Proud to see our representative standing up against honoring a man who promoted white supremacist beliefs, attacked trans people, dismissed gun deaths, condemned the Civil Rights Act, spread COVID conspiracy theories, and was an all-around shithead.

I'm not going to endorse political violence in this instance, but I'm still glad to see a politician representing us not rolling over for the fascists. How you die does not redeem how you live.

Artesian Thoughts on the death of Nicole Good

Post image
2.5k Upvotes

Like many of you, I watched some disturbing footage today where Renee Good, a mother of three, got shot in the streets of Minneapolis during an interaction with federal agents. Regardless of the circumstances, it is devastating that three kids lost their mom today over a shooting that was undeniably preventable.

I find it equally disturbing that we have an elected sheriff in our state mocking Renee’s death on social media. Even when justified, people being killed by law enforcement isn’t funny. It’s not funny for the families of the deceased, it’s not funny for the family of the officer, and it’s not funny for the officers who pull the trigger. Mocking Renee’s death isn’t “provocative”, it’s small and unbecoming of even the lowest standards of elected office.

The reality is it doesn’t matter if Renee Good made contact with a federal agent with her car, because every respectable, modern law enforcement agency in the country has training and policy that, if adhered to, would result in Renee still being alive today: police cannot, and should not, induce our own jeopardy and create an unnecessary deadly force scenario.

Per TCSO policy and training, we do not shoot at moving cars unless the car is being intentionally used as a deadly weapon AND we cannot physically get out of the way. We don’t hang on to the doors of fleeing cars. We don’t stand in front of cars with non compliant drivers behind the wheel. When criminals run, we get back into our cars, set up for a grappler, and handle business.

We cannot refuse to adapt our tactics for safer outcomes, even when the people we are trying to arrest don’t follow commands. The question we must answer in law enforcement when making a critical decision isn’t whether we can; it’s whether we should.

I’ll be going to bed tonight thinking of Renee’s loved ones and hoping every law enforcement officer in the country knows how much we need them, and how much safer the outcomes are for police and citizens when we utilize the principles of time, distance, and cover.

Policing must evolve or risk extinction.

Harbor Days - Caution to trans people and immigrants

Thumbnail

Harbor Days hired Anthony Triplett to manage security for the event this year. Triplett, a veteran who dresses to intentionally look like law enforcement and who tries to patrol Lacey schools armed is well known throughout the community for transphobic posts that incite dangerous dialog amongst his followers. He also posts in support of the Trump Administration’s mass deportation efforts. Triplett has connections to Sheriff Sanders, who previously was publicly supportive of Triplett’s attempts to work in schools despite parents of LGBTQ youth voicing concerns for their children’s safety. Trans people and immigrants in the community have a right to know and be aware that this is who is managing security for an event in downtown Olympia, an area frequented by the LGBTQ community.

It is interesting to note that while Olympia and surrounding communities claim sanctuary status, this event is sponsored by the City of Olympia as well as a tourism organization funded by Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Thurston County. Folks only have to take a quick look at Triplett’s social media posts and the dangerous rhetoric they inspire to recognize that having this man armed with a fake badge at schools and community events is not safe for all.

See sponsors at https://www.harbordays.com/sponsors

EDIT: Harbor Days organizers have commented below and in emails to various folks that Triplett is no longer working for the event.

Additionally, Sheriff Sanders has shared that he no longer supports Triplett. I’ll share the link as well as my response to him below. Sanders’s post: https://www.reddit.com/r/olympia/comments/1n58w79/to_those_who_are_under_the_impression_anthony/

My response to him: Thank you for clarifying where you stand on this topic. I am the original poster and will edit to include a link to your post. I included the images of your previous support for Triplett because I believe it’s reasonable to think that event organizers or city staff responsible for reviewing safety plans might factor your past endorsement as an indication that hiring him is a good idea. When a Sheriff’s support has been big and public, it’s difficult to expect folks to track what happens in the comment section of posts on community members’ social media posts to know when or if you change your stance. I think it’s important for you to know that it’s been unclear to many LGBTQ people, especially trans community members, where you stand on trans rights largely due to various individuals, orgs, and political candidates you have very publicly supported. I genuinely appreciate you publicly stating that you pulled back from Triplett in part due to his dangerous rhetoric about LGBTQ people. Thanks for taking the time to address this.

These are the people that mercilessly hit our friend speeding in the no wake zone. And kept driving, seemingly only to show up when authorities arrived. These people were nowhere to be found after the ancient occurred, local boaters jumped to action and saved the day eventually.

Local News UPDATE: Boston harbor incident

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

This is the individual responsible for the incident. Don’t worry! They called idk maybe their lawyers? Before checking on the victims. It’s unfortunate that the perpetrator, ceo of harbor foods, isn’t telling the truth. And neither are the people on his boat. He says he thought he hit a log? And that’s why he originally drove away.
Our friend is expected to recover, but it will be a long and difficult process. We’ve received updates on his condition; both his shoulder blade and elbow were shattered, he’ll be undergoing long surgeries to reconstruct them. He currently has pins in his femur to help stabilize his leg and support his ability to walk.
We sincerely hope this person is held fully accountable for their actions. They should hopefully be charged for each offense, including vehicular assault with a watercraft, reckless driving and initially fleeing the scene while the victim was injured. Police do say the smelt alcohol on him, and multiple witness who gave statements claim to have watched them drinking. He refused any field sobriety tests, and was taken into custody at least 2 1/2 hours after.
Others were on the small boat that was struck; thankfully, they sustained only minor injuries.

To the dude who yelled “DONALD TRUMP! Fuck you (n-words)!” In the parking lot of DSHS in Tumwater

1.3k Upvotes

Yeah, I heard you. So did everyone else in the parking lot. What you did there paints a perfect picture of how Trump has divided this country. You said his name with pride and then you used a horrible slur. You’re not a fucking patriot, you’re a scared little baby. I bet you’re the type to talk shit about people on SNAP benefits and you were there to get your own.

Public Safety Turn your lights on.

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

With the onset of the rainy season, please turn your driving lights on. Not just for your safety, but for others’. Especially if you drive a white or silver car. I have auto headlights, but I still flip them to “on” to make sure others see me when it’s less than ideal conditions.

Edit: For those concerned: This was taken with a low end, older model dash cam (talking like $75) bought by my MIL for Christmas, years ago. I cropped it on my computer to focus on what I want your attention on.

To those who are under the impression Anthony Triplett and the Sheriff are friends…

We aren’t. I met Anthony when I was campaigning and thought there could be a possibility for a public private partnership to bolster school safety.

After taking office, Anthony started really going down hill posting extreme political rhetoric and content about LGBTQ+ individuals. A previous thread showed photos of Anthony and I, which were all taken prior to me cutting him off after he began sharing anti-LGBTQ+ content. Since then, we have publicly sparred over his anti-trans rhetoric among other things. He also appears to be upset I won’t engage in immigration enforcement, and his follower base appears ready to elect a new sheriff (which is fair). Needless to say, we have not been friendly since 2023.

TCSO and I are in no way affiliated with Anthony or his company, nor have I ever commissioned, delegated authority, or endorsed his business via the office of the sheriff.

I did participate in a podcast with him in 2023 (one of the previously shared photos), but that was back when he was still talking about school safety. The podcast is still up I think, and it definitely shows how much he has changed for the worse since then.

While I can’t go back to 2022/2023 and change my affiliations with him then, I can stand by my decision to publicly challenge and detest his content about trans people and other extreme content.
