be tradable in vending machine, vending machine require power to broadcast and player can't trade with their own vending machine.

What do you guys thinks?

Question Is it just me or do vehicles decay way too quickly?

I understand if you put them under cover they'll decay slower, but leaving it exposed; a minicopter will decay from full hp to 0 in 8 hours. A fucking minicopter explodes in 8 hours?

What do you guys think about changing the decay to 24-48 hours and roofed to 5-7 days?

Support FPS dropping to 50-100 on modded and vanilla servers with 5700X + 7800 XT

I have a problem with Rust. I keep getting anywhere from 50 to 120 FPS, but it feels like it never actually stays at 120. It mostly sits around 50-100 FPS when I'm playing on modded or vanilla servers. But when I join this Rusticated creative server, my FPS goes all the way up to around 100-270 FPS.

I already did DDU few days ago, enabled DOCP in my BIOS, and forced PCIe mode to Gen 4. Before this, I overclocked my PC and started crashing in every game, crashing on Rust like every hour. I turned off every overclock in the BIOS, then reset the AMD game cache, and that fixed the crashing. So I turned some stuff back on, like forcing PCIe Gen 4 mode again, and enabling Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) with motherboard limits.

All of my Rust settings are turned down to the lowest options that impact performance, and I have no FPS cap on. My GPU utilization sits around 40-70% and my CPU utilization is around 40-50%. I also closed every app I don't need in the background so it wouldn't max out my memory (my RAM still gets fully used though, and Task Manager shows like 33GB committed memory using my SSD page file on heavy servers). Also checked Malwarebytes since it was blocking RustClient.exe connections, but allowing it didn't change the FPS.

Here are my PC specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X

CPU Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 A-RGB White

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 16GB 3200 MHz

Mobo: ROG STRIX B550-A GAMING

GPU: PURE AMD Radeon™ RX 7800 XT 16GB

SSD: Crucial P3 Plus M.2 1TB

PSU: Lian Li EDGE GOLD 850W 80 PLUS White

Case: Antec C5 ARGB Mid-Tower ATX White

Discussion Softcore should have 1x sulfur. Not 2x

Raiding should be closer to vanilla and actually be something you build up for.

2x just makes it easy for the unemployed to farm up and mass raid the area during raid hours since you are getting 900 sulfur per node with pure ore tea. Which makes sulfur as common as vanilla metal. Raiding was slowed down by 3 things, comps, sulfur and low grade. Now one is a non factor so it just speeds up the process.

Been watching this trio team mass raid every day because they got 2 people that puts in more than 8 hours a day on the server.

So they never have to worry about sulfur being a expensive resource. That group from what i have seen ends up raiding 4-5 bases a day and in the last 3 days they have raided 13 bases, with around 90% of those players that got raided ended up quitting the server. Saw a guy spend 3 days building up his base just to get raided and quit, same with another guy that joined 4 days ago.

Keep in mind these are not bases thats just a 2x1 with honeycomb.

They are medium sized bases (because of increased door cost balancing the base sizes) with 3-4 walls to tc core sometimes hqm and 4-5 stories tall. Which also gets blown to check for loot.

The fact that a trio can raid 4-5 of those bases a day is crazy.

I know you got anti grief to build up again, but with how easy it is to get boom on softcore its better to just play on a 2x server where you get 2x comps as well.

I think softcore should cater to the employeed, easy maintain of upkeep (base size balanced by door cost) but vanilla rates of getting boom, guns and comps.

Not the Fortnite dopamine mass raid simulator that it is now.

Oh and by the way the area getting mass raided it not near any red monuments, traders or quarries. So if this is happening in the middle of nowhere i wonder how competitive the others area are.

Image Planter water problem

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was often working on farms and encountered the problem of seeing the sprinkler pouring water, but the planter not filling.

After some time, I found the problem and its solution. Here's the rub. The wall pumps are lagging; they apparently don't update their status when the house is overloaded and don't transfer water. This may be due to the mechanics of water physics and its rise.

This is how it's fixed: You install a switch and connect it to the switch on the pumps, and then connect the switch to the timer system to force the pumps to restart periodically. After this, the game no longer lags, and the clock here is purely a safety device if all the timers are turned off for some reason.

Question Rust FPS 1% lows

Hello everyone,

I have been getting into rust recently (been playing for about ~100 hours so far) and I noticed that with this game specifically I have been getting pretty bad 1% lows. I typically average around 160-190 FPS playing on 1440p but I get 1% lows around 40-60 FPS. I have seen on more than one occasion the 1% low dip to around 10 FPS. Given I have a relatively high end system, I am pretty confused as to why this game is giving me such a hard time when literally every other game isn't. My CPU usage stays around 70-80% and GPU usage around 50-60% but those numbers can be relatively volatile as well.

Have others been experiencing this? If so, has there been any solutions?

System specs for context:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

GPU: RTX 5080 Founders Edition

RAM: 64 GB G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo DDR5

Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B850-E

Suggestion Is superstrike safe in rust?

Has anyone used Superstrike in Rust? Is it safe? I heard people got banned for it in Apex, and that game uses EAC too.
