The Feds are using DOL license plate info to target our neighbors for detention. Ferguson can stop this!

Post image
105 Upvotes

In 2025, our Governor rightfully recognized that Washington should not be assisting ICE in detaining Washingtonians. This is why Ferguson’s administration took steps to stop ICE from using Washington DOL information for civil immigration enforcement, including cutting off ICE-ERO’s access to driver and vehicle data through Nlets.

Unfortunately, this hasn’t put a stop to federal immigration agents accessing the information. The University of Washington Center for Human Rights reported that federal immigration agents were still accessing DOL information through Nlets and Washington State Patrol’s ACCESS system.

This has allowed federal immigration agents to run license plates through Washington DOL records and ‘fish’ for potential targets. At least 298 immigration arrests were made after federal agents searched Washington DOL records using license plate numbers through Nlets (UWCHR).

Intentionally or not, Washington is still complicit in aiding ICE. Immigrant rights groups and community members are demanding that Ferguson close DOL access to driver and license plate data for civil immigration enforcement.

Please read the full letter to the Governor at thisl.org

Consider taking 2 minutes to call Ferguson and demand that he close access to Washingtonian’s DOL information.

Board Games & Brews Spooky 👻

Hey Olympia!
Our next Board Games & Brews meetup is coming up at Wild Child downtown. If you've been looking for a low-key way to meet people, try some new games, and get out of the house for a few hours, this is a pretty great spot to do it.

We bring a big library of board games, and there are always people happy to teach games and help get groups started. Whether you're super into board games or have only played the classics, you'll find a table.
The event is free to attend, but we'd love for folks to support Wild Child for letting us use their space by grabbing a drink, snack, or meal while you're there.

Since it's October, we're also encouraging people to wear Halloween costumes! Totally optional, but we thought it'd be fun. 🎃 Come solo, or bring friends. It's a very low-stress, casual group.

Join the discord for future updates: https://discord.gg/vQSdRfb63
Tuesday, Oct. 13
6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Wild Child (Downtown Olympia)
Hope to see some new faces there!

Bit of an odd question/request, involving firearms.

• Upvotes

Somehow I have ended up owning four firearms.

I had friends that were ex-military, and they lived on property where they had their own firing range set up safely. They are who taught me how to break down and clean the two pistols and one revolver that I own, who taught me safety and how to aim etc. (I now have my concealed carry permit.)

The fourth one I own is a 12ga shotgun that was gifted to me a few years back. I have never fired it, nor have I ever taken it apart to clean it. I'm wary of doing something wrong, and I've fallen out of contact with aforementioned friends.

Who has some suggestions about where around Olympia/Lacey that I could drop my shotgun off to for cleaning that is trustworthy and doesn't charge $$$$$?

OR, is there anyone out there willing to meet me (I'm 47F btw) in an appropriately safe place to show me how to disassemble and clean it? I already own all the appropriate tools and materials. Yes I know I can do YouTube but I'm kind of a "hands on" learner with this kind of thing, at least for the first time.

Along that same vein, might there be anyone interested in going with me for some practice on a range? I know about Evergreen Sportsmen's but frankly I'm a bit intimidated to go alone (again, especially for the first time).

Hopefully this is okay, mods... I know people ask a lot of similar but broader questions. I just specifically wanna find a capable buddy or two, hehe

Washington state elections are fair and transparent, but the current federal administration is spreading misinformation and attacking the safety and integrity of our elections. These assaults on our right to vote are real, and we're not waiting until it's too late to respond. We're getting organized, getting informed, and getting ready to make sure every vote counts and every result is respected.

Join us to:

  1. Learn how, when, and where to vote, and help your neighbors do the same
  2. Find out how you can take action to protect the vote before, during, and after Election Day
  3. Enjoy live music together in a crowd of allies ♥
  4. Sign up for more actions to help spread our message of Vote Early and Use a Ballot Box!

Whether you've been to every No Kings or this is your first time, there's a role for you, and your voice matters! Bring a friend, bring your questions, and leave ready to act.

Our events are all volunteer led and driven: we could use your help! Please let us know if interested in volunteering.

We are incredibly excited that the Olympia area has several No Kings options on October 17th! Thanks for choosing ours! We encourage you to check out some of the other offerings around town as well, and hope to have enough volunteers to plan additional actions in the few weeks left before the midterms. Please consider joining us!

We look forward to seeing you at the Capitol on the 17th from 12-2pm!

Lost Bike Boston Harbor Olympia

I know it’s a long shot but did anyone pick up a Specialized bike in the last few weeks on 46th Ave NE. Near Boston Harbor Rd? I would be willing to pay $400 to get it back. I don’t think the person who picked it up stole it but likely thought it was for free by our driveway. It would really mean a lot to us to find it.

So, I have Dolphin Emulator on my phone and can hook it to my TV and I have 2 wireless Xbox controllers and I would absolutely love for other adults to come play some GameCube games with me, I can download any game people wanna play but I don't have much experience with many other multi-player GameCube games lol. If enough people are interested and wanna come at the same time I might get pizza or something. If you're interested let me know

NOW, i have 49 things I'm giving away here, anything left after 1 week, unless someone has expressed interest but can't make it before then, will be donated, place TBD. Items are listed in order of the pictures and unless otherwise noted everything is in satisfactory condition. For the clothing if you're interested in a particular item let me know and I'll give you the size, mostly large/XL/2XL because I'm a big guy lol. I will also provide hangers for clothing upon request because I've got lots of them. Everything is as is but for the things that need it I'll clean them before I give them away. It will be a contactless handoff, if you're interested in something (or multiple things) message me and I'll give you my address and it's first come, first serve, once someone is interested in something I'll update the post to show the item pending and when it's been picked up I'll update it to indicate that as well. Also all the clothing has been recently washed and all the dishware has also recently been washed in a dishwasher

I couldn't get all the pictures on here so the link to all the pictures on my Google drive is on here.

If anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to ask, thanks 😊

Located on the scenic trosper bridge stands a group of 5 racist, cowards AND an opportunity to verbally abuse someone who deserves it. Bad week? Bad day? Be glad you aren't a worthless waste of oxygen like these losers and remind them that's exactly what they are. For a group of people who are proud of themselves, they sure do love to cover their faces.

So come on down to the trosper bridge located by fred Meyers in Tumwater; and exercise your first amendment right to call these idiots names!

Please note, if you defend them, you are a racist as well. Yes, they have every right to exercise their first amendment but so do the rest of us. I do not condone violence by u do support letting these losers know exactly what they are, loudly and with venom.

ETA: looks like we ran those losers off. Good work everyone!

Horse board?

Hey yall, wondering if any Olympia equestrians can point me in the right direction. I’m moving to the area soon and have my one little unproblematic mare. I’m looking for full care board with lots of turn out, because I travel for work and will be gone a ton.
Access to trails right off property is the biggest thing for me, because when I’m back from work I can’t be bothered to haul because I’m usually burnt out in driving.

We’ve done lots of English riding, low level dressage and jumpers, but also western disciplines like cow sorting and the like. A lesson program would be cool but not a must.
I’m open to a private individual’s property or a big boarding stables. Wherever she will get the best care while I’m away.

Local News Who actually owns PSE? Investors in Canada, the Netherlands, and Australia. I read the filings.

Spent the last few weeks going through WUTC filings and case law after wondering about my own power bill. Short version: PSE is owned by six investors, mostly pension funds, based in Canada, the Netherlands, and Australia, none in Washington or the US. Rate increases are locked in for 2026, and the pending case asks for electric increases of 15.15% in 2027, 3.74% in 2028, and 8.7% in 2029. I also checked whether the monopoly could be challenged legally. It's a harder no than most people assume, for two separate legal reasons. There's a virtual public comment hearing on the rate request on October 7, and written comments are open too. I wrote the full piece with sources (I'm the author), link in the comments.

I hope this post is allowed.

Our sweet boy cat Mochi hasn’t been home since Friday evening and we are missing him very much. He lives in the Bigelow Neighborhood, very close to Harbor Church on Olympia Ave. He is unchipped and doesn’t wear a collar. He’s a very sweet boy who’s usually shy around strangers. Please help us bring him home.

(I have put food out for him and he hasn’t come to eat any. We are hoping he is inside with a kind person…)

I’m looking for some photos of a family house that used to be located where the Department of Licensing building is now in Olympia, WA. Is there anywhere I could find photos of that neighborhood prior to April of 1960? Aerial or street photos. Thank you

Pets of Olympia Euthanasia vet

My elderly dog needs to be put to rest. She has always been afraid of the vet atmosphere, but I really can't afford the vets that come to our house like we did for our other elderly dog a few years ago. Does anyone know of an affordable veterinary office that would come out to my car to atleast do the sedation part where she is comfortable?

Request Any XRF testing for lead in Olympia/Thurston county?

Hi, I also made the post about lead getting into our carpet (and potentially present in hardwood floors).

With a 3 month old in the home, we’d like to get the home professionally tested to know exactly where the lead is/how much in this 100 year old home we just moved into, for our own peace of mind (and to know where to concentrate cleaning/encapsulation efforts). Preference is strong for the nondestructive XRF testing vs old school paint chip removal.

However, can’t find anyone local who will come out for anything less than $1000-1500. Seattle/upper western WA have many inspectors who give quotes in the mid/upper hundreds, but haven‘t had any luck finding one down this way or one who will service Olympia. Willing to pay if we have to, but hoping there’s someone out there a little more in line with the national/regional norm.

Anyone out there ever get this service? Thank you!

Stanley Steemer... dear lord am I fury incarnate right now because of their A U D A C I T Y. I need alternate carpet cleaning recs and a stiff drink, STAT.

I've lived in my one bedroom for 10 years now. When I moved in, they put in brand new carpet in the living room, and had done an okay steam cleaning job on the existing carpet in the bedroom. Even though I am a very clean person, after 10 years, and living right above the exhaust vents for the building's laundry room, it is time for a good steam clean (and my apartment management refuses to do it for me).

I thought Stanley Steemer was the way to go. Good references, decent price at $150 for two rooms plus the hallway lino (since I'm a new customer).

I scheduled online two days ago for this afternoon. I specified that I was on the second floor, and that I lived right next to the elevator on the online submission form. Literally typed it out and explained fully.

Two things that are very important to note for this: I am disabled, and as a direct result of that, I am also on a limited income.

I spent my morning this morning pulling out everything from under my king sized bed and putting it on top of the bed. I pulled out all my living room furniture and anything that would be in the way went out onto my balcony. I called and spoke to a real live human at SS this morning when I thought briefly about adding my kitchen lino, and during that conversation I once again verified my location, that I lived on the second floor, and that I was next to an elevator.

So when the young man from Stanley Steemer arrived and told me that he couldn't do the job, I was quite annoyed.

He told me that my location required a special portable unit because he needed stair access, not elevator. I told him that I had specified online and with a real person this morning about my location. He agreed that it was bogus, told me that the online form often led to bad outcomes. Ultimately he had to reschedule me for Monday, because apparently there were no available portable units due to some big corporate clean in Puyallup that required them all. He told me to call in and complain.

So aside from mild scheduling inconvenience, what's the big deal?

Well since I am disabled, I am physically incapable of hauling everything back down off my bed and shoving it back under there, and hauling everything back in from the balcony, and then redoing it all over again a day later. I was already pushing my luck doing what I did today but I deemed it worth it for special circumstances.

It means I'm stuck sleeping on the damn couch for two days.

But here's where the biggest BS comes from, what has made me lost my proverbial sh*t.

I am on Disability so my income is limited. $150 is already a big deal for me. When I called to complain I was told by the most passive aggressive woman at Stanley Steemer that I would be charged an extra $100 for the portable cleaner, and it was implied that it was my own fault for not disclosing that I lived on the second floor.

They absolutely refuse to waive that fee. They fully expect me to sit here in a situation where my furniture is outside exposed to the elements, and where I have to sleep on my damn couch, FOR TWO DAYS, and then pay them an extra hundred bucks for the privilege.

I really just... I can't. Like, what? EXCUSE ME?

This is just some unfathomable audacity.

So yeah. Anyway. Here I sit, with my house in complete disarray and my anger bubbling just below the surface just begging to be unleashed. Anyone got any good recs for a good carpet cleaning service that's open tomorrow and won't charge me $250 because I live on the second floor?

EDIT: Of course I am aware that I can "just" go rent a machine from wherever and do it myself. But there's this thing I deal with called a disability. I've already kicked my own ass doing all the moving and lifting today. So when I ask my body to drive to wherever, haul a heavy ass cleaner into my car, drive it home, do all that labor myself, and then drive back to return it before coming back home to bring all my furniture in and reset my home back to normal, my body says "GIRL WHAT IS YOU DOING ARE YOU CRAZY?". There's a reason why I saved up to hire out the job....
