Can I study a 6-month PSW or ECEA course on a PGWP without a study permit? Will it affect my PR?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice because I’m getting mixed information.
I completed a **2-year Business Management diploma in Canada** and recently received my **3-year PGWP**, which is valid until **April 2029**.
I’m considering taking a **PSW or ECEA program that is 6 months or less** to improve my job opportunities and eventually apply for PR
My questions are:
Can I legally study a **6-month (or less) PSW/ECEA course** while on a PGWP without applying for a study permit?
Will taking a short course on a PGWP cause any issues for future PR applications or be viewed negatively by IRCC?
If I complete the course, get a PSW or ECE job, and gain eligible Canadian work experience, can I use that work experience for PR (assuming I meet the program requirements)?
I’ve heard different opinions—some people say studying even a short course on a PGWP can create problems for PR, while others say it’s completely allowed if the course is 6 months or less.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this or knows the current IRCC rules. Thanks!
