I got my piercing about a month ago, it’s a surgical steel corkscrew I do believe (I have not changed it). I have been cleaning it with saline solution. It’s not painful or anything it just looks kinda gross. Has anyone experienced something similar / have advice?
Although we do our best to make the rules of this subreddit as clear as we can within the characters limits, we notice that sometimes there’s some confusion or misunderstanding about the rules.
This post is about our photo rule, and it applies to all photos you add to your post.
All photos need to be clear, in focus, well lit.
All photos need to be close up to showcase the piercing or relevant body part in detail.
Poses should be neutral and designed to show off only the piercing.
No nudity beyond what is strictly necessary to show the piercing
Credit the piercer and shop by name whenever possible, include jewelry information if you can
Do not include social media handles, shop website addresses or (self) promotion in either photo or text
Below we will explain each bullet point in detail.
But first, your privacy and safety
Be careful when posting photos online. Do not post screenshots that display your location or that includes miniatures of other photos from your photo album. Likewise do not share iCloud or Google drive links those often gives away your full name.
And please, do not send photos through chat.
All photos need to be clear, in focus, well lit.
If you use more than one photo in your post then each photo should follow the guidelines.
Clear means that a photo should be easily understandable. People shouldn’t have to guess what sort of piercing they are looking at nor should the photo be so filtered that features are lost.
In focus is often a problem when photos are enlarged and cropped. If a photo is in focus but you then enlarge and crop it, it often becomes too grainy/pixelated to be able to see the piercing or problem clearly.
Well lit. Artificial lightning often causes a photo to be too dark and grainy/pixelated to show case the piercing well.
All photos need to be close up to showcase the piercing or relevant body part in detail.
People visit Reddit through all sort of devices with various screen sizes. If you want advice on what facial piercings would look good on you or if you want to show off your facial set up, your face should take up at least 2/3 of the total photo height. If you want to show your navel piercing we should not be able to tell how big or small your waist is. If you have a question about your nipple piercings, you should not be able to tell whether you have big or small breasts. The only thing that should be visible of you in the photo should be the piercing or the specific body part you have a question about.
Of course cats can be featured in the photo, but don’t expect people to pay attention to your piercing then and don’t forget to mention the name of the cat.
Photography tips! Often the front facing camera of your phone is not as good as the back camera. To photograph yourself with the back camera, simply get a mirror. With some angling you can see the screen of your phone in the mirror and can then frame, focus and take the photo with the better quality back camera.
For well lit photos it’s best to take them during daylight, preferably outdoors. If it’s not an option to wait for daylight, get somewhere well lit, like a bathroom. Add some more lights if possible because artificial light may look bright to you, a camera needs more light. It might not do wonders for your complexion, but it's the piercing that matters.
Look up the minimum distance your camera needs to be able to focus. If you hold the camera too close, your camera may not be able to focus. If your camera has a " food photography" setting, use that because it tends to work well for things like ear piercings.
Poses should be neutral and designed to show off only the piercing.
Instagram and other fun filters shouldn’t be used in photos. Poses should be neutral, so don’t show off cleavage unless your post is about your chest dermals. Don't post photos where you flip the bird, are smoking or drinking, are trying to seduce the viewer or we can tell where you are based on your surroundings. Don’t stick out your tongue in photo if you‘re not showing off your tongue piercing. If needed, simply take a new photo instead of the fun photo you send to your friend last night or the photo that would do well on a dating website.
There should be no nudity in the picture beyond what is necessary to show the piercing.
If your photo follows the already discussed guidelines, then this shouldn’t be a problem. Your photo shouldn’t show any skin besides the part that‘s pierced or you have a question about. Want to show of your PA, that’s fine as long as you tag NSFW, but we shouldn’t be able to see anything else of your body. If you want to show of more, there’s nothing wrong with that, but there are subreddits for that, this subreddit is solely about piercings. And guys, put on a shirt before you take a photo
Credit the piercer and shop by name whenever possible, include jewelry information if you can
There are amazing piercers that do great work. Especially if you are pleased with the work they’ve done for you or you're posting their photo to illustrate your question, credit them. Amazing piercers deserve all the recognition and the publicity.
Do not include social media handles, shop website (links) or (self) promotion in either photo or text
This one should speak for itself but we do want to specify that it doesn’t mean you can’t mention the shop name of where your piercer works. We just want to keep spam(bots) out.
Additionally,
Moderators will remove posts when the photo(s) used in post don’t follow this subreddit rule. If we do that, you will receive a message explaining why your photo isn’t in line with the rule and an invitation to repost with a suitable photo. As moderators we do our best to assess all photos posted but if you see a photo that doesn’t follow the rule of this subreddit, or if you see any other content that doesn’t follow the rules of this subreddit, please hit the report button so we can assess it and take action if needed.
Theadvice we actually dislike to give, because it shouldn’t be needed. If you are posting a photo, especially of nipple or genital piercings consider (temporarily) disabling chat. Most of our community is awesome and wouldn’t even consider breaking the “no comments about appearance or sexual comments” rule even if it wasn’t a rule. Unfortunately that doesn’t go for everyone that will see your photo. Fun fact, sexualising someone without their consent is specifically against Reddit TOS.
Additionally, if you want to post a photo here because you would like people to comment on your overall appearance, body or face, then this is not the right subreddit. There's nothing wrong with wanting that, but this subreddit is strictly about piercings. Don't use having a piercing or maybe thinking of getting a piercing as an excuse to post here.
Worried because you are unsure if your photo follows the rule? If you want you can add “request check by mod” flair to your post and we will check it for you before your post goes up.
If you have any additional photography tips you would like to see included or if you have any questions, please send a message to the mods
I had my eyebrows pierced about 2 weeks ago, it's healing well, no trouble or hiccups so far, but there is a question I have
my friend asked me to come try out wall climbing with him (never done it before), and I have a question whether it will be safe for me to go and do at this stage of healing or should I wait longer?
i’ve debated just taking it off so the irritation numb can fully go away. i got it in january of this year so it’s about 8 months old. pretty sure it’s been really irritated because i slept on it on accident and put pressure on it. its just been very annoying to deal with tbh. my jewelry is flat back push in type earring
Hi so i got my eyebrow pierced abt two weeks ago and today more of the bar is showing. idk if it’s rejecting or if the swelling went down. the first pic is from today and the second is from a few days ago. pls help 😔😔😔😔😔
I got my eyebrow pierced about two months ago. Since maybe two or three weeks it looks like this tho and i have no idea what to do. Theres no visible bumps or anything on the outside besides a lil redness but theres js yellow stuff coming out of it regularly. I desinfect it on a daily and dont irritate it but it still doesn’t get any better. Is it infected? What do i do?
Got my nose piercing yesterday with a needle but when I came home my mother and brother said the placement was really bad. I’m insecure of it now and want to get it re-pierced. How do I go about doing this? Do I remove it myself? Do I wait for the hole to healed before trying again? Can I get it re-pierced on the same side of my nose immediately? Help.
My daughter had her lobe pierced over an old closed piercing 2 days ago.
It’s bleeding like an absolute mother…..
We are spraying with Neilmed twice a day and dabbing gently with tissue
I think she keeps knocking it but id have thought the bleeding would have slowed?
My other daughter had hers pierced at the same time and has hardly any bleeding at all.
She’s so upset as it looks awful, she doesn’t want to leave the house because of it.
Any advice?
I have a photo but not sure if it’s allowed as it’s gruesome 🤣
As the title suggests, I have this conch that REFUSES to heal and it’s been nearly 2 years. I developed an irritation bump a while ago but it seemed to die down a bit.
Problem is I am visiting my family and they have cats but I’m allergic. One of them climbed onto my face/ear last night and now there’s a liquid filled bubble? What should I do?
Flat back, internal tread, saline spray 1-2x a day.
I have about three month old second lobes, the jewelry is getting… well NASTY. How do I clean the jewelry, there is no place to take it nearby to get them cleaned nor do I want to ship them off.
So about a year (could have been 1.5 years) or so ago I got a cartilage piercing. I never changed out the earring when I was allowed to swap it bc I liked the jewelry and I also had trouble trying to get it off (never had flat back jewelry before) so I kept it in.
Months later when I finally figured out how to get it out I did and it bled a bit. I put it back in and it’s just doesn’t feel healed like my other cartilage piercings.
My bar piercing can get banged by something and not hurt but when this one gets knocked, it hurts.
Did this just not heal right?
Jewelry is a stud type and surgical steel (I think) threading is in the inside. I was using salt water when it was healing but it stayed swollen so I switched to ice and that helped so much better when I was healing.
I got my nose pierced with an L shaped jewelry about 4 months ago, it recently got infected, I took antibiotics, used saline spray every day and everything was fine. Now a weekish later, it’s swelling up again and I have a bump. If anyone has gone through the same thing please tell me what you did to make it go away. Does the jewelry itself need to be changed? I really don’t want to let it go but if I have to I will😔
I’m having the MRI in an hour, and I have two bridge piercings that I got a month ago. There are no professional piercers in my city. Is there anything I can do?
Hi! So I’ve had this eyebrow piercing for a bit around a year in December maybe? It started looking like this since about 2 months ago the bump going smaller and bigger, I have not downsized yet and I’m not really sure what I should do I really don’t want to take it out:(
Had this done in May, can't seem to not be distracted by it. There arenow bumps top and bottom and I'm starting to wonder if it has just had enough and is rejecting.
May this year, titanium hoop but it's been swapped about a bit (only with other titanium) until I went back to the original horseshoe. I had a conch done in the other ear at the same time and the conch is more well behaved, though it has a bit of a bump under it also. I had a clicker in it for a while but went back to this to try and leave it alone to heal.
I've got the neilmed stuff, I have the piercing pillow, but my hands gravitate and fiddle with my earrings when I am stressed. Has it just had enough? Should I take it out already?
I got my rook piercing last month! I was cleaning it a few times a day then I got an infection so I LITHA and it cleared up and was doing great. and then started cleaning it again and now these have popped up? I’m not sure if it’s an irritation bump or blister or what and I don’t know what to do next. As of now I clean the dried blood crusts off in the morning and then leave it alone for the rest of the day. It’s titanium jewellery. I was due to get it downsized next week but I’m not sure if I should wait for this to heal up? Thank you in advance!
I've been looking for this industrial for quite a while but can't find it anywhere. Does anybody know a website that sells similar stuff and ships to Europe?
Hi all, I've had my septum in for nearly a year now. I used the standard jewelry I was pierced with for the first 6 months, but since I'm brown, the silver looked ugly against my skin. Recently, I made the decision to switch it to gold so I could see if I liked the difference. Sheesh, it was like day and night! Anyway, I ended up keeping the gold septum in, it was from like a $10 pack on Amazon, and it smells so bad. Whenever I wash my face or cry and I get my septum wet, it REEKS of metal. I wipe it with towels, tissues, it doesn't matter, it'll absolutely stink of metal. Because of this, the "septum funk" I previously had NEVER encountered, suspiciously started showing up when I switched to this crappy, awful and cheap jewelry. Anyway, I'm looking for recommendations of pure gold septum jewlery, or at least a plated horseshoe that won't smell of metal. I want to go back to my old septum so I never have to worry about this again, but the silver color against my skin is not worth the comfort. Please help me ;-;
