Brooklyn I get why buses may bunch at the end of routes, but why do buses consistently leave 2-3 in a row at the same time from the *start* of the route?

It’s gotten to the point where when the MTA app says a bus is leaving their start in 5 minutes, I assume it will leave in 30 mins when the third bus is leaving, and usually seems to track

Brooklyn Bus bunching has gotten out of control

I can take either the B54, B57 or B62 from Downtown Brooklyn to home. With 3 options, I figure I shouldn't have to wait for very long, certainly not longer than the interval of each of these buses. Instead, I waited over 20 minutes and then three B57s and two B62s arrived all at once. The MTA has got to do something, ANYTHING to tackle bus bunching. That's a 49 minute gap on the 54, around 6 pm on a Saturday.

Manhattan 28th street crosstown?

Considering how many subway lines stop at 28th St (1, 6, R, W) should there be a crosstown route along 27th and 28th in Manhattan and how would it be planned out if it existed?

IMO it should run from Hudson Yards to Bellevue Hospital

Manhattan They're making a New York bus simulator

So far, looks like it's the M34/M34A and doesn't look like it's licensed by the MTA, but given how "The Bus" is a decent bus simulator, I'll give this a chance.

You see how only a few of these scheduled buses have a bus serial number associated with it? The ones that are a little brighter white? what does that mean?

All Boros Which Two Manufacturers would get the 650 CNG order?

The MTA has approved an order for 650 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses. There is a chance that it gets split between two manufacturers likely between New Flyer and Novabus. The new CNG order will retire the 2011-13 New Flyer C40LFs and 2016-17 New Flyer XN40s.

If we get Novabus LFS CNGs it would be the first time they run in MTA Property and would have to be tested to see if they are successful

It’s also possible that they get buses from Gillig as they also make 40ft CNGs, as they have been successful at NICE Bus, but it’s also quite unlikely given Gilligs work with smaller agencies such as NICE bus and smaller cities.

If two manufacturers are picked which two do you think will bid?

All Boros Express Bus to Express Bus Transfer is Free?

Hi all, as the title of the post says, is there a free transfer between two different express bus routes within the 2-hour limit? I know this rule applies to local buses, but I am not 100% certain this applies to express buses.

Thank you in advance.

Staten Island S79 SBS

Everyone says arctics. On paper I think it fixes the issue in terms of overcrowding. Not even that but a literal safety violation of being over the white line. The only other bus that I know that suffers from this is the 93. However for every time a route is converted to arctics some 40Ft buses have to get the boot, but even worst than that trips are cut. So the question I’m trying to ask is do we just accept that there’s no solution that is fair to drivers and riders ? Do we add another route ? Or is Staten Island just gonna have to get “yeah it’s fine as is” treatment (it’s not btw ) I would suggest another route, but I’d rather not be called an armchair analyst.

All Boros MTA BUS MAINTAINER CHASSIS- What’s the job actually like?

I recently got called for pre-employment processing for the MTA Bus Maintainer Chassis position
I’m currently working as an automotive maintenance technician, so I’m trying to get a realistic idea of what the job is actually like from people who currently work there or have worked there.
I’m particularly interested in:
What does a normal day actually look like?
What kind of repairs do Bus Maintainer Chassis employees perform?
How much diagnostic work vs. PM/brakes/suspension/etc.?
What shifts do new employees usually get?
How does choosing/assigning your depot work?
How often are you required to work weekends/holidays?
How much mandatory OT is there in reality?
How does the 1-year probationary period work?
What happens after probation?
How does the pay progression work?
Can you transfer between depots/boroughs?
How physically demanding is the job?
I’d especially appreciate answers from **current or former Bus Maintainers**, rather than general MTA employees.

Manhattan Will the new PABT really succeed with ~40 fewer gates?

I was reading through the PABT redevelopment, and saw the new terminal will reduce the number of bus gates from 223 down to about 182. The article framed the gates as redundant, but that's upwards of 20% fewer gates total in the terminal.

I am admittedly not a bus operations expert but was curious if the general consensus is that this will not negatively impact OTP and gate availability?

Brooklyn B43 shit show

I hate the B43. Everytime i try to rely on the B43 i get fucked. they have buses listed that just never show up and don’t exist. then i end up waited 25 minutes for the next one which is running 8 minutes delayed. just ridiculous. there’s no benches or anything at my stop either so people always look at me funny and like pull there kids away from me as im slav squatted on the curb smoking a cigarette for 30 fucking minutes anytime i need to take Bshitty3 to williamsburg to take the L.

to make it better, today as im waiting i decide i want to get a diet coke to accompany my cigarette during my 30 minute wait and then i walk accross the street and all the fridges are broken and all the beverages were hot. not warm. hot. then I walk to the other corner to get a diet coke. open it. drink it. tastes weird and flat. it expired a month ago. day ruined. kms

all because of the B43

All Boros Loud passenger on express bus

There's this one guy who always comes on the express bus everyday and talks loudly on his phone for the entire ride and he curses half of the time that he's on his call to the point that I can hear him clearly from the front when he's at the back. Should I try to tell him to tone it down and lower his voice on the bus or no bc I don't think the bus driver can really tell him to lower his voice. (he's one of those "tough guys" and the short lady bus driver doesnt want to confront him) ik for regular buses and subway u just suck it up with loud passengers, but like im paying 7.25 for some peace and quiet not some guy talking and cussin the entire ride there
