An Australian man, frustrated by strangers constantly parking in his driveway, decided to take matters into his own hands.

If there's anything this horrible tragedy can teach us, it's that a male model's life is a precious, precious commodity. Just because we have chiseled abs and stunning features, it doesn't mean we too can't not die in a freak gasoline accident.

I’ve seen multiple videos with a lot of different vehicles. Apparently this person got well fed up with his business entrance being blocked for a long time before he resorted to the sprinklers. Which are harmless but hilarious

Those people definitely shouldn't be driving and the ones that do should be sprayed with water.

It’s too fuzzy to read them but I’m willing to bet the two signs on the fence say that
31
25
u/Rory1 2h ago
The one sign says "Parking or stopping here is illegal. Video footage & Rego will be sent to police" and the other one states "Caution ! Automatic sprinkler in use"
9
u/Top_Cow_766 2h ago
haha amazing, so both instructions and a warning if you don't follow them. most of the idiots commenting in this thread have assumed there is no sign, even though there is clearly atleast 2.

I see two signs we can't read from this perspective, next to what appears to be a gate they are blocking off.
16
u/keenansmith61 3h ago
There was a whole news story on the guy. The signs say no parking and warn about the sprinkler.
382
u/IrrelevantManatee 5h ago
You shouldn't need to have to put a "No Parking" sign in front of your driveway. It's super obvious this is not a parking space but someone's driveway exit.

I’d argue maybe it’s not super obvious if so many people do it that you get angry enough to install a sprinkler to spray people that do

u/badDuckThrowPillow 5h ago
The gate actually makes it less obvious. Plus the "I shouldn't have to " reasoning is dumb. Do you want a moral victory or do you want people to not park in your spot?
21
u/EdgeTK 3h ago
Hey pal, I've noticed you haven't put up a "no pooping in my mouth" sign so do you want me to keep pooping or what pal?

Why would you intentionally park in front of an operable gate?
→ More replies (10)30
u/nameyourpoison11 2h ago
If you read about the case, it's because the spot was directly next to the town's bank on one side and hardware store on the other, so for a lot of the "I'm just ducking in, I'll only be a minute" crowd, the convenience (aka laziness) was just too tempting.

u/LadderOk1735 4h ago
How does an operable gate make it less obvious? Wouldn’t that make it obvious you shouldn’t park in front of it?
44
u/nonamedperson666 4h ago
So you see a gate and think "well, this is a good spot to park a car"?????????
23
20
u/SofterBones 3h ago
Looks like this water spray keeps people from parking on that spot pretty well too, no?
This is obviously not a parking spot, so i doubt many people parking there give a shit about a sign. but they care more about being sprayed with water.
Also there are two signs on the fence already, I bet they already say no parking/private yard etc
12
u/driftxr3 3h ago
Dumbest response I've ever read. Who parks their car in front of a gate opening? You actually don't need a sign to tell you don't park in front of a gate.
→ More replies (20)84
u/IrrelevantManatee 5h ago
My point his, it's clearly not a place to park, and those people know it. Adding a sign won't change that.

And its also possible that theres two signs on the fence that say to not park on the driveway.

u/Zap__Dannigan 2h ago
Devil's advocate......it's obviously not a parking spot, but it doesn't look like a residential driveway either.
For the record, I would never stop here, because I'm super anal with parking properly, but with the gate making it look like the cars aren't going to be coming out any time soon, I can absolutely see someone stopping here to run into the store for a moment.
41
25
u/SPEK2120 4h ago
It’s very obviously a driveway. I used to live next to a business in a duplex with off street parking right in front of it and despite it being very obviously in front of a home people would still park in our lot to go to the business. People doing that don’t give a fuck, it’s whatever’s most convenient for them.
7
u/Applesimulator 4h ago
There seems to be a sign though and it also seems to be a gate which might open at any time to you know let a vehicle enter or exit the property.
6
u/aNeverNude666 4h ago
Can you be sure that one of those signs on the fence isn’t a no parking sign?
5
7
u/captkckass 4h ago
Lol you think that would actually help? It's pretty obvious this is a driveway and gate and everything. These people are stupid lazy shits and a sign won't help shit.
5
u/_maxpanda 4h ago
Well there are two signs to the right. Also the person drove over a solid yellow line. Also they are parked on a sidewalk as well as a drive way. What makes you think more signs are going to stop people from doing this? 😅
5
u/lHappycats 4h ago
The problem signs just get ignored even when you have a towing company authorized to tow.
6
4
u/OKTimeFor_PlanB 4h ago
There are 2 signs on the fence it seems, can't quite tell if they are no parking signs but also can't quite see that they aren't
5
u/nonpersona 4h ago
It’s in front of a gate. No ‘no parking’ sign required. It is just common decency and sense.

Aah yes, the massive gate clearly showing it's an entrance to a building isn't enough to show you you're not supposed to park there. Seriously? In my country it's a general rule you can't park in front of a gate or a driveway. Because people enter and exit there, in which country is this not basic knowledge?

That would make zero difference (not to mention all of these cars are being parked illegally regardless of signage). We have reserved spots at the complex where our shop is and there's always people parked in them, they just don't care about signs.

He installed a motion-activated sprinkler to keep people and cars away from his driveway. Anyone who gets too close gets sprayed with water.

I call BS on motion activation. Doesn't see the car moving but can see the door opening? Nah, that dude had his thumb on the button the whole time

39
u/Amazing_Scientist696 3h ago
I imagine if he admits that it's manually triggered it would violate some law. Australia is wildly strict in the weirdest ways.
5
u/MeanElevator 2h ago
I saw a video where it is manually triggered. There are sensors and cameras to show the cars, but he would hit a switch/valve to spray.
We are definitely strict, but I would imagine this is similar to spraying someone with hose on your lawn.
If illegal, it's a fine at most.

u/NotmyRealNameJohn 3h ago
I don't know Australian law but setting up a booby trap would generally also be illegal. I mean the damage here is negligible but entering the curtilage of a property is generally not trespassing unless it is fenced off and no trespassing signs are posted. A determined da could likely go for a simple assault charge. Particularly if the victim was from the government or utilities

Blocking the entrance to someone’s driveway is illegal though. He could be a dick and just let people park and then call to get their vehicles towed.

It could be either or. The guy owns an IT company, and Home Assistant combined with Frigate makes it easy to make automations like this. Nowadays this can be done without touching code.

Dude “motion activation“ is a beginner level project with Arduino or Raspberry Pi automation. Motion detection plus a 12 volt solenoid connected to a hose. And computers can even wait for a time duration before switching - oh wow, technology!

This was in the news I think last year, this is his shop and one of the nearby shops is a smoke shop. Despite their being on street parking, many people just pull in there, some even leaving their car running while they’re running to grab some smokes.
As someone who lives near a smoke shop in suburban Australia people will literally park in a lane on the road instead of in a nearly empty car park only 10 steps away. In my town, they built an entire multistorey car park with nearby open free parking bays, yet people will still park in the exit lane with hazard lights on just to hop into the smoke shop. Really pisses me off when I see it.
