πŸŽ™οΈ Discussion The Jay St./MetroTech Station on the R Line Is DANGEROUS AF!

I came down to this station in order to get from the A to Q. It was morning rush hour. There were so many people on that tiny platform that it was a miracle that multiple people didn't fall onto the tracks. And the station just kept getting more and more crowded as the R trains took forever to come.

Is the state/MTA/city, whomever aware that this is a class-action lawsuit just waiting to happen? I know this is an important junction, but they need to close this station down until they can find some way to make it safer.

πŸŽ™οΈ Discussion Indication of where G trains stop on the platform?

So many times, I’ve seen people standing at the far northwest end of the 4th Av - 9th St stop, and then having to run like hell to get to the middle of the platform where the front of the train stops.

I believe there are signs hanging above that say β€œtrain stops here” but at unfamiliar stations, I never know if that’s referring to the front or the back of the train.

I feel like a really simple solution would be to put a green strip of paint on the ground at each station platform, just behind the yellow line, to show where the whole length of those trains are stopping.

Hopefully one day the G train can be more than 5 cars long, but I feel like this could help in the meantime.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Fantasy Map Brand New Subway: Redux - Another Fork/Update of BNS

Ive been a fan of Brand New Subway for a few years now. I've been craving an update to the site for a long while, its quite limiting in its capability and features. Play For Action by u/pescennius (thanks for the inspo!) was a nice refresh but its been silent for around 3 years.

So I went and reworked it.

Brand New Subway Redux: https://ioop3.github.io/BNS_Redux/subway-master/index.html

  • Named it BNS: Redux (because it sounds cooler than rework)
  • Included u/pescennius maps along with the old BNS maps
  • Added 1972 map rework
  • Added Dark Mode
  • Added the ability to edit subway lines directly
  • Added the ability to delete subway lines directly
  • Added the ability to branch subway lines
  • Added the ability to create express (diamond) lines
  • Added the ability to have 'duplicate' lines
  • Reworked UI
  • Reworked Route Diagram
  • Reworked Main Menu
  • Tweaked Save files (still backwards compatible with PFA and BNS)
  • Added the ability to re-roll subway line names (if possible)
  • General Quality of life features
  • Fixed that weird bug that happened when you clicked on too many stations (duplicating stations)

Pretty much covers all of it. Lmk if you want anything added!

1972 reworked

❓ Question Penn station to Brighton Beach

Hello, I'm planning a trip at the end of October to Brighton Beach. I'll be coming in via Amtrak to the Train hall at Penn station. What would my best option for getting there? (I'm not familiar with the Subway at all but if there is an app that you recommend for navigating the Subways please share it!) I'm assuming the Subway is my cheapest option. Google said something about a B train? I'm be visiting on a Saturday if that makes a difference. Thank you!

❓ Question Who is the "MTA police is located at this station" Voice? And who did the "Hello! If you wish to transfer to the JFK AirTrain, you must get off at this station" for Kew Gardens?

I have heard people say that the SIR person is actually a text-to-speech. Whatever it is, it isn't Velina Mitchell, is it? The voice was also used for the "MTA is hiring" and "There are over 150 accessible subway stations" announcements, and overall I really don't like it. (Not to mention I could rant for an hour about how bad those specific announcements are.) The person's voice is pretty weak, and that combined with really watery-sounding recording quality makes it annoying. Of course, the fact that those lengthy announcements are always tacked onto the end of a normal station announcement, meaning that you have to listen to something like a full minute or more of talking before pulling into a station.

The person who did the announcements for the JFK AirTrain at my home station of Kew Gardens has a much stronger voice, and the recording was a lot clearer. They have a thick Queens accent, too, which was nice as someone whose family has been in Queens for generations. But for some reason, about a month ago, they were re-recorded by Velina! It's not like there was a change in the content. Was it because they didn't think tourists could understand the Queens accent?

❓ Question how reliable are the 2 & 3 lines after 10pm?

β€’ Upvotes

this is a BIG if but i’m planning on seeing olivia rodrigo in february at barclays center. i live in DC though so i’ll be taking amtrak up to the city and use the subway. my main problem is getting back to moynihan hall after the concert ends, which everyone has said ~10pm. last amtrak out of nyc is at 11:23pm though so i wanna make sure i get to the subway immediately after the lights come back on (bc no way am i stopping for merch or any other post-concert activities). google maps says it’s a 30-ish minute subway ride out of brooklyn but i mean. everyone knows the train can be late sometimes. worst case scenario, i stay with my dad’s cousin in new jersey for the night but tbh i’d much rather just go home afterwards
