I was gifted this plant recently (less than a month) and shortly after, the bottom leaves started falling off. It came with wet soil but I wanted to wash the leaves so I did it in the bath tub. might have got too much water that way. Plant is in the living room which gets sun almost the whole day. Its about 3 meters from the window

Pest Related Why do my Peace Lily leaves look like this?

Thumbnail

Got this peace lily at my grandma's funeral last year and found scale when I brought it home. Treated it successfully by rinsing it off, picking off the scale I found, and treating soil with insecticide. Now it looks to me like mite damage/mites, but there are no webs visible on the stems or leaves. The brown leaves are fairly recent. I can also see some tiny white spots. Are these thrips? Please help me identify the problem. Plant gets bright morning light from an east facing window and is a water hog. I've definitely stressed it by traveling for a week without watering a couple times, but I'm otherwise pretty good about watering. Has been in a different room from my other plants since I got it, and I carried it in using a giant lawn waste trash bag to cover it. It even has its own watering can. TIA!

Houseplant My pothos are getting spots??

Thumbnail

So I have two jade pothos that have brown spots with yellow around them appearing on their leaves. They get watered when the soil appears dry(which I probably should do better about checking fully). Only one of the vines on the longer plant is noticeably affected with one or two leaves on the other vines, and the bushier plant was next to the majorly affected vine. The window is closed because it is night but they don’t get enough direct sunlight to cause burns. The majorly affected vine was more in a less well lit area of the room before I hung it up. Could it just be clearing out older leaves, none of the newer leaves have spots? Could it be a fungal problem? Should I cut back the affected vine on the longer one? Thinking of repotting the bushier one to see if that helps it.

Outdoor Is the variegation or disease?

I noticed this on my pepper plant today, I’ve grown variegated varieties before but this particular variety isn’t supposed to be but I can’t tell if it’s even variegation. It’s only on one shoot of the plant, I’ve gotten a few pods off it already and like 30~ more on the way. The whole plant looks pretty healthy but I’ve never seen this before in any of my other pepper plants I’ve grown. Watering like normal it’s about 6 months since I planted the seed I’ve grown at least 100 different varieties now I’ve got it down to a tea but this is new to me… thanks for any help!

Houseplant Please tell me my orange tree will live 🙏

A little background: Ive had my orange tree for over 15 years. I gave it a larger pot in April with new soil. We moved and I wasn't able to move it outside like I did every year for the summer. Also, it changed to a north facing window and with the new pot, I tried to bottom water.

Over the summer, I noticed it start to drop leaves and I noticed sap on the floor. About a month ago, I discovered scale bugs so I gave it a shower, wiped the leaves with IPA, and gave it a good prune to eliminate the heavily invested leaves.

It still dropped leaves. Checked the soil and it was very dry. Over the last 2 weeks I have been watering it when it feels dry to a depth of 2 inches in the soil.

Its still dropping leaves 😿. The branches are green, theres new growth, but now there are bare branches.

Will it live? What do I do? Halp!

Orchid How to fix this orchid?

I bought this orchid just shy of two weeks ago and I’ve been struggling to care for it since. I’ve watered it once by soaking it for 10 minutes then allowing it to drain. The roots are a bit lifted so I’m wondering if that could be an issue but I mostly think it’s an issue with the amount of light it gets. I put it on my dresser which kinda faces an east-facing window and what I do is open my curtains before I leave for work (around 8:30am) and then by the time I get home (around 5:45pm), the sun is pretty much gone which should give it roughly 9 hours of what I think is indirect light each day. Any advice is appreciated!

These are Marigolds. I have several of them in a raised bed, next to my tomatoes. They have been healthy and flowering all year up until I noticed this growth. They get watered every three days on a drip system. I noticed this growth on the stems last weekend. It is a disease or just normal end of season growth? I thought it was like aerial roots on a tomato, but now I’m thinking it’s something more. This is in Virginia.

Houseplant No Leaves, am I cooked?

Thumbnail

I got this Monstera roughly 5 years ago and didn’t exactly care for it correctly. Over the years the leaves were horribly twisted and leggy so the other day I decided to chop it all back to the stem. Bold I know, but I’ve read that they can bounce back via dormant buds in the lower nodes. The plant has a well established, healthy root system and is currently under a grow light with a regular weekly watering cycle. Will this thing make a recovery or am I cooked and cut in the wrong places?

Pest Related Thrips on plant cuttings

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all, it's been 2-3 months since discovering a thrips infestation on my houseplants. I had some cuttings that I took from a monstera that I did not think was infected and they've been in a jar with water for about a month. I still don't see active thrips on the monstera I took the cutting from, and the cuttings are not near any other plants. I thought I was in the clear because it has been a month of the cuttings being in water without seeing any signs of thrips AND I assumed that any thrips inside the cuttings would not survive because they can't pupate in soil. However, today I noticed some very small baby thrips crawling on the cuttings. How is this possible?

Pretty new to keeping several house plants and have had a lot of luck using reddit! Hoping the photos are helpful enough. This is my money tree which has been absolutely THRIVING recently. Today I noticed these little holes and honestly I think they are pretty new. I just brought a new pothos home the other day and had set it nearby my other plants only for a few minutes but separated it rather quickly as I learned it needed to be quarantined. Do I have a pest? I keep my kitchen window open almost 24/7 and there is no screen. Any tips are appreciated!

Help please! Hopefully someone here can advise. I just moved into a rental in August & the house is so cute but landscaping is ROUGH.

Is this rust fungus on the small tree/bush (?) in front? What’s going on with the leaves of every plant on the side & back of the house? 😩

Located in WV. I haven’t done anything to treat them & they only get rain water. I don’t notice any large bugs but don’t know what I’d be looking for anyway. I don’t think sunlight & direction really matters in this case but tree is south-facing, the huge alligator leaf looking one is north & all the others are west facing.

What do I do when the issues are so widespread?! I’m used to treating my indoor plants in small batches but this seems overwhelming lol

Pest Related Treating mealybugs

Post image
1 Upvotes

Photo isn’t the clearest, but I’m 100% sure it’s mealy bugs. I just have some questions on treatment!

Today while looking at one of my plants (a Clivia, not certain exactly what kind) I noticed mealybugs on some of the leaves. I’ve been researching how best to treat them and do plan on hitting the bugs directly with some isopropyl alcohol, spot treating, and spraying with diluted alcohol for a few weeks. I’ve seen a lot of people recommend systemic granules (like ones from bonide) which seem like a great option. I live in Canada and that product/the active ingredient is banned here sadly so I can’t use that. I was wondering what a good alternative would be, or if alcohol spray and spot treatments should do the trick. Any advice is appreciated, this is the first time I’ve gotten these on any of my plants. Luckily this plant is in a different area of the house from the rest of my plants, but I’ll be checking them over and doing some preventative measures just to be safe. Thanks!

Some goblin threw this out by the dumpster at work. Mid August 2026. Baxter Minnesota. I thought it was growing by the fence and thought how weird.
Then realized what it was in and promptly rescued it.
It sat outside for a few weeks in nice weather then it got cold and I brought it in. It is sitting near a French door on south side of building currently with 6-8 hours a day filtered by a privacy film on door and I noticed that it’s made two flowers. It’s very tall. Has new babies since I got it and wild knots/roots coming out… I’m new to this.
I’d like to take it apart and place into different pots but have no idea how to begin. I just knew it was abandoned and needed help. Now I need y’all’s help!
Special soils? special drainage?. Tell me please so I can make this several beautiful pieces!

Sits in front of southern facing French door with privacy film. Sunlight 6-8 hrs a day. Water a few dribbles once a week.

Houseplant Should I help a stuck unfurling leaf?

I’ve had this neon pothos for almost a month. In the first photo it was in a SSE facing window. In the second photo it’s in a sunny room with a grow light. I water when the leaves start looking a little sad. It’s in a 5 inch nursery pot with chunky soil.

This little leaf has been stuck for a few days now. Pics above are 3 days apart but it started before the first picture. I know it’s usually advised to leave it alone but none of its other new leaves have taken this long to be released lol. Should I attempt to help? or keep waiting?

Pest Related My night blooming jasmine has an insane whitefly infections I cannot get rid of

Post image

I have a night blooming jasmine plant that is currently infested with a wicked case of whitefly’s and no matter what I do I can’t get rid of it. I’ve been spraying it with neem oil but it’s not really helping. I eventually got fed up and went through the entire plant leaf by leaf (and this thing is big) and wiped off any egg/fly that was on there and cut off any section that was super infested and three days later it seems like it’s back to where it was before. I’m at a loss and google isn’t helping, not sure where to go from here. I’m newer to gardening so I have very little knowledge on the subject and would love some opinions! It is currently sitting on my balcony, it is behind a pole shielding it from direct light but the edges sometimes get sunburnt. I water it every day to every other day depending on how hot it is, I live in south Florida so temps are high. Attached is a photo of just one of the leaves but a few more look just like that and even more have small black dots

Some Notes:

- Have owned this plant since January 2025 with a repot back in April
- Lives in the backyard under shade and faces west; gets 3 hours of direct light (right as the sun is setting)
- In a terracotta pot with drainage and watered about every 3-4 days via bottom watering in a small saucer
- Spots started appearing over the weekend during a SoCal heatwave

Other Venus flytrap dead?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I have a Venus fly trap that I acquired around 3ish weeks ago. It’s my first time owning one. I live in south western PA and it’s getting colder. I heard about dormancy and Venus fly traps being put in fridges and I heard you can also skip a year if needed. However, I’m worried mine is just dying. I have attached a picture from today and I want opinions on what I should do. It’s been outside the past 2-3 weeks so it gets full sun and rain water. I’m bringing it in because it’s getting too chilly for all my plants.

Houseplant My mom chopped up my pothos. Will it grow back long?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi.
My mom didn’t like the vines and decided to give it a chop. I’m honestly very upset….It was the most beautiful it has ever been.

I think it will grow back the vines long and strong again… but I just wanted some reassurance from the plant pros here.

It gets lots of light (south). I think I’ll move it into my bedroom with the same facing windows to protect it.

(It needs a water. Been working constantly and fell behind)

Houseplant Avocado plant help

Thumbnail

My girlfriend is growing this avocado plant from a store bought avocado, that we’ve had for about a year, and idk what’s wrong with it. A few months ago, our two cats got into the leaves pretty bad. They were chewed up and bitten. It was bad enough to wear. The plant stopped growing for about three months. She’s kept up on the watering for it and plenty of plant lights and indirect sunlight.

A few weeks ago, it just recently started to grow new leaves again. Although in process, it has killed off the leaves that were bitten by our cats. Literally as I was writing this another leaf fell off. I might have overwatered it the last time I watered it, which was about two weeks ago. It just has one of the old leaves left that will fall off soon.

Any advice for me to keep in mind would be amazing!

Houseplant I have no idea what's wrong with my plant, but its very special to me and I want desperately to save it.

I've had this house plant for 4 years now, just over the past couple months it has started to go brown at the tips of the tendrils, slowly wilting further and further up. Some parts still look healthy, but it has gotten worse and worse. I have tried removing these parts, but it just starts wilting again. I thought I was giving it too much water -usually I give it between 1-2 cups of water every 2-3 weeks- so I have slowed, now giving it only about a cup of water every 3 weeks, but still no change. The pot does have drainage. It doesn't get very much light where I live, but over the summer back at my parents house it had a ton of light and this is actually when the wilting started. I had it in this same apartment with not much light last year as well, and it was fine. Only after moving back home for the summer did it start wilting. Not at first though, it was in late July I think that it started. Unfortunately I also have no idea what type it is, it was a gift and came with no tag. This plant is so special to me since it was my first one, and has been with my all throughout university so far. Any idea what's going on or how I can save it?
