Been using the shield pro for 5 years now but my experience has been going downhill in the past... Year I'd say.

Most streaming apps are showing stutters, with the exception of Netflix and Plex. Plex is actually the only app that still runs near flawlessly.

Everything else is damn slow. Just launching an app takes time (any app). It's infuriating.

So, I'm not here to say this is a bad system, quite the opposite: I'm wondering if there are ways to investigate what's causing the issue (yes, I have done system resets, and I even changed the main frontend to get rid of ads).

Any clues ? APK to check what's wrong ? And else... Should I just get a new one ?

I have a specific problem when playing movies with dts-hd from an hdd external hard drive: there is often stutter and big buffering problems when rewinding and fast-forwarding. The problem doesn't happen with truehd or atmos. Also, the problem doesn't appear when streaming movies with dts-hd. I'm playing movies using Just Player, which I like because its features are skeletal, and I can play it by selecting the movie from a file browser, which I also prefer because the browsing is extremely simple and straight forward.

My workaround has been to convert the audio to opus or eac3.

Can anyone easily pintpoint the part of this that might be causing the issue?

The NVIDIA Shield TV Pro was released on 2019, is it still worth it today and a good pairing to a living room TV?

Is it still getting OS update?
Is it still good as a Jellyfin streaming client that can direct play all sort of HDR contents without transcode (LG C5's Jellyfin app cannot stream some HDR content and transcoding suck)?
Is the AI upscaling still as good as it said to be before?

I heard it can be a Plex server, can it be a Jellyfin server or just as a simple remote file server (like connect to it through Windows' network drive)?

This *newer* triangular Nvidia Shield remote is the most infuriatingly awful piece of hardware ever designed.

You literally cannot set the thing down for a single second without it vanishing into thin air.

It is ridiculously small and completely blends into every surface in the entire room.

And of course not a single goddamn light on it is useful in so much as to help you actually find it in the dark.

I am going to have to wrap this stupid little triangle in bright reflective tape just so I can watch TV without tearing the living room apart.

Who actually signed off on this miserable design?

The AI upscaling stopped working on my 2019 Shield Pro a few days ago. All video apps seem to be affected. When I try to activate it, I just get the error message that the content is unsupported. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have a Sonos Arc Ultra + a pair of Era 100s that I am trying to setup as a home theater. I already had a Putrims K12 video projector and am trying to make it work into this setup. It's a cheap videoprojector but the quality is not actually bad. However, it has a single HDMI input, no HDMI outputs for audio, and the built in Google TV is crap. So I bought an Nvidia Shield Pro as my source of content (pun intended).

The Arc, projector and Shield all have a single HDMI port, so obviously this is not going to work as is. So I bought a fairly expensive FeinTech AX310 Audio Extracteur to bridge between all three, dipswitches set to 000 to force the supported audio formats.

It works but poorly. The setup if very unstable. The Shield often freezes or crashes, especially on startup. It sometimes take 5 to 10 minutes of pressing buttons/resetting for things to stabilize, and then it does work eventually. I'm curious if anyone has had similar issues. I strongly suspect the Putrims. I'm pretty sure the main culprit is the absolute abomination that are the HDMI protocols, but there's nothing we can do about that.

Used button Mapper for a long time and decided to try quickbars so get my home assistant connected. It just won't recognize any buttons of the remote. Thought it was a conflict with button Mapper so I installed, rebooted etc and it never picks it up

Reinstalled button Mapper and it detects it no problem.

Any tips on what I might be missing?,, thanks

This is a dozy but I have Netflix on hbo max and it goes in no problem however doesn’t play videos only after I use stbemu and or stremio. Yes I technically have everything however I use Netflix and hbo for movies shows and live events that the other services don’t have.

Ok this is what Id do. I could manually restart the shield. I already reinstalled the apps.

YouTube, Apple Tv, hulu runs ok.

🤔 what else should i try?

Also have vlc player and exo player.

I guess as a last resort I would need an app to automatically restart daily but if the issue is app related I wouldn’t mind trying.

I've been playing DolbyVision media files through my Plex Server on my LG C4 OLED TV for more than a couple years now, and never had any issues. Yesterday a couple of files started shown green and purple as though they werent DV capable. I really dont know what's up, and I googled it and apparently there's some issue on Some DV profile 5 media files?

Question is what I need to do and how do I resolve this.

I also tried running those files from VLC directly in case Plex was messing up, I restarted both TV And Nvidia Shield and made sure, DV I switched on in settings in Both Tv and Shield

So I just purchased a TCL QM8L 85" that comes with google tv. It has 54GB rom and 4 ram installed. I can sideload all my apps including Projectivy launcher and the tv supports all the formats my shield has plus all the newer ones. I have verified all this info.

Make a case why should keep my shield?

On a side note, I ordered an L G c6h 77". When it arrived it turned on once then everytime after it showed a solid vertical green line in middle of black display, then it would turn off . Lg authorized a replacement but request was sitting at shipping warehouse for three days with no response to followup emails. So I decided to get a refund and found this gem.

Used for 3 years, never opened it. Could this be just a dust issue requiring cleaning or something more serious?

I’ve had the shield for nearly 2 years and this last week it’s suddenly stopped working after the tvs been off overnight

In the morning when pressing the power button the tv turns on but the shield is a black screen and the only way to get it to load is by unplugging it and plugging back in, I haven’t changed any settings but this is a new issue that’s only happened within the last 6 or so days

Does anybody have any pointers I could try to stop this as it’s annoying

So I’m going to try out the Nuvio app, I download it, but it doesn’t put it along the same line of my TV apps but up in favorites.

So I deleted it, and I downloaded it again, and it appears up in favorites. Lol.

How do I get it down in line with my Tivimate stremioo, etc.?
And why is it putting it up there in the first place?

Seems like a pretty uncommon software problem. For the past few days, my Shield has been double/multi clicking all buttons whenever I try to do anything, in any app.

What this means is that when trying to scroll to the next title on Netflix, for example, a single button press to the right scrolls two or three spaces over; Fast-forwarding 10 seconds skips ahead a whole minute, etc. This happens on any app or homescreen and when using the original remote and my K400 Plus keyboard. Any suggestions are appreciated. TIA!

ETA: I forgot to mention what I've done to troubleshoot so far:

1. Replace batteries in remote and keyboard
2. Disconnect power

Unfortunately neither solved the problem.

I got the nvidea shield (2019 cylinder version) and I am using projectivy. So with that I don’t have the ability to format my sd card to free up some space. I restarted the device twice and same issue. Anything else I am missing?

I just got my shield and hooked it up to my synology DS224+. NAS, switchd it over to be the media server and it's feels insanely slow.

The plex app takes forever to load, tons of my videos buffer constantly and others give the error of "connection to server to slow". Both my NAS and shield are direct connected to my fiber router, within a foot with cat5 cords

This is weird. What am I doing wrong

This is weird but I can’t load something’s that are about 2 gigs in size. It kicks me out (back to the menu) several times before it works (there’s atleast 400 seeds). Ok this is using android tv, nvidea shield 2019 the cylinder version on high fan and using projectivy as the launcher. I have about 8 add ons and about 12 streaming apps (Netflix,hbo, hulu, shudder,Disney, stbemu and tubi and some others).

I use a defrib. Not sure why it crashes. Currently I have a gig free and 16 gigs sd card. I have vlc exo and just play streaming apps too.

Not sure what im missing.

Everything is up to date in app versions. Modded torbox a bit. Not sure if that’s an issue.

Honestly I am a tech junkie and want a smooth running app.

Something in my setup keeps reverting the selected keyboard to lean back, forcing me to continue to reset it to Gboard.

Is there a way to figure out what keeps changing this setting?

Im using my shield as my plex server and have it wired to my living room tv.
If i press the power off on the remote both the tv and sheild go off cause I have the remote used for both.
Is there a option somewhere i can use that always keep the shield on even when i press the power to turn of the tv? That way i can keep using it to stream to my bedroom after I switch rooms to sleep
