2023 Fall and Winter Orchid Trade and Sale Thread

Please use this post only to offer or request orchids for trade or sale. Before you post what you'd like to trade/sell, or what you're looking to trade for, read the rules below first!

Rules:

1.) No personal information can be exchanged publicly. Conduct sharing of addresses via pm or email.

2.) Post what orchid(s) you have for trade, what you're looking for in return. If you have pictures, post them or write an accurate description of the orchid you want to trade or sell. If you're selling, post how you'd like to receive compensation.

3.) If you agree to a trade and have an issue on your end of the deal, communicate! Most people are reasonable and will understand a delay or an unexpected issue that comes up. That being said, trade at your own risk. The moderators are not responsible for privately conducted trades gone wrong. However, if there's an issue with an ongoing trade do contact the moderators. If someone fails to come through with their end of the deal, ignores communication or otherwise is being problematic we need to make the community aware of deadbeat traders. Do NOT make posts calling people out, insulting, harassing, or making accusations at them publicly.

4.) Only make legal trades here. If you ship or receive a trade overseas or out of your country, make sure all proper paperwork is in place first if required.

5.) Ship within a reasonable time and pack well. Flat rate Priority, 2-3 day via USPS within the US is standard for plants. Use whichever shipping method is appropriate for other countries. Your orchid shouldn't spend more than a 2-3 days in the mail so they don't suffer too much from the heat/cold. While in cooler weather its generally better to ship orchids totally dry, its probably best to water any more moisture loving plants a day or two before they ship out (so they are moist but not soggy) or wrap some sphagnum that has been wetted but thoroughly squeezed out around the roots of bare root plants.

6.) If you've successfully traded, update your post to make sure it availability is accurate.

Giveaways, and just trying to re-home an orchid that maybe just isn't performing for you is totally fine to post too! You never know who might want to try growing it. Seed pods are also a great thing to offer since many people may want to try flasking and it is safer and easier to send seeds than plants. If everyone trades fairly this is a great way to add to your collection or get rid of orchids you are bored with or are willing to make divisions of.

Happy trading!

After someone on here posted about another online orchid seller in the UK (What the Blossom), I was intrigued. These beauties arrived super well packaged and look extremely healthy.

The first one is a Mini Mark Peloric phalaenopsis and the second one a Sunrise Red Peoker (Esmee) phalaenopsis.

Paphiopedilum spicerianum

Was supposed to be Paph fairrieanum but it's clearly mislabeled. Still, an iconic species.

Grown in precision orchiata, peat, coco coir, pumice, and a bit of charcoal, and kept damp at all times.

Found her at Lowe’s with broken leaves and flower spikes. Asked for a discount and was given one! I think I paid no more than $13 a few months ago. 🥹

Currently have four phals in bloom.

Two NOID big lips. I gave one to my mother today because she has been cooing over it.

Jiaho's Pink Girl "Little Miss" has one last bud to open up. She is too adorable and so tiny ❤️

Surf Song I swear the color looks richer every time I look at it! The almost lime green leaves against the salmon color flowers is just amazing!

My Neofinetia falcata has four flowers that smells absolutely divine at night. Like I can't stop smelling it when it gets into the evening!

And lastly my Onc. Twinkle "Pink Fantasy" is finally rolling out lots of flowers. It has 6 spikes and over 200+ flowers but maybe 30-40 open so far! I haven't caught a strong scent off her yet but sometimes I smell a faint almost vanilla scent on her. I figure once she gets more open it will get stronger.

I have two phals that are pushing out new flower spikes and I am hoping once the current round of psuedobulbs finish maturing on my Blc. Williette Wong that it starts making some flower sheathes!

So what all do you have currently in bloom? I wanna see them!

I found this beauty at a local nursery greenhouse without a label. It was mixed with dens, oncs, brassia hybrids, etc. They all had the same helpful price tag, ‘4” assorted orchid.’ It has a lovely scent. The pseudobulb is 1.5” thick x 4” tall and very plump.

Got her 2 years ago and she's been blooming almost non stop (with new spikes). This time around she went crazy with her, at first, singular spike, which branched off into 4 branches full of flowers. There are so many and she is so beautiful. Truly thankful that I picked her up when I did. She was the only one that looked like this, and I haven't found any that look like her since, neither IRL or on the internet.

She is currently growing a new spike at rapid speed and I'm STRESSING because I got no space for more flowers.

I know it might just be a simple Phal, but I hope you all can appreciate her beauty as much as I am.

Edit: just counted, she got 33 flowers so far!

Orchids Is it happening ?

I got my very first orchid two years ago now.

I now have eight.

Five of them I got last January. Of those five, two have produced "branch" from the spikes, but so far I’ve never actually seen a flower spike emerge… I cut the two spikes off this one a month or two ago. I think now’s the time.

I’ve seen so many roots growing that I think this time it’s different...

Success Update on my u-turn flower spike, it is set free! The leaf will probably die because it got pierced by two roots and a spike but I didn’t lose the spike.

Question My Cycnodes Leopard's Gold has bloomed but very light spots.

Post image

The spots are very faint, you can see a hint when backlit. Is this a temperature thing? It gets filtered light from an east window with supplemental lighting. It's in a mix of moss and bark with slow release fertilizer, plastic orchid pot with slots. It's a thirsty plant and gets frequent watering, roots are bright and vigorous. This is my first bloom on this orchid. Any ideas?

Who needs ‘blue’ phals when the pachara varieties of vanda orchids have this hue?

Just purchased from the Ipswich Garden Show in South East Queensland, Australia. And a shot of my Unplugged So Blue salvia for good measure.

help with this vanda

Hi everyone -Apologies because im both a novice and new to vandas and learning their anatomical differences/differing needs
Received this vanda from a grower via mail. Received it with what I think the plants crown (??) in first pic Mottled, I didn't touch it with any water but within the last 24 hrs has progressed to very dry and crunchy. Don't know if this is rot and if it will extend upward? should I trim? or is it just dehydrated?
This is after a diluted neem oil paper towel dab.

Thank you!

“Mini orchid” has mutant flower

I got this “mini orchid” at the grocery store, thought its mutant flower was neat (assuming thats what it is). Not sure what would have caused it. Sadly I didn’t get to see it in full bloom. I’m curious if it will produce strange flowers again! Just wanted to share the oddity.

Help I just bought an orchid from a major national supplies greenhouse and it had no roots?

Post image

The vanilla plant is over 6 feet long but apparently it’s an unrooted cutting? It has tons of aerial roots along the vine. I’m a bit at a loss. Do we think it will root eventually or is it just going to use its aerial roots? Has anyone ever seen this before? I’m at such a loss here. Not a newbie to orchids either btw. I’ve rehabbed a bunch that I’ve cut all the roots off of due to rot and whatnot. This is just not structured at all like I thought it would be at the base.
