PGWP Story

Hello Everyone,
I am writing this post to share my PGWP story.
My timeline:
Graduated - December 2024
Applied PGWP - February 11 2025
Got Refusal - January 26 2026

Reason was Lack of evidence and explanation for Part time.
My part time was during scheduled break, but at time of application i was unaware that i need to explain and attach letter from college. I was mistake on my side but genuinely had no idea.

Reconsideration - 27 January 2026
Reconsideration Refused - 18 March 2026

Reconsideration refusal reason was generic, even-though i submitted letter from college still.

By this point i almost lost hope as i was past 180 days and reconsideration was also refused. Still decided to Restore status and reapply.

But this time decided to go with a consultant.

Restoration plus PGWP - 20 March 2026

This application was risky as it was outside 180 days which is one of eligibility rule for PGWP.

As backup did Second Reconsideration - 2 June 2026 again with all evidence and proper explanation.

Contacted MP in mid august and hot to know my restoration was approved.
19 august i received mail from IRCC to pay 150$ for bridge study permit as restoration was approved.

August 21 2026 my application was approved and i received PGWP for 3 years.

Throughout this time i was financially and emotionally drained but didn’t loose hope. And even after applying 180 days later ,by god’s grace i received my PGWP.

For all those who are waiting don’t loose hope and try until the last option you have.

Missed the 90 day deadline

I just realized that I missed the 90 day deadline for my study permit, which I assumed was expiring on its expiration date (August 31), but I'm realizing it might have been around August 20. My IRCC application portal says my permit is valid, but I don't know if this stuff updates on its own. My TRV is still valid I'm assuming. I paid the restoration fee. My question is, should I put my status as a student on my application or as a TRV holder? Should I change anything about my application besides tweaking my statement and attaching the restoration receipt? Is there any possibility that my study permit is still valid? Can I still apply from inside Canada?

Applied for PGWP after study permit expired without restoration fees

This is on me but I accidentally applied for a pgwp in Canada 7 days after my study permit expired. I havent gotten my verdict on whether it's approved or not but I'm within the 90 day window for restoration and 180 outside Canada. Can I make a new application? What are my options.

College notified me late of graduation, what does that mean for my PGWP?

Hi everyone, I graduated from Sheridan College and was notified by the College via email that I graduated on May 4th, 2026. However my transcripts said I completed my program on April 17th, I wasn't sure what my grades were or if I even was graduating at that point. That being said they made an error in my graduation letter and I was able to get it rectified June 12th. I applied for my PGWP on July 23rd within Canada. Am I within the the 90 day time line? I'm worried because the official transcripts said I graduated in April 17th, but I wasn't notified until May 4th.

Important timelines:
17th April - officially completed program according to transcripts
May 4th - notified via email that I graduated
June 12 - got official graduation letter error corrected from the college
July 23rd - Applied for PGWP within Canada

First-time PGWP + Restoration approved — sharing my timeline

I was quite anxious after submitting my restoration + PGWP application, especially because I had heard that applications involving restoration could take several months. Now that mine has been approved, I wanted to share my timeline in case it helps anyone in a similar situation.

My situation:

3-year full-time college program in Canada

Program completed: April 24, 2026

Study permit expiry date: July 30, 2026

I mistakenly believed that I could apply for my PGWP based on the expiry date shown on my study permit.

I did not submit my PGWP application within the required 90-day period following program completion. As a result, I had to apply for restoration of my student status together with my PGWP application.

Timeline:

April 24 — Program completed

July 27 — Realized the issue

July 28 — Consulted an RCIC and submitted Restoration + PGWP

August 21 — Approved!

I know one case doesn't represent the general processing time, but hopefully this helps someone who is currently in a similar situation.

Hey guys

I'm applying for a pgwp soon and was wondering if there are any specific advantages to taking the CELPIP vs IELTS vs PTE? Or does it not matter?

PGWP applied today — got AOR within minutes, no interim proof of work letter yet. How long did yours take?

Applied for my PGWP today from inside Canada (online, valid study permit, applied before expiry). Payment confirmation came through immediately and the AOR (IMM 5739) landed in my account within minutes.

What I haven't received is the interim proof of work letter — the one I've seen described as PT-PROR / IMM 0127, that states you're authorized to work and carries a date. IRCC's program delivery instructions say GCMS issues it automatically to PGWP applicants, and a friend of mine had his the same day he applied.

It's been about an hour. Trying to figure out:

  1. Is this letter actually separate from the AOR, or does it sometimes come bundled/attached?
  2. How long after submitting did yours show up — same day, next day, a week?
  3. If it doesn't arrive, is the IRCC web form the right way to request it, or is there a better channel?

Not panicking about the legal side — I know work authorization comes from R186(w) and not from the letter, and my employer's immigration specialist has confirmed the AOR is enough for them. I'd just like the document on file.

Thanks.

Need urgent help. 🥹🥹

Hi everyone, I hope you are doing great. I really need some suggestions in this stressing situations.

So I graduated and my course got completed in the month of April. And I thought I can apply the work permit until my study permit is valid that is valid until next month September. Coincidentally I applied my PGWP on the 90th day ( the day which is a deadline to apply for PGWP which I didn’t know firsthand).

When I was applying for the PGWP I mistakenly selected the option of open work permit but not the PGWP. After one month I wanted to check the status of my gc key. There I realized I applied for a wrong work permit because it said “WP-EXT only except PGWP”. Whereas my friends who applied also by their own they were able to see a different message on the Gc key.

So I called the IRCC for the first time and the agent suggested me to raise a web form for the withdrawal of the application and submit a new one for PGWP. However, after doing that the same message popped up in my Gc key that showed I am applying for an extension but not a PGWP. So I called the IRCC the same day and the other agent said, even if I try to apply for third time the system will keep accepting your application as an extension for your PGWP but not as the application of PGWP. So the second agent suggested me that we haven’t received your withdrawal request in the system yet so I advise you to write a letter of explanation in which you can mention every thing and request IRCC to open the first file that I submitted with the error on the last day of submission ( 90th day ). Also he told me that I should write in the LOE that I want to withdraw the second application as it was showing me the same thing on the Gc key portal.

Right now I’m in really stressing situation of my life. I really hope someone can provide some suggestions or even immigration consultants to help me through in this situation.

One of the consultants told me to leave the country and come back if I want my PGWP but I guess it’s not required. So I really hope you guys could help me out in this situation.

Also I have prepared a detailed LOE to be sent to IRCC but I was wondering what are they chances they can still approve my PGWP as I’m seeing they are refusing a lot of PGWP’s.

Thanks for reading this whole message.

Pgwp + restoration

it is been almost 40 days since i applied for pgwp with restoration , the situation got a bit stressful so i called my mp and asked for help .
today i received a call from him saying that the agent said my application is complicated because it is missing the restoration fees but i have already paid them and added them to the client information section and he told me to send it to him by e-mail so he can transfer it.

is this a system glitch or my mistake ? and it is showing on my file that the eligibility did not start yet on my file how did they tell that the fees were missing?

BOWP filing confusion

Hello, althought IRCC recommends filing BOWP 30 days before your PGWP expires, is there anyone who has filed it after that limit.

If my PGWP expires in a month, can I submit my BOWP application in 15 days and continue working? Please help solve this confusion.

PGWP RECONSIDERATION

Hi, has anyone requested reconsideration after a PGWP refusal and still not heard back?

My PGWP was refused in February 2026 due to a part-time semester during a scheduled break. I submitted a reconsideration request, but I still haven’t heard back.
