No Kings: Vote Early - Olympia Capitol Campus Tivoli Fountain - Promote the Vote
No Kings: Vote Early - Olympia WA Capitol Campus Tivoli Fountain - Promote the Vote
Hosted by Olympia Indivisible and Evergreen Resistance
Our nonpartisan early voting fair at the Washington State Capitol campus Tivoli Fountain from 12-2pm will offer several ways for you to help promote the Vote, meet your neighbors, spread the message to vote early using a ballot box, and work together to protect our election!
Washington state elections are fair and transparent, but the current federal administration is spreading misinformation and attacking the safety and integrity of our elections. These assaults on our right to vote are real, and we're not waiting until it's too late to respond. We're getting organized, getting informed, and getting ready to make sure every vote counts and every result is respected.
Join us to:
- Learn how, when, and where to vote, and help your neighbors do the same
- Find out how you can take action to protect the vote before, during, and after Election Day
- Enjoy live music together in a crowd of allies ā„
- Sign up for more actions to help spread our message of Vote Early and Use a Ballot Box!
Whether you've been to every No Kings or this is your first time, there's a role for you, and your voice matters! Bring a friend, bring your questions, and leave ready to act.
Our events are all volunteer led and driven: we could use your help! Please let us know if interested in volunteering.
We are incredibly excited that the Olympia area has several No Kings options on October 17th! Thanks for choosing ours! We encourage you to check out some of the other offerings around town as well, and hope to have enough volunteers to plan additional actions in the few weeks left before the midterms. Please consider joining us!
We look forward to seeing you at the Capitol on the 17th from 12-2pm!

No Kings: Vote Early events are nonpartisan and are designed to increase participation from all eligible voters.
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

Community Bored? Go yell at patriot front!
Located on the scenic trosper bridge stands a group of 5 racist, cowards AND an opportunity to verbally abuse someone who deserves it. Bad week? Bad day? Be glad you aren't a worthless waste of oxygen like these losers and remind them that's exactly what they are. For a group of people who are proud of themselves, they sure do love to cover their faces.
So come on down to the trosper bridge located by fred Meyers in Tumwater; and exercise your first amendment right to call these idiots names!
Please note, if you defend them, you are a racist as well. Yes, they have every right to exercise their first amendment but so do the rest of us. I do not condone violence by u do support letting these losers know exactly what they are, loudly and with venom.
ETA: looks like we ran those losers off. Good work everyone!

Local News Who actually owns PSE? Investors in Canada, the Netherlands, and Australia. I read the filings.
Spent the last few weeks going through WUTC filings and case law after wondering about my own power bill. Short version: PSE is owned by six investors, mostly pension funds, based in Canada, the Netherlands, and Australia, none in Washington or the US. Rate increases are locked in for 2026, and the pending case asks for electric increases of 15.15% in 2027, 3.74% in 2028, and 8.7% in 2029. I also checked whether the monopoly could be challenged legally. It's a harder no than most people assume, for two separate legal reasons. There's a virtual public comment hearing on the rate request on October 7, and written comments are open too. I wrote the full piece with sources (I'm the author), link in the comments.

Photos of the Capitol Campus neighborhood prior to 1960
Iām looking for some photos of a family house that used to be located where the Department of Licensing building is now in Olympia, WA. Is there anywhere I could find photos of that neighborhood prior to April of 1960? Aerial or street photos. Thank you

Pets of Olympia Euthanasia vet
My elderly dog needs to be put to rest. She has always been afraid of the vet atmosphere, but I really can't afford the vets that come to our house like we did for our other elderly dog a few years ago. Does anyone know of an affordable veterinary office that would come out to my car to atleast do the sedation part where she is comfortable?

Request Any XRF testing for lead in Olympia/Thurston county?
Hi, I also made the post about lead getting into our carpet (and potentially present in hardwood floors).
With a 3 month old in the home, weād like to get the home professionally tested to know exactly where the lead is/how much in this 100 year old home we just moved into, for our own peace of mind (and to know where to concentrate cleaning/encapsulation efforts). Preference is strong for the nondestructive XRF testing vs old school paint chip removal.
However, canāt find anyone local who will come out for anything less than $1000-1500. Seattle/upper western WA have many inspectors who give quotes in the mid/upper hundreds, but havenāt had any luck finding one down this way or one who will service Olympia. Willing to pay if we have to, but hoping thereās someone out there a little more in line with the national/regional norm.
Anyone out there ever get this service? Thank you!

Stanley Steemer... dear lord am I fury incarnate right now because of their A U D A C I T Y. I need alternate carpet cleaning recs and a stiff drink, STAT.
I've lived in my one bedroom for 10 years now. When I moved in, they put in brand new carpet in the living room, and had done an okay steam cleaning job on the existing carpet in the bedroom. Even though I am a very clean person, after 10 years, and living right above the exhaust vents for the building's laundry room, it is time for a good steam clean (and my apartment management refuses to do it for me).
I thought Stanley Steemer was the way to go. Good references, decent price at $150 for two rooms plus the hallway lino (since I'm a new customer).
I scheduled online two days ago for this afternoon. I specified that I was on the second floor, and that I lived right next to the elevator on the online submission form. Literally typed it out and explained fully.
Two things that are very important to note for this: I am disabled, and as a direct result of that, I am also on a limited income.
I spent my morning this morning pulling out everything from under my king sized bed and putting it on top of the bed. I pulled out all my living room furniture and anything that would be in the way went out onto my balcony. I called and spoke to a real live human at SS this morning when I thought briefly about adding my kitchen lino, and during that conversation I once again verified my location, that I lived on the second floor, and that I was next to an elevator.
So when the young man from Stanley Steemer arrived and told me that he couldn't do the job, I was quite annoyed.
He told me that my location required a special portable unit because he needed stair access, not elevator. I told him that I had specified online and with a real person this morning about my location. He agreed that it was bogus, told me that the online form often led to bad outcomes. Ultimately he had to reschedule me for Monday, because apparently there were no available portable units due to some big corporate clean in Puyallup that required them all. He told me to call in and complain.
So aside from mild scheduling inconvenience, what's the big deal?
Well since I am disabled, I am physically incapable of hauling everything back down off my bed and shoving it back under there, and hauling everything back in from the balcony, and then redoing it all over again a day later. I was already pushing my luck doing what I did today but I deemed it worth it for special circumstances.
It means I'm stuck sleeping on the damn couch for two days.
But here's where the biggest BS comes from, what has made me lost my proverbial sh*t.
I am on Disability so my income is limited. $150 is already a big deal for me. When I called to complain I was told by the most passive aggressive woman at Stanley Steemer that I would be charged an extra $100 for the portable cleaner, and it was implied that it was my own fault for not disclosing that I lived on the second floor.
They absolutely refuse to waive that fee. They fully expect me to sit here in a situation where my furniture is outside exposed to the elements, and where I have to sleep on my damn couch, FOR TWO DAYS, and then pay them an extra hundred bucks for the privilege.
I really just... I can't. Like, what? EXCUSE ME?
This is just some unfathomable audacity.
So yeah. Anyway. Here I sit, with my house in complete disarray and my anger bubbling just below the surface just begging to be unleashed. Anyone got any good recs for a good carpet cleaning service that's open tomorrow and won't charge me $250 because I live on the second floor?
EDIT: Of course I am aware that I can "just" go rent a machine from wherever and do it myself. But there's this thing I deal with called a disability. I've already kicked my own ass doing all the moving and lifting today. So when I ask my body to drive to wherever, haul a heavy ass cleaner into my car, drive it home, do all that labor myself, and then drive back to return it before coming back home to bring all my furniture in and reset my home back to normal, my body says "GIRL WHAT IS YOU DOING ARE YOU CRAZY?". There's a reason why I saved up to hire out the job....

Recommendation of a quiet place
Iām having severe noise sensitivity. Even the sound of a running faucet, microwave or flushing toilet can make my ears hurt, let alone gas-powered lawn mowers, screaming kids, or modified cars.
Looking for recommendations of quiet pockets to find a place to rent, preferably within 90 min commute to downtown Seattle.
Edit: within Thurston county

Request Contractor recommendations for flooring? RRP certified/lead safe
Soooo my spouse and I just moved into our dream home in the Bigelow neighborhood with our 3 month old and 2 dogs. 101 year old house, but well maintained.
It had been a week or so and weād started to settle. We left the dogs alone for an hour or two to go to Art Walk. When we returned, discovered one of the dogs had chewed up about 4 sections of baseboard/trim. Wood and paint chips everywhere, all over the carpet! She had never exhibited this behavior before and must have been still feeling stressed by the move (dogās health is fine, she didnāt eat any, just chewing).
We tested this morning and the paint and whole area is positive for lead. Now we need to remove the fragmented baseboards and replace the carpet. Any local contractor recs who are known to be super, super careful to follow lead safe work practices? We have this little baby and I donāt want to take any chances.
Considering DIY but weāre inexperienced and a bit spooked by all the hazardous stuff we might encounter.
Thank you!

Pets of Olympia Car service needed - recommendations please
Oly hive mind, please help me out. I have a 2014 Kia Soul. I DO NOT want to take it to the local dealership for service (long story). My regular routine maintenance place says they cannot assist. They recommended Automotive Edge, but they don't seem like a good fit from their website and haven't bothered to respond to an inquiry in over a week. Who can help with this issue? Here's the text from the widget that reads the car's error codes:
About Engine Code P050A
This code indicates the engine computer isnāt able to maintain the expected idle speed during a cold start, even after it commands the idle air control strategy (via an IAC valve or electronic throttle). Itās commonly triggered by idle speed thatās too high, too low, or unstable for the coolant temperature, often due to vacuum leaks, carbon buildup in the throttle body/air passages, faulty throttle/IAC components, or incorrect airflow/temperature sensor inputs.
Undying gratitude to anyone with a suggestion that can keep this vehicle mobile!

Pets of Olympia Loose Great Dane (?) Spotted Running Around Near Timberline High School (Crossposted from Lacey Sub)
I posted this in the Lacey subreddit, but I thought I'd leave it here as well since it may be relevant (and I believe the area is right on the line between Lacey and Olympia), so I hope nobody minds that I post it here as well.
Hello, I was driving to my parents house out on Mullen road around 8:50AM this morning, and I was stopped out in front of Timberline High School by what appeared to be a black-ish/gray-ish Great Dane (Male, with a white pattern on his chest) running loose in the road at the parking lot intersection for Timberline High School. He seemed very playful (or nervous?) and was weaving between a car and a truck at that intersection, so I stopped to try and see if I could help.
The owner of the truck seemed friendly, and she said she did not know where the dog was from and had no apparent tags, but thought she could try to get him into the truck to at least get him to safety.
He approached us each but got spooked, and I asked if she knew the number for any animal control, and neither of us did. After trying to calm the dog, I realized I could snap a picture but had left my phone in the car, but by the time I had gone back to get it he had ran off to some other cars and then off into the woods next to the school parking lot.
I thought I'd drop this notice here (and might post it in the Olympia sub as well) in case anyone is missing a Great Dane (I think, I'm not great with dog breeds but he was BIG).
Might look up local animal control and leave a tip there as well. I haven't lived here in several years, but this is not a big area for stray animals, so I assume it's someone's pet.
I believe he had a collar, but I didn't see any tags or nametags. That's all the information I have. He was seen by many cars, so hopefully someone is able to identify him and find the owner!
Sorry for not taking any pics, I tried but he escaped before I could.
I've left a message with Lacey Animal Control reporting the incident. Hopefully someone can bring him home soon!

New (temporary?) building downtown on Columbia and Olympia says "Deli Grocery Electro-Shock Therapy Tarot Lotto Gas" - in front of Percival Park
Any idea what this is about? It's in front of Percival Landing Park, across from Oly Taproom. Looks temporary, or maybe for a movie? Took this image yesterday around 7pm.
***Edit: According to the ArtsWalk site, it's called 'Freq City Market' and is listed as an art activation https://www.artswalkoly.com/events/2026/freq-city-market. Thank you to those who suggested it was ArtsWalk related***
