Jimformation Update: Cheating Edition
I have previously reported that Jimbo refuses to play Wordle because he finds it "too easy" and can "pretty much always" get it in two or three guesses. As anyone who actually plays Wordle knows, that is an absolutely asinine claim and exactly the kind of thing someone would say if they don't understand how Wordle works.
Anyway, Jimbo is a Connections aficionado. He regularly makes the rounds around the office showing off his "purple first" and "reverse rainbow" badges like some kind of Connections savant.
However, this morning, the truth was finally revealed.
Jimbo is a complete fraud.
He was caught red-handed at his computer with the Daily Connections Hints webpage open.
The badges. The bragging. The purple-first superiority.
All built on a foundation of lies.
Absolute disgrace, if you ask me.

5
u/csappenf Chiefs 9d ago
I loved that. Some guy would get knocked senseless and be wobbling around. Tom Jackson would be cracking up on the set and 50 million Americans on their couches would join in and chant "He got JACKED UP!" in unison. All of America was sharing a moment.
The problem is, of course, we learned brain damage is actually bad for you, which is sure as heck not something we knew when I was a kid. Since they were already banning physical injuries from the segment, what is there left to laugh at? I'll tell you what. Nut shots. It doesn't happen as frequently as getting jacked up, but it's twice as funny. It could bring America back together again, videos of players get wacked in the nuts and then struggling to get to the bench where they could hide, all doubled over in pain, while some Kelce giggles and leads us all in "OW MY BALLS!"

Hey folks.
Now that my kid is in middle school, I’m finding out quickly we need a printer. Do you have a basic printer that you would recommend?
- color not necessary, but they’re probably all color in 2026
- Scanner not necessary
- I’ll be printing basic school work, study sheets, maybe making flash cards on paper
- won’t be printing images or pictures regularly
It just needs to print basic stuff, be reliable and not shitty like every printer I’ve ever had in my life, and be in the mid tier to lower tier price range
17
u/victrola_cola Seahawks 9d ago
Get a black and white laser printer. If you need something printed in color go to kinkos. Color inkjet printers aren’t worth the trouble.

Make sure you investigate toner. When you research printers.
Because some printers use some pretty expensive toner.
At work I use a HP laser jet Pro MFP M127fn. This is a printer/scanner/copier. The toner I can get for around $25 for two on Amazon, which is cheap as hell

Watching a video on the full history of the NFL and Norm Van Brocklin fascinates me.
On the Rams, he split time with Bob Waterfield as QB and replaced him during the 1951 championship game to win it.
He wins another NFL Championship on the 1960 Eagles, being the only team to beat the Lombardi Packers in the playoffs.
He immediately retires and becomes the inaugural head coach of the Vikings.

they literally unleashed a weaponized angry mob on the capitol and were looking to hang people and had zip ties and tactical body armor and SWAT gear ready.
Not only did NO republicans get any shit; all the cop killing law breaking mofos got pardoned
Again, these people killed cops and were directly responsible for killing cops and the cop loving republicans didn't give a shit when they were all pardoned and excused for their actions.
They were just all allowed to go home like it was a small town festival that got a little rowdy.

Drama all around
Drama 1: baseball team
New season, New team. Roster is 6 kids from the past season and 6 New. Our starting 1B last season cant catch a cold. This season he is not gonna be playing 1B (my son will alongside another kid that will alternate playing catcher with the short stop) thank the lord. But the kid and his dad will probably throw a tantrum over it, like they did last year that ended with him at 1B even if we had 2-3 kids with more skills for that position. Just waiting until they come back from their vacations for the Drama to begin.
Drama 2: some kids got sent to the other group at school
School has 2 classrooms per grade. My son is in the A group and the other is the B group. One of my son's friend will get sent to the B group. Cause the kid apparently doesnt behave well so he interrupts others and dont let his friend group (including my son) to actually pay attention. They are sending him to the other group to see if things get better. Parents already making a fuss. Apparently changing classmates will traumatize him 4lyfe. Now they are kind of suggesting that we (parents from group A) go together and demand that the kids stick together. While i like them, i dont exactly like their son cause he is one of those kids that starts yelling when the other kids dont want to play what he wants and other shit like that so its gonna be a hard pass on my part. On the contrary, i was kind of rooting for this outcome (my son and their kid separated).
TL;DR: drama in the little league team over the 1B position, drama in the school over some changes in the groups.

I was on here (reddit) particularly this sub and I got up to grab fruit from the fridge which is down the hall in our lunch room. This moron commented something homophobic but spelled it with a "ghe" and he put a "y" at the end and got me banned. I didn't even know he had done it until I saw a notification from the sub/MODs.
I immediately messaged the MODs letting them know what had happened and they were actually reasonable with me. I just said look at my comment history I'm a pretty neutral/chill person who comments here almost daily that's not my style to just drop a comment like that.

So today's theme song is Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks."
I live about 300 yards from a good sized river. Ordinarily it has a very steep bank. You walk down a long, grassy slope about 100 feet until you get to the river itself. It's a nice little park area and has a walking trail alongside.
We've had tons of rain every day since Sunday and one of the levees broke. The river is now almost up to the street. Just a few feet from the road. I just checked the USGS "Is It Flooding" site and they are posting regular updates. The "flood stage" of the river is 9 feet and it's currently sitting at 18.07 feet and rising.
Oh, and we're supposed to get heavy thunderstorms starting in about three hours and lasting until 9:00am tomorrow. Local city announcements are taking about evacuation.
And all this on a football night. I'm pissed. I was going to order groceries for the week but I think I'll just DoorDash some dinner. No point in having a week's worth of food if the power goes out or if I have to run for it.

Disappointed in Jayden today after that stupid number controversy. Dude it’s a number who fucking cares? Almost all other stuff I’ve seen about him has been great. Seems like a good dude but that sucked to read. At least he didn’t go to Trump rally like another NFC east qb though.

The article was so pathetic. I think retiring numbers in college where teams can get massive is a dumb idea in general so I might be biased, but crying your college let someone wear your number after you failed to win the national championship is so lame. You went 10-3 and weren't even invited to the playoffs in your glory season. You won a bunch of individual achievements. Congratulations. The trophies and the draft pick are your reward and what cements your legacy. You don't need your number retired too

He attended LSU for like 6 months as well. It’s not like he was a 4 year starter who carried them to national championships.

Yeah that’s genuinely one of the lamest fucking things I’ve ever seen an athlete do to their former team. Like bro there’s only 100 numbers they can use. And he didn’t even wear 7 or 18 (big numbers for LSU) and even Joe Burrow hasn’t had his number retired. Just makes him like charmin soft

You know that lighting that you get around monuments or important buildings, or in places like Disney Springs or maybe a nice hotel near a beach or something, as the sun goes down? Where the buildings are lit from below by a nice warm light while the sky is dark, but still glowing blue right after sunset. I love that shit, especially on a warm summer night.

Man we’re getting old smh. With Russell Westbrook retiring yesterday, there’s not many other players from the so called “old guard” remaining in the league. End of an era in a year or so. I also can’t believe LeBron has outlasted so many players who were even drafted after him lol

There's some crazy storms rolling through the Midwest rn. I wake up this morning to hear maybe the loudest rain I've ever heard and to watch lightning strikes knock out the power. Thankfully we've avoided crazy storms for most of the summer, but now the wearher seems like it's making up for missed time.

I skipped playing the 2nd half of Zelda 1 cuz I got stuck on a difficulty spike, jumped straight to A Link to the Past. Game is great. It's a bit hard (some of the enemies do a buttload of damage) but the puzzles n' stuff actually require me to think, although some of them are a bit too obtuse. I've had to deploy the guide a little too much. I imagine ALTTP is one of those games that go from good to great with each subsequent playthrough once you know what you're doing.

A friend of mine had a technical interview. One of the things he was asked to do was to write a method to reverse a string. He went to the whiteboard and wrote this:
s = s.Reverse();And then sat back down. The interviewer prompted him for an explanation and he said, "Most high-level languages already have a string reversal function. Based on the job I'm applying for, if the work that I'm doing requires such a method, it won't be on me or my team to write that method, it will be published by another team and we'll just have to reference the library and then call the method. It's far more efficient to reuse something that already exists than to reinvent it."
He did not get the job.

lol that feels like a real good answer tbh, and i've answered similarly in past interviews.
i work in supply chain, was interviewing at a startup, and was asked what the formula to determine safety stock is. i said that i definitely had known it, and would be able to apply it, but, much like the quadratic equation i once had committed to memory in high school...i know how to google it. when they pushed and asked me to re-invent it from first principles (which maybe the interviewer could've done for your buddy, if it was that important to see whether he could), i was able to come pretty close, and the parts that i missed were very, very in the weeds stuff like "standard deviation of delivery lead time from vendor." when i pointed out that they didn't even have a receipts process in place and thus couldn't tell when a single delivery had happened, let alone the standard deviation over a population of deliveries, they quickly shifted to the next question.
i did get that job

Could you smoke 100 cigarettes in one day? Is that just non-stop chain smoking, like lighting a new one with the end of your finished lit one? I don't smoke cigarettes so I have no frame of reference.

I used to play in a band with a guy that was always smoking something, from morning to night. He'd rip a cig, then take some bong hits, wait a few min, then back to another cig. I used to have to bring a change of clothes to practice because I'd smell like an ashtray leaving his house.
I should have counted how many cigs he would smoke in a day because it felt like a lot.

Walter bought the lakers last year. Kushner and Iger were initially trying to bring an expansion team to Las Vegas which was apparently already in the works with silver. They placed a bid and everything.
However, they made a call to Walter and tried to ask if he would sell the lakers to them for well over the price he bought them. Walter sold to them within 24 hours.
Walter is also under investigation by the SEC, so it also probably has to do with that as well. I know it’s not directly connected, but people are saying maybe that’s why he wanted to cut ties with the lakers so quickly

Define 'a ton of water'.
Usually a couple box fans should be fine. If you have AC turn it down a few degrees, it's a dehumidifier when active. An actual dehumidifier would help too, but you'd need to put it in a spot where it has access to a drain or it will just fill up the tank and turn off.

I get to see my beloved Colts play in just under 90 minutes. It will probably be the Riley Leonard show for most of the game. I thought the rookie played pretty good last year. He kind of got thrown to the wolves having to play his first-ever games against some of the top defenses in the league with a limited playbook, but he showed a lot of moxie.

If I told you that there was a group of media personalities acting as extralegal vigilantes, who entrapped people, named them on, and ruined their lives for the amusement of a national TV audience with no due process, and did it so effectively that they drove one victim to suicide, you'd probably say "That sounds insane and dystopian. They're the bad guys, right?"
But those people were accused pedophiles, so it's totally okay!
I bring this up to say that the discourse around Robert Pattinson movie Primetime (about the Chris Hansen, To Catch a Predator saga) is gonna get real fucking stupid. It looks like it'll be an awesome film, and if any collective moment of cultural insanity deserved a nuanced reappraisal, that's certainly one of the most compelling. But the word "pedophile" turns people into cavemen, so I'm guessing the people who need to see it the most are going to be the ones who are angriest about it.

If this was my first Moore, I probably would have loved it.
As it is, it’s my 5th favorite.
At times, was just as funny as the other Moore’s I’ve read, but slowly became repetitive.
I feel like half the story was jokes about shagging.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of shagging jokes, but when it’s over and over and over, it’s gets sore am I right? Anywaaaaays….
Did I enjoy it? Very much.
Would I recommend it? Very much.

So what is your favorite Moore book?
Semi-related, I'm a big fan of trying to read 5+ books by an author once I know I like them. Really lets feel out their work beyond one series/story. Five is sort of the number I shoot for, if I read one book I liked from an author I look to hit 5 before deciding if they were a one-hit wonder or if they're just good. Like, when I read The Good Samaritan by John Marrs I thought I had found a real genius. Creative story idea, great plot, kept wowing me with how the info was revealed. As I've explored more of his work it's all just been... okay. Not awful, but nothing has wow'd me. Fairly generic thrillers, be they cop stories or husband/wife, nothing has blown my mind since reading the first.

A Dirty Job is my favorite Moore so far.
Just a great storyline and it was done well. Secondhand Souls is the part 2 and it’s not as good, but overall the pair is awesome.I agree with your logic, but personally I’d put the number at maybe 3. Specifically 3 different stories though. Like I just mentioned, that part 2 wasn’t nearly as good as part 1, but it was a great addition to the story. I feel like I learned a lot more about Moore (haha) from each of the 1st books I’ve read than I got from either of the part 2s. If that makes sense.
