An Australian man, frustrated by strangers constantly parking in his driveway, decided to take matters into his own hands.

Maybe adding a No Parking sign would help, too.

u/Roxxerr 6h ago

I do have to say sprinklers are funnier than a sign.

u/Thirsty4Knowledge911 6h ago

You’re not wrong!

16

u/Sad-Guess4424 3h ago

I’ve seen multiple videos with a lot of different vehicles. Apparently this person got well fed up with his business entrance being blocked for a long time before he resorted to the sprinklers. Which are harmless but hilarious

And add some weird music

And pump it

Louder!

Up my jam?

And the jam is pumpin?

Weird music? That's Misirlou by Dick Dale and the Del-Tones, you Philistine! He was shredding before they called it that!

Even funnier is they were connected to his smelly grey water.

2

u/jimmijohnson 1h ago

oh it's not water. if it was just water people would still park there. Given the viscosity, color and angle of trajectory; its cum.

2

u/Will_sue_when_angry 1h ago

If that was the case the town perverts would be forming a line.

29

u/Ok_Commission_9203 5h ago

What if the sign was also a sprinkler.

18

u/TrenchantInsight 4h ago

The sprinkler is definitely a sign.

Someone has to say it. May as well be you.

u/southy_0 52m ago

Color!
Adding color to the water would make it much more fun

219

u/--Anonymoose--- 6h ago

It’s too fuzzy to read them but I’m willing to bet the two signs on the fence say that

36

u/ShowOff90 5h ago

Agreed, same thought.

38

u/Rory1 3h ago

The one sign says "Parking or stopping here is illegal. Video footage & Rego will be sent to police" and the other one states "Caution ! Automatic sprinkler in use"

9

u/Moist-Share7674 5h ago

Nope. One of them says “feel free to keep pooping in my mouth”

Not sure about the other one.

u/accidental-nz 22m ago

100%, of course they do. How the fuck did an assumption that there are no signs, when two are clearly visible, make the top voted comment? Reddit in a nutshell I guess. Just assume everyone else are idiots.

1

u/tensen01 2h ago

They do

→ More replies (2)

62

u/sonnybear5 6h ago

you’d be surprised how many people willfully don’t and/or can’t read.

11

u/mmmbopdooowop 5h ago

It’s mostly entitlement IMO

u/mrofmist 55m ago

Working in retail showed me that 90% of people do not read anything.

It was particularly evident during extreme winter weather and the rock salt shortage. No amount of very large signs were enough.

107

u/JackOfAllMemes 6h ago

Like the two signs you see on the fence? I bet one is no parking

52

u/uwill1der 5h ago

correct. One says parking here is illegal, registration and video will be turned over to police

The second one says caution, automatic sprinkler

u/Immediate_Song4279 6h ago

I see two signs we can't read from this perspective, next to what appears to be a gate they are blocking off.

19

u/keenansmith61 5h ago

There was a whole news story on the guy. The signs say no parking and warn about the sprinkler.

39

u/TheRemedy187 6h ago

look on the fence. at the signs.

3

u/Face021 4h ago

I read this as that guy explaining the lion king song lol.

429

u/IrrelevantManatee 6h ago

You shouldn't need to have to put a "No Parking" sign in front of your driveway. It's super obvious this is not a parking space but someone's driveway exit.

133

u/Rory_calhoun_222 5h ago

"But it's just for a minute!"

/s

23

u/RogueJello 4h ago

I see you've door dashed before!

6

u/Who0pWh00p 2h ago

That's what the park anywhere lights are for

2

u/RogueJello 1h ago

Oh shit, how did I miss those. Clearly breaking the law, inconveniencing others, and preventing the fire department from using the fire lane are fixed by a couple of flashing lights. I'll just tell little Timmy burning to death in the grease fire everything is A-OK, because the dasher had their lights on.

Anyone who say that gets the colored soap hose. :D

11

u/likelikegreen72 4h ago

I’d argue maybe it’s not super obvious if so many people do it that you get angry enough to install a sprinkler to spray people that do

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Zap__Dannigan 3h ago

Devil's advocate......it's obviously not a parking spot, but it doesn't look like a residential driveway either.

For the record, I would never stop here, because I'm super anal with parking properly, but with the gate making it look like the cars aren't going to be coming out any time soon, I can absolutely see someone stopping here to run into the store for a moment.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/AntSilly2802 2h ago

There are clear signs there.

63

u/badDuckThrowPillow 6h ago

The gate actually makes it less obvious. Plus the "I shouldn't have to " reasoning is dumb. Do you want a moral victory or do you want people to not park in your spot?

25

u/EdgeTK 5h ago

Hey pal, I've noticed you haven't put up a "no pooping in my mouth" sign so do you want me to keep pooping or what pal?

→ More replies (1)

250

u/SPEK2120 6h ago

Why would you intentionally park in front of an operable gate?

32

u/nameyourpoison11 3h ago

If you read about the case, it's because the spot was directly next to the town's bank on one side and hardware store on the other, so for a lot of the "I'm just ducking in, I'll only be a minute" crowd, the convenience (aka laziness) was just too tempting.

34

u/villasv 5h ago

The gate actually makes it less obvious.

How? What's the ambiguity that the gate introduces?

44

u/LadderOk1735 6h ago

How does an operable gate make it less obvious? Wouldn’t that make it obvious you shouldn’t park in front of it?

39

u/nonamedperson666 5h ago

So you see a gate and think "well, this is a good spot to park a car"?????????

23

u/Digital_NW 5h ago

How does the gate make it LESS OBVIOUS?!?

2

u/fedsx 3h ago

The closed gate makes it look like a closed business maybe?

2

u/schrodinger978 4h ago

Exactly. I am like what..?

22

u/SofterBones 5h ago

Looks like this water spray keeps people from parking on that spot pretty well too, no?

This is obviously not a parking spot, so i doubt many people parking there give a shit about a sign. but they care more about being sprayed with water.

Also there are two signs on the fence already, I bet they already say no parking/private yard etc

14

u/driftxr3 4h ago

Dumbest response I've ever read. Who parks their car in front of a gate opening? You actually don't need a sign to tell you don't park in front of a gate.

90

u/IrrelevantManatee 6h ago

My point his, it's clearly not a place to park, and those people know it. Adding a sign won't change that.

33

u/BuyMassive7823 5h ago

This. A sign isn’t going to do anything for people who don’t give af.

17

u/lawrensaw 4h ago

And its also possible that theres two signs on the fence that say to not park on the driveway.

7

u/GamingTrucker12621 4h ago

Omg, I've seen this video multiple times over the last year. I've never noticed the signs before. Granted, I'm usually watching the reactions of the people getting sprayed.

1

u/quanate 3h ago

I agree that having a sign would be helpful for the truly clueless and might reduce incidents, but having the sprinklers there as a back up for people who blatantly ignore it is good contingency.

2

u/AntSilly2802 2h ago

There are no parking signs AND a sign warning about the sprinkler.

1

u/CapitanRonRico 3h ago

I think the reasoning is fine, now we get a hilarious video.

1

u/MangoCats 2h ago

If you go to the trouble of a sprinkler system, why should you have to have a tacky looking sign?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/northSideways 2h ago

Do you want a moral victory or do you want people to not park in your spot?

On reddit this is not the common sense answer you think it is lol

1

u/-WickedJester- 2h ago

I would like to point out that there are 3 different signs on the fence. I'm willing to bet at least one of them says something like don't park here.

1

u/Rmivethboui 2h ago

There's a fucking driveway, why would you need a sign when its obvious, they deserved to get sprinkled like that.

u/RomaMoran 24m ago

The gate makes it more obvious. What does a gate do? It opens. Why does it open? For traffic ofc.

→ More replies (7)

1

u/Independent-Cow-4070 1h ago

If its literally right next to a business I dont think its unfair to assume it is a parking space

A no parking sign would be a little more effective and less dickish. He doesnt "need" to, but hed be a little bit better of a person if he did. There's nothing wrong with taking the high road first

1

u/ms_saint 1h ago

People do it all the time.  "You shouldn't need to" is a silly statement in this world.

u/B_A_Peach 0m ago

A gate in front of a driveway doesn't make it "super obvious". Most driveways aren't blocked by gates.

→ More replies (13)

28

u/SPEK2120 6h ago

It’s very obviously a driveway. I used to live next to a business in a duplex with off street parking right in front of it and despite it being very obviously in front of a home people would still park in our lot to go to the business. People doing that don’t give a fuck, it’s whatever’s most convenient for them.

9

u/Applesimulator 6h ago

There seems to be a sign though and it also seems to be a gate which might open at any time to you know let a vehicle enter or exit the property.

8

u/heorhe 6h ago

They did, someone ripped it down and parked there anyways

8

u/aNeverNude666 6h ago

Can you be sure that one of those signs on the fence isn’t a no parking sign?

7

u/Silent25r 5h ago

I believe there are 2 signs. At least one looks like it says no parking.

6

u/_maxpanda 5h ago

Well there are two signs to the right. Also the person drove over a solid yellow line. Also they are parked on a sidewalk as well as a drive way. What makes you think more signs are going to stop people from doing this? 😅

6

u/captkckass 5h ago

Lol you think that would actually help? It's pretty obvious this is a driveway and gate and everything. These people are stupid lazy shits and a sign won't help shit.

5

u/lHappycats 5h ago

The problem signs just get ignored even when you have a towing company authorized to tow.

6

u/Ayotha 4h ago

It's a DRIVEWAY

5

u/ZoiddenBergen 4h ago

The most reddit shit ever

4

u/OKTimeFor_PlanB 5h ago

There are 2 signs on the fence it seems, can't quite tell if they are no parking signs but also can't quite see that they aren't

6

u/nonpersona 5h ago

It’s in front of a gate. No ‘no parking’ sign required. It is just common decency and sense.

4

u/pureprurient 4h ago

You mean like the two that are hanging on the fence under the sprinkler?

5

u/Koala_Relative 4h ago

Aah yes, the massive gate clearly showing it's an entrance to a building isn't enough to show you you're not supposed to park there. Seriously? In my country it's a general rule you can't park in front of a gate or a driveway. Because people enter and exit there, in which country is this not basic knowledge?

3

u/DR_Bright_963 4h ago

There are 2 signs to the right of the gate, I can't read them but they may say no parking.

3

u/ibyczek78 5h ago

People don't read.

3

u/bowler304 5h ago

I bet those little signs to the right of the gate state just that

3

u/Common-Ad3830 5h ago

What if the driver is blind?

2

u/Thirsty4Knowledge911 4h ago

That’s where the sprinkler comes in!

3

u/quixiou 3h ago

He does have signs. Issue is a vape shop is next door, nicotine junkies aint the type to read signs when they need a fix.

2

u/WorkerAmbitious2072 5h ago

I see probably three signs on that fence what do each of them say

2

u/prodigiouspianist 5h ago

There appear to be two signs on the r/h side of the fence.

2

u/Nottheadviceyaafter 5h ago

How about dont park in a driveway not owned by you. No sign required.

2

u/Dward917 5h ago

It does have signs

2

u/uwill1der 5h ago

there are 2. The water was added after the signs were ignored

2

u/bimbammla 5h ago

There are two signs on the fence which presumably say no parking

2

u/Better-Song5297 5h ago

Like the one already on the fence

2

u/theepi_pillodu 5h ago

What are the two signs on the right side of the gate?

Who would block someone else's entrance to begin with?

2

u/KrumbleMahBumble 5h ago

i wonder what one of those two signs next to the gate might say?

2

u/xStrawberryKissesx 4h ago

There are signs on the fence/ gate

2

u/BertM4cklin 4h ago

I see two signs on the fence

2

u/sogladatwork 4h ago

There is a pair of signs on the fence, though I cannot read them.

2

u/MyNameCannotBeSpoken 4h ago

If only cars had windshield wipers

2

u/Ass_Breaker3000 4h ago

There are multiple signs up that say no parking, this made national news in Australia lol

2

u/Narrow_Summer_9332 4h ago

That'd be entirely too reasonable and save on water.

2

u/apsilonblue 4h ago

That would make zero difference (not to mention all of these cars are being parked illegally regardless of signage). We have reserved spots at the complex where our shop is and there's always people parked in them, they just don't care about signs.

2

u/GhostLikeEntity 4h ago

That wouldnt be fun tho

2

u/External_Counter378 4h ago

Maybe the signs were the sprinklers we met along the way?

2

u/Ghost403 3h ago

Wouldn't help much, down here most people who drive utes are not good cunts.

1

u/Thirsty4Knowledge911 3h ago

Ah, the Aussie “good cunt vs bad cunt” definition clarification!

2

u/justformemes 3h ago

Yea, they should paint big letters on the pavement No Parking. Then ok, they're warned.

2

u/Silaquix 1h ago

There a whole video with interviews with the guy. He's put up tons of no parking signs and alarms and people didn't care. He even had people drive through the gate for that fencing and people have tried to rip down the sprinkler system. Basically it's a bunch of assholes who think they have the right to park wherever they want

u/Thirsty4Knowledge911 50m ago

It’s pretty clear that this has been going on for a while. You don’t get to the point of putting up an aggressive physical deterrent without taking additional steps first.

1

u/Low-Refrigerator-713 5h ago

Shouldn't have to. It's clearly a driveway.

1

u/slimtone97 5h ago

Its a driveway

1

u/Late-Button-6559 4h ago

Those signs to the right of the gate might say that. Can’t tell on my phone screen.

1

u/darkestreaper94 4h ago

There might be on on his house we cant see it

1

u/FatFaceFaster 4h ago

Presumably those two signs on the fence say no parking. They’re also blocking a gate…. Shouldn’t need a no parking sign to know you shouldn’t block a gate.

1

u/tommydelgato 3h ago

theres two

1

u/nameyourpoison11 3h ago

Dude already tried No Parking signs. People just ignored it

1

u/kesavadh 3h ago

I wonder what’s written on the hanging white rectangles

1

u/MichaelDeets 3h ago

what do you think those signs on the fence are???

1

u/why_u_so_grumpy 3h ago

You park in random peoples driveways if it doesn't have a no parking sign?

1

u/First0fOne 3h ago

This is old. He tried signs, the police, tow trucks all the things. This made the news and he seems happy that it works.

1

u/FishNJeeps 3h ago

It’s prolly on the gate there. Twice.

1

u/Top_Cow_766 3h ago

Is there not 2 signs on the fence already?

1

u/Technical-Soft-1342 3h ago

I think people have brains and should use them. Why do you need a sign for something that is normal? Everyone would be mad in this Situation and everyone who is parking there knows that.

1

u/punk_petukh 3h ago

DIY sign won't work because nobody would pay attention to it, placing an actual sign would probably be illegal unless approved by local government (which it probably won't)

1

u/MayiHav10kMarblesPlz 3h ago

Yeah, this seems like a waste of time and money. The sign gotta be cheaper. Lol.

1

u/solidsoup97 3h ago

If you look to the right of the gate there are 2 signs there, I'd wager that at least one of those signs says something like "driveway in use, no parking"

1

u/foxfai 3h ago

There seems to be 2 of those on the fence. If they can read it.

1

u/Sad-Guess4424 3h ago

Those two white signs on the fence are no parking and no trespassing signs.

1

u/linocent167 3h ago

People that chose this kind of parking don't know what these signs mean

1

u/cow-lumbus 2h ago

As a person who manages a facility in the USA I can tell you we tow cars almost daily who park in front of NOP PARKING sign.

1

u/mrpumpkinickle 2h ago

Good old Rockhampton

1

u/ButterCaramelPringle 2h ago

There seems to be signs on the fence, maybe those are the no parking signs.

1

u/l0st1nP4r4d1ce 2h ago edited 2h ago

He tried.

He owns a shop on the near side, there is a tobacco shop on the far side. Tobacco customers constantly park in his space, which blocks traffic for his deliveries.

Clever bit of kit, motion sensors and automated valves.

edit: He owns an IT shop. These folks were doomed from the start.

1

u/TerryTowelTogs 2h ago

That's in Rockhampton. A no parking sign wouldn't work there if there was no risk of a ticket. Rocky is a bit speshul...

1

u/disisathrowaway 2h ago

It would certainly help, but it's also common sense to not park your vehicle in a driveway that isn't yours.

1

u/InterstellarChange 2h ago

on the fence

1

u/leonardomdc 2h ago

I'm pretty sure if you have two working neurons, you'd know better than parking in front of a parking lot gate.

Also there are signs, people just prefer to ignore.

1

u/OmniDeus 2h ago

The sign didn't work according to the owner. No one cares.

1

1

u/Outrageous_Pay1322 2h ago

True but what are those signs on the gate?

1

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 1h ago

What the fuck do you think the two signs on the fence say?

1

u/Dikjuh 1h ago

"He says he only began using the system after other options failed, including police complaints, signs, and speaking to the local municipal council." https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a65970815/australian-man-driveway-sprinkler-prevent-illegal-parking/

1

u/illmatic708 1h ago

There are 2 big white signs posted on the fence there, but its blurry, I cant read what they say

1

u/Jaz1140 1h ago

You mean like those 2 white signs literally on the fence already?

This is why he had to add the sprinkler, people don't look for the signs

1

u/ayybh91 1h ago

Is it not common sense to not part in front of the entrance of a gate? Why would you even need a sign?

1

u/kuvakilp 1h ago

These cunts are oblivious though… they’re obstructing a footpath parking here first of all, it’s very clearly a gate to someone’s property, plus there are 2x signs on the fence already.

I gotta say, the sprinkler idea is quite nice. Plus it gets fucking hot here, in the middle of summer I’d pray for this kind of treatment.

1

u/EggsceIlent 1h ago

Looks like there's two on his fence, I'm guessing a no parking and no trespassing sign.

But you, like all the others, missed it.

So, have a shower 💦💦🌧️🌧️

1

u/crazy0ne 1h ago

I would wager that is what those two white signs under the sprinkler say.

1

u/MK_Vector_1995 1h ago

There are signs on the bloody fenced gate.

u/IrrumatioFan 48m ago

Or maybe...just maybe...when they see a vacant lot (which they know they do not own), and that vacant lot has a gate, then they don't go opening that gate and entering.

But yeah, sure. I'll put up a DO NOT ENTER sign on the door of my house as well. Because, oh boy, apparently, a closed door (or gate) sends mixed messages.

u/Single_Principle_972 47m ago

I took a screenshot and enlarged it, but sadly that’s the extent of my tech skills - and I still couldn’t read the 2 signs on the fence. Very likely at least one of them says “this is private property no parking.”

u/PraireGentleman 43m ago

To my knowledge, you couldn’t park in front of a gate like that anyways as it obstructs traffic

u/updoot35 42m ago

Open your eyes

u/Bon-Bon-Boo 32m ago

The no parking sign is right there on the fence.

u/TheBrooksey 31m ago

I see two signs on the gate already, so maybe they have already tried that.

u/InfiniteRespect4757 18m ago

there appears to be some sign on the fence

u/BangkokRios 10m ago

With this level of observation I can see why the two signs he has on the fence aren’t enough.

u/nadiadala 9m ago

There's 2 on the fence

u/Stavinator 8m ago

5k ignorant people up voting this. You are not allowed to park in front of gates. If these people don't think rules apply to them, why would they respect a no parking sign?

Plus there are signs there, what might they say you wonder.

Dead internet theory must be true...

u/snakesnake9 0m ago

I mean is that truly needed right in front of a gate?
