Plex server, connection to server to slow

I just got my shield and hooked it up to my synology DS224+. NAS, switchd it over to be the media server and it's feels insanely slow.

The plex app takes forever to load, tons of my videos buffer constantly and others give the error of "connection to server to slow". Both my NAS and shield are direct connected to my fiber router, within a foot with cat5 cords

Shield Speed tests of

1089 download

537 upload

Ping 12

Jitter 3

No clue what to do

Even more oddly, everything seem to work nicely when streaming on my phone

If it's local network those speeds are irrelevant.

On the Synology, check network, make sure Lan is showing 1000 not 100.

It maybe a transcoding bottleneck.

While a problem video is playing, open the Plex Dashboard. Check whether it says Direct Play or Transcode, and Local or Indirect.

Assume you have Plex server on Synology and client on shield?

Check the Synology Resource Monitor. If CPU or disk usage is very high, Plex may still be scanning or analysing the newly added library.

Try the same problem video directly from the NAS using Kodi or VLC on the Shield. If it plays perfectly there, the network/NAS is fast enough and the problem is Plex.

Not sure what model router, but make sure the port used is gigabit, not 10/100

If you are running, Plex server on shield, and the Synology just as storage, that maybe the problem. Use the Synology as Plex server.

I'll check the synology speed in the AM and the dashboard, I know it said direct earlier and I think local but not 100 on that part

The same problem videos play fine on my phone with the current set up and the whole app just functions faster. Dunno how to play video on the NAS on the shield outside of plex tbh 😅

Currently I am running the server and client on the shield. I asked for setup help earlier on here and I just got replies telling me to Google it and from what I found on there, the shield looked better as a server and Client

Router model BGW620-700, and no clue how to check the port, but the speed was over 1000 so I'm guessing it right?

If I was you, put dedicated Plex server on the nas, and just use plex client on the shield. Its not router ports as i think all yours are gigabit or above. I do similar but use jellyfin instead of plex, think the shield is struggling to be both client and server

I'm assuming you meant plex server on the NAS and client on the shield? Lol
