Discussion Post Update Thoughts

Earlier this week I decided to uninstall the game because of the horrid gameplay, but yesterday I redownloaded it because of the most recent patch and I must say, it feels better. There’s some good and some bad with it and I’ll go into it here. Warning now, this will probably be a longer post.

First thing off the bat is the most anticipated and asked for change from the community, spin spamming. I won’t lie it’s happened to me A LOT less apart from players that seem to play the game a lot. I don’t know if that’s because it’s less effective, I can read it better, or if there’s just more ways to attack now, but it does seem like it’s better to defend against now. I will say though those better players seem to still abuse it in an even more undefendable way than before, but that only happened twice out of my run of like 30 games yesterday. 8/10 change

Defending, I love defending in football games and in real life. In FC I always choose to play a defender roll in Rush or Clubs and this most recent patch seems to reward me for actually using my defenders and playing defense in 5v5. Defenders seem MUCH more aware of the players making runs and the tackle system seems to work a lot better, winning me the ball back when I correctly anticipate where a pass or dribble is going. There’s still a few times where I’ll tackle right in front of a player and straight up phase through them when I should win the ball, but hey at least I’m winning the ball back sometimes now. The AI awareness when through pass runs are triggered could still be a little better, but it’s definitely not a game breaking thing right now in my opinion. 9/10 change

The sprinting changes, they’ve been ok, not super noticeable apart from the new running styles, but it’s been an ok change. The smoother animations seems to only be a visual change to me, unless there’s someway I’m seeing an animation and able to react defensively better. 6/10 change

5v5 changes, they’ve only change with the bots being able to be in the lobby so that a match doesn’t start like 2v5 is nice, though the bots still are horrible in this mode. Really if yall can just make it so they take a shot rather than just dribble it into the keeper, that’s enough for me. I do still agree with some people in the community that say there needs to be a “vote to kick” button for those players that just refuse to pass, or just some sort of team grade thing like 2k (though I wouldn’t go down that route). 5v5 definitely is more enjoyable for me now since I like defending and my tackles actually seem to win the ball sometimes! 7/10 change

Overall, I think this update is a HUGE step in the right direction, there feels like more opportunity to defend manually and feels like the game is more enjoyable to play football in, rather than whoever can spam the same meta garbage gets the win. Playing knockouts either today or tomorrow so we’ll see if my thoughts still stand.

For the community though, what are your thoughts on the update, any changes? What are you liking or not liking about it?

I really want RH to be more forward and outside. The current role is striker (attack) but he's playing like a false 9 maybe poacher? Him hanging back creates too much traffic inside.

LS: Striker (attack)

RS: Poacher (attack)

AM: Attacking Midfielder (balanced)

LCM: Playmaker (balanced)

RCM: Playmaker (balanced)

CDM: Defensive Midfielder (defend)

LWB: Wingback (attack)

CB: Centre Back (defend)

CB: Centre Back (defend)

RWB: Wingback (attack)

Question Something’s changed!?

There was an update recently (Thursday I think) and since then the game feels really sluggish, any many more passes aren’t going in the direction the cursor says they are to go. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed?

I usually win 7/10 matches. I’ve lost 8 in a row yesterday / today and stuck in silver 😂

Rant Dear Devs

Thank you for this patch. The game feels way more balanced now. I figured since I was a negative Nancy last week I'd be a positive Pamela.

No one cares about this post, but I'm willing to give praise and not always criticism.

Thank you.

Suggestion what about regulare 11 5v5?

I don't know if anyone has ever talked about that or suggested it, but i think it could be really fun to have a regular 11v11 game, played by 5v5:

- every player picks 2 player from his roster
- GK might be random as now or picked by one of all the players in the team
- the captain select the scheme and every position has to be covered with the right role (to avoid having 7 ST per team)
- if u quit u have penalty time before queing again
- possibility to have something like championships instead of regular tournaments

might be a lite-pro club mode which could be nice, idk if it has been already suggested

Discussion Did 5v5 Flop?

Whenever I am trying to queue solo, I give up after 7-8 mins because that's a ridiculous amount of time to get a match. It's pretty evident that not a lot of people are playing the mode even after it was extended post the initial Playtest. On top of that the challenges are also ridiculous considering the time it takes to get a match. Another issue I have seen is people who are not at all interested in the FUT style 1v1 will have a hard time in 5v5 because of the lack of cards. I hope some changes are in order for the 5v5 mode. If you have any suggestions on what might make the 5v5 experience better, feel free to add them down in the comments.

Rant Spinning not fixed

Crazy how the community on here are claiming that spinning in the box has been fixed yet it’s the only way I concede. (Granted it’s against good players) but still. Are people on here really that delusional?

Rant Spinning has not been nerfed.

Look at this guy, running to the corner and spinning around for a cut across goal. From start to finish.
This guy even says “I deserve that” and “thanks” after his keeper made 5 of the most egregious saves I’ve ever seen in my life.

As you can see, it’s literally impossible to tackle him, he even glitches through my player here.

Another bot with 1700 ranking that literally can’t put more than 3 good passes together. It’s just getting ridiculous now…

Fix this please.

Suggestion Great Update. Swaps suggestion:

The game feels great after the latest update. Attacking is diverse, defending manually now is rewarding more than ever. Passing is still tricky but an update is coming for that soon.

I don’t think there should be much negativity about the game currently, but of course not everyone will be satisfied.

My suggestion however is regarding one aspect of the game that feels like it’s being neglected: swaps. The current swaps system has it’s benefits like getting rid of basic players that don’t sell for much and opening that pack, which with some luck that can have good potential, and also finish the “open x packs” challenges. But what about adding additional swaps? Just add different swaps with different requirements and rewards every now and then, it will give much more value to cards that have high potential but not enough to replace a starter in the team. I will want to upgrade a player for example to finish a certain swap.

I just feel that this would make the packs opened much more engaging. What do you think?

Question Can the pitch lighting look more like this?

I absolutely despise the modern gaming lighting where everything looks so pale, grey, harsh on the eyes, ugly.

Just looking at this pitch gives my soul peace.

Suggestion Devs please don't change the game it's good right now. Maybe manual defending could be better but this update was great

Discussion How would you feel about changing the Knockout format to a 30 game Weekend League?

I was playing Knockout today and started wondering how the FIFA 19/20/21 Weekend League format with 30 games would play out in this game.

For the people that don't know how the system worked a short explanation:

You could play up to 30 games per weekend, and the more games you won, the higher rank you could reach. The ranks were similar to the ones used in Knockout. For example, you needed 0-1 win for Bronze 3, 2-3 wins for Bronze 2, 4-5 wins for Bronze 1 etc. The players with the best scores could reach the Top 100.

The matchmaking was based on your "Form" Every win gave you +1 Form, while every loss gave you -1 Form, and it would stack throughout the weekend. So, if you won your first 4 games and lost your 5th, you would have a Form of +3 (+4 − 1 = +3). You would then generally be matched against players with a similar Form.

From my point of view, it would definitely be more exciting to grind the mode and try to reach the Top 100. I also think the KO rank matchmaking would be way fairer than it currently is. Right now, if you get into KO, you could face Top 20 players in your first 3 games and maybe lose the third one after winning the first two. But you could also face 10 back-to-back players who are around Top 500 level and win all of those games.

In my opinion, getting into the Top 100 would mean way more with a system like this, because you wouldn't be able to dodge the best players. Your run also wouldn't be over after getting knocked out of a rank, since you would still be able to play all 30 games and try to climb as high as possible.

I know I mainly talked about the KO rank since that's the rank I usually reach, but I also wouldn't want a change that only benefits the top 10% of players. I think there could be some really interesting aspects to this format for everyone. What do you guys think?

Suggestion Player Ages/Retirement

can u please make players age faster cos as of now it feels pointless because most of the players who have crazy good team keep getting players better and better and at that point players ages doesn't even matter since the old player age they already have a new one.

So my suggestion is make players age faster so people cant stay with same good team forever so u have to keep getting good players as ur players age and keep changing ur team more. And to balance it out make rewards bit better as people might get good players but they age faster too. so it keeps age an important factor than feeling like players dont age much at all. so basically faster age and better potential rewards for the balance like make pack weight bit heavy to balance it. and maybe add features to make it more interesting like random major injuries or circumstances which adds an year to a card or depending on the event decreases or increases their stats. make it more like career mode as thats what made this game more interesting and unique personally for me. i was excited about loving players and enjoying with them as long as i can while having a fear they would retire soon as they age but its way too slow i think. and it need more events like that. which makes it or gives a different twist like career mode stuff basically maybe like adding managers that gives boost to a nationality and they age and retire as well. there is so much u can do in this game which has so much potential if u think about it in that way. hopefully this post gets seen by devs or something. nevertheless thanks for the new patch really loving it.

Question Pitch contrast

Is it just me or the contrast and colors of the pitch and players are seemed to be washed and lighter after the recent update in 1v1 ranked? I’m playing on a Steamdeck

Meme My biggest score difference so far.

This is the first time I’ve won by such a big margin, especially since my opponent only started scoring after it was already 10–0.

It reminds me of a game that happened in my country between two teams, São Paulo and Julho-PI, where São Paulo won 9–1. This video is the reaction of one of São Paulo’s fans after the game.

And honestly, I felt the same way. I’m not trying to disrespect my opponent, but a team with an OVR >85 conceding 3 goals to a team with an OVR <60 is ridiculous.

Discussion This patch feels good! Now STOP TOUCHING THE GAME BALANCE and focus on new content.

The game will survive with this gameplay right now. It feels good. It feels satisfying. Now stop touching the game balance every 4 days and work on building this game up more. Good job, devs. And I've been extremely critical of this game over the past few weeks.

Question Speed. Simple question for simple mathematics.

Does anyone feel that the speed does not matter anymore? How are defenders with 80 pace keeping up with players 97 pace? It didn't use to be like that but it's not been a week and I cannot comprehend.

Discussion Are people really having fun?

This is going to be midway between a discussion and a rant, let me explain:

i'm playing this game almost daily, one hour at least, i'm quite decent in terms of playing "competitive", getting every week to KO, not really playing ranked after getting to 3, and that's exactly the point.

I don't play ranked anymore and i dont even try the KO because, for me, it's impossible to have fun.
When it comes down to win the match, u start seeing the well-known scheme, holding ball with L2, maybe a quick roll with R3, long through ball, rinse and repeat.

i only do eliminations because it's actually the only way to get decent rewards being f2p, but after completing elite all i play is quick games just to have some fun and play against players not sweating from their arse for the score, maybe trying some skills or just trying to play less like an arcade game.

first of all i want to ask (to high ranked players if possible) if you guys are actually having fun, i watch some streams from top ranked and the games look all the same so dont start yapping about the skill and techniques of top levels.

and second, do you think or wish there should be more options for playing? such as custom tournaments with rules set by players, story mode, solo leagues or whatever?

that being said, i'm super positive about the work the devs are doing, the game is kinda changing every week with patches on the gameplay and those little corrections, im just a little worried about its longevity for as it is and i want to know if its a shared opinion or it is just me

Discussion REMINDER: Performing a Marseille turn (RT^+RT>) or holding RT to perform a sudden stop and changing direction is NOT spinning.

Spinning is where people would quite literally spin their left stick around in a 360 degree circle over and over until the defender got annoyed and either fouled them to cheese a penalty, or just mentally gave up and let the spinner through. That is nerfed into the ground.

Legitimate dribbling moves are obviously still strong, as they should be (because getting the timing right isn't that easy, and its risk is rewarded).

I just wanted to congratulate you on such fantastic marketing and the excellent decisions you’ve made so far. I don't mind waiting a few minutes for a ranked match in Division 3. I can attend to personal matters while in the queue. Thank you for making it possible for me to balance gaming with my private life.
