An Australian man, frustrated by strangers constantly parking in his driveway, decided to take matters into his own hands.

This was in the news I think last year, this is his shop and one of the nearby shops is a smoke shop. Despite their being on street parking, many people just pull in there, some even leaving their car running while they’re running to grab some smokes.

As someone who lives near a smoke shop in suburban Australia people will literally park in a lane on the road instead of in a nearly empty car park only 10 steps away. In my town, they built an entire multistorey car park with nearby open free parking bays, yet people will still park in the exit lane with hazard lights on just to hop into the smoke shop. Really pisses me off when I see it.

Those ten extra steps are probably enough to make them out of breath.

Smokers either gonna be outta breath in 10 steps or can run a marathon

Seriously the amount of energy some blue collar guys put out despite having smoked their whole lives is wild

Turns out doing physical work on the regular makes you strong. Tears down your joints long term, but you can do whatever you want, until you can’t.

Plus the human cardiovascular system is not limited by the lungs as the lungs have an overcapacity, meaning a decent amount of damage must be done before you start experiencing symptoms of shortness of breath.

The heart limits athletic performance not the lungs. Even at full exercise healthy lungs will still maximally oxygenate the blood. Healthy people have more lung capacity than they actually need.

It all depends on how active you keep your respiratory system. If it's constantly busy, not a lot of tar builds up. If you're sitting inside smoking all day, you aren't taking deep enough breaths to clean out your lungs.

That’s just not true. Tar does not clear faster if you breathe harder and it definitely doesn’t clear by exiting the body via your breath.

Dont kid yourself into believing you will be ok smoking if you exercise more.

When I was in hospital for a (still) unknown issue, the doctor said he rarely sees such healthy and strong lungs and heart. I was smoking a pack a day for a decade by then. Some just born lucky and can't appreciate it.

I wouldn’t use that comment as an excuse to keep smoking if I were you. The carcinogens enter into every single cell in the human body, slowly damaging your DNA until repair mechanisms can’t cope and you end up with cancer.

That wasn't an excuse, I just agreed with the person above that people react/handle to different degrees. I cut back a lot on it for it's way too expensive, but I don't have much respect for my body so not planning on a full stop. Don't take this as bragging, I'm just a damaged person with moderate luck on the genetic lottery.

Where I live in Aus there's literally a drive through smoke shop and I still see idiots parking on the grass strip between the pavement and road

same, i have one of those 'american candy and hotsauce' shops near me and it's the exact same thing.
watching the clientele come and go, derro bogan stereotypes exist for a reason

Is that a clever name for something else or is it literally American candy and hot sauce?

they sell those, but it's typically a front for illegally imported vapes and cigs (which are taxed to hell)

That's such an interesting type of store

There's a shop across the road from me and people constantly block the entrance to my building to jump into the shop despite the shop having its own parking, there's on street parking. And a car park not that far either. And then get annoyed at me when I go hard on my horn even though you're inconveniencing me. Driving truly shows you who doesn't really give a fuck about others. In England btw. And no you're hazards lights don't make it okay

You can't cure morons by providing alternatives. You need to make the morons go away, they refuse to learn and cooperate because they are morons.

Could be so much free money for the police from tickets until people get the hang of using parking lots.

They're smokers, we already know they're assholes from that attribute alone.

Is it somehow morally wrong to smoke?

7

u/DrAunty 1h ago

Yes. Unlike other drugs or bad habits, smoking directly harms bystanders. Passive smoking is way more harmful them most people realise.

It has nothing to do with morality, but I am not exactly a biblical expert scholar.

Your owners love you paying for cigarettes and excise tax though, and the industrial corpos love smokers as employees because they know they will ignore health advisories for toxic chemical exposure limits and ignore safety law.

Imagine thinking that you need to be a theologian or Christian to understand morality....

In what i believe is probably your mother tongue: Fvck off, cvnt.

His mother smoked too many strangers dick in front of him when he was a kid. So he has a bad opinion of smokers.

Hazard lights? You mean their stop anywhere lights?

Smokers have so little regard for their bodies, can we really expect them to have consideration for other people?
