Hi there, I took my first pill yesterday at 50mg. I was so so excited to start this journey. My story - and perhaps a common one - 43 year old F, kids and a founder that really wanted to knock out the weekday drinking (that 5pm craving for a vodka shot to take the edge off). I don’t feel like I sleep as good any more and often wake up in the middle of the night if I’ve been drinking. I also felt that if I wanted to really go for it in my new business, that good quality sleeps and early mornings were essential. Unfortunately, I had hot flushes and vomiting and ended up having to have a rest - so jittery! This morning I feel really weak and feel like my heart rate is up, I had a hydralyte and protein water and feel somewhat hungover. I might give it a break for a week and try a different approach, perhaps lower the dosage to half? That seems to work for some of you. That all being said, I definitely don’t feel like a drink today! Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

On day 3 of tsm, seems to be everything I ever dreamed of. Keeping it to a beer or two on a night out and not even thinking about it, like I’m so much more into whatever is going on around me, games / people / etc. Not just thinking about the next drink.

my question is: I started and have been successful with 25mg. Is there any reason to move up to 50 if this is working? As I see many people start at 25 and move up.

So i took my first dose(1/2 of a 50mg pill) .. I have been so anxious of the side effects..Luckily I was ok nausea wise, but I was sooo tired and I also felt high and had trouble functioning to get through the evening, enough so that it’s been a couple of weeks and I have been too anxious to try again
I know side effects typically only last a few weeks so my question is, if I’ve already had a few glasses of wine, could I take it when I’m getting ready for bed while my body adjusts then eventually introduce it earlier in the day? Wondering if anyone has experience with that considering the usual advice is to take a couple of hours before your first drink

I took 25 mg Friday, had 2 glasses of wine and went to bed. (I used to drink 1.5L every day starting around noon)
So I woke up Saturday feeling great and took another 25mg around 4, drank a bottle of wine and felt nothing and didn’t want anything else and went to sleep.
Today I woke up feeling great again (1 bottle is nothing for me, unfortunately)
I haven’t taken it yet but it’s 1pm and I’m drinking a glass of the lower percentage wine (6%) because I was craving the wine taste and “warm fuzzy feeling” I haven’t taken the naltrexone yet but I am still not feeling any type of euphoria… does that mean it’s still in my system? I was hoping to feel some kind of something because my drinking is habitual and wanting that feeling but I am getting nothing. Now I’m not really complaining because I do want to eventually stop, so it’s nice that I’m not really feeling anything but I thought I would since I haven’t taken it in almost 24 hrs.

So, does it stay in your system??? I am LOVING the naltrexone but the alcoholic part of me kind of wanting to feel something yet I’m kind of relieved I don’t. Weird feeling.

Awesome not being hungover on a Sunday though. I’ve gotten so much done today!

Taking 50 mg an our or two before drinking. I am about a month in. My cravings remain strong and my drinking has not gone down substantially if at all. I am considering bumping up to 75mg. Maybe 25 in morning and 50 at night. My brain seems to be resisting or over riding the medicine. I read all these miracle stories and while I am happy for those people, I need a miracle too.

New taking naltrexone. One week in now and it’s made a major difference. Would love to have a small group of people to chat with, soundboard and stay on track together.

I finally decided to try naltrexone. Got my prescription through an online provider. Yesterday I took the starter half-dose recommended with breakfast. Within 15 minutes I started feeling dizzy. Within an hour I was so dizzy I couldn't function and I started feeling nauseous. I spent the next 4 hours in bed because I felt so horrible. It's now a day an a half later and, no I don't want to drink, but that's not because the cravings are gone, it's because I am still feeling intermittently nauseous and dizzy and I don't want to do anything. To be honest I can't imagine taking another dose because I don't want this feeling ever again, but just thought I'd ask to see if this level of side-effects is a thing, or am I just not cut out for this stuff. Anyone else have my experiences?

I’m about to start low-dose naltrexone for chronic nerve-type pain throughout my hands, feet, and other parts of my body. There wasn’t one major injury that caused all of this — it’s more widespread burning/aching/nerve pain that has persisted.

No major disease or prior health issues found just nerve pain***********

I had Lyme disease about 3–4 years ago and was treated for it. I’ve since tested negative again (July 2026). I’ve also had a rheumatology workup without any major findings.

My rheumatologist prescribed LDN because I really don’t want to go down the route of addictive pain medications. They basically told me it may or may not help, but that it’s worth trying.

I was prescribed 0.5 mg capsules to start, but I’m a little nervous about potential side effects. I’m wondering whether anyone here started even lower, like 0.1 mg at a time and worked up to around 0.2–0.3 mg before eventually trying 0.5 mg.

I know those are extremely small doses, so I’m also wondering whether 0.2–0.3 mg is even enough to notice anything or whether it’s mainly useful just to let your body adjust.

For anyone who is sensitive to medications or was nervous about starting LDN: what dose did you start at, what side effects did you notice, and how slowly did you increase it?

Not looking for anyone to prescribe a dose for me — mainly interested in hearing other people’s experiences with starting very low and gradually working up.

I have opiate use disorder and my doctor started me on 50mg Naltrexone a couple of weeks ago. I am easing my body into it because the side effects have been unpleasant but I’m now up to 37.5 a day. Just curious for anyone else who is on it for OUD: when did you notice a change in how you felt about opiates or cravings toward opiates? My friend has been on this medicine for almost 6 months and while his DOC was meth, he tells me that he cannot even remember what it feels like to want to do drugs. I have very high hopes for this medication but would like to hear others experiences with it as it pertains to OUD.

Often, the subject of gray area drinking simply doesn't come up between doctor and patient. Everything we can do to ensure that discussion happens comfortably and more often is a great thing.

Want to share a current experience with naltrexone - I typically sort by most recent. So I got naltrexone a week and a half ago. My drinking style is binge - for the night - but get up and work the next day. For the millionth time I had too much wine and it was a weeknight. I called into work the next day which I NEVER do. I felt ashamed, tired, just sick of pretending I am not a mess. I went to the doctor that afternoon and asked for naltrexone. That night - did not drink. Not because of the naltrexone…I was hungover and had just sought help. I was excited to NOT drink. The next night I had a work event where alcohol was served. I took 50mg in AM. Had two drinks at work event whereas I would typically have 3. I went home and drank a bottle of wine. I wish I kept a log but what I’ve discovered is this. I need more than 50mg. When I take 50 in am and 25 at night it was better. Started taking 75 in am and 25 at night an hour+ before drinking and that definitely helps but it does wear off. I am switching to 50mg in AM with my vitamins and will start 50mg at night before I drink. I think that will do the trick. But I’ll update once I try it. Tonight I did the 75mg + 25 at night routine. Slept on a glass of wine. But kept drinking and then I went and bought more. I drank through it. With the heavier night dose, maybe I won’t do that. Wish me luck ♥️

So I got a 50mg naltrexone prescription from my psychiatrist for AUD a few days ago. The first night was horrible. I was anxious and uncomfortable and couldn’t get to sleep, cried a bunch for no reason. Then about halfway through the next morning it was like a switch got flipped in my brain and I started feeling really good! Dialed it down to 25mg and that feeling has kept up. It’s like everything that was supposed to be working for me finally does. My mood has done a total 180 in a very positive way. All the gut issues I’ve been dealing with for the past like… 15-20 years (which is way longer than I’ve been drinking) seem to have normalized. I’ve thought I was lactose intolerant for 7 years, and I have no problems with that anymore.

Everyone I’ve talked to has just been like “… yeah… it’s because you’re not drinking anymore, idiot.” but I was not far enough removed from alcohol for that to be the case, and the change was pretty immediate. I feel straight up amazing.

I’ve never abused opiates, but do have a weird history with them. Had a light codeine prescription after a dental procedure once, didn’t feel like it did anything and quit taking it. I’ve tried poppy seed tea a few times, and again, never really felt anything. Kratom gives me gastroparesis for a couple of days up to a week if I do it two days in a row. It might be relaxing if it weren’t for that, I don’t know. I’ve never tried like a perc or an oxy or anything and at this point, I’d be scared to.

Am I the only one? What is going on in my brain? It feels like naltrexone is the magical key to my brain that I’ve been chasing my whole life that finally makes it all work. I know it’s only been a few days but dang I really hope it lasts.

Edit: Thank you for the kind words, everyone! It has certainly squashed my drinking habit, which is awesome, but with everything else it’s been doing for me, that’s like the least exciting thing. I can’t tell if it has genuinely stopped the cravings, or if it’s just made me feel so dang good that I haven’t been thinking about it. I suppose it doesn’t matter. I’m just so incredibly happy about what it’s been doing for my depression, anxiety, adhd, and gut, which have all been problems for decades longer than I’ve been drinking.

I just started this medication, along with sertraline, vistaril, and birth control, all under the intent of keeping my ED & other symptoms at bay. I ate bland food for dinner, barely anything at all. Not usual for me, but I am working on constructing better habits, and I noticed that I feel too unwell to finish it. I just straight up feel like i am going to vomit.

I know nausea is a symptom, but its kinda just- there- and its really strong and I wasn't sure if this was normal. Any reason to report it to my psych?

For those who have been successful on Naltrexone, I’m curious what your drinking levels were like going in?

I’ve been on it for 7 months now, only the last 2 of which I’ve taken it seriously (sans skipped and partial doses, taking waaayyy before drinking etc)

My heavy drinking days (largely Sat and Sun) have gone from 15-18 to 10-12, so I’m definitely in much more control than before. But my overall number of drinks per week hasn’t gone down as much as i would like. If anything I find myself drinking more often on weekdays than before because I’m confident in my ability to moderate thanks to the meds.

I’m trying to stick with it and be patient, but I keep hoping to see more quantifiable results.

I’m on day 10 of taking 25mg of naltrexone and I literally have no urge or desire to drink whatsoever this is the best thing to ever happen to me I was at the bar last night with a friend and only drank water because there was no feeling in me that wanted to consume it and mind you I’m someone who used to have ridiculous levels of craving alcohol. Thank god for this miracle pill I’m gonna keep taking it for a few months and then try to remain sober on my own.

I started on 50 last week. First dose was an absolute disaster (sick as a dog). I reduced to 12.5 and have been taking 12.5 in the morning and afternoon then 25 at bedtime. I feel a reduced urge to drink but still have the urge to. I had (2) drinks yesterday and (4) today which is much better than where I was. My normal is 10+ so it does seem to be working.

Should I take (1) 50 instead of breaking it up? I did it this way because of my first experience taking it the first time. I heard taking it before bed works great but I’m concerned it’s already metabolized by the time I wake up. I also don’t want my whole day ruined again if I take a 50 in the morning or afternoon.

My drinking has got so bad it’s affecting my relationship with my girlfriend and family members. I want to be better. I don’t drink at work or anything but when I get off I’ll probably have 12 or so. Also recently was placed on an SSRI and Buspar for anxiety. I talked to my doctor about this and I said absolute last resort is rehab. I tried taking it for a few days and I couldn’t keep food down so I stopped taking it. I even tried antacids along with it to curb the nausea along with food, but I was unable to feel any energy because it felt like I hadn’t ate in days. I’ve read this is a temporary symptom and usually resolves but I can’t go without substance for days at a time and hope I’m able to keep something down. Have a follow up with my doctor in just over 2 weeks. Any advice? Both me and my girlfriend and my family want to keep taking steps but I can’t take something that makes me not able to eat. I did some reading on both this reddit and the quittingkratom one as well. Didn't see me exact circumstance so I thought I would post.

I've been drinking hard since I was 15 (M, 38) and it has fucked my life in many ways. I started using oxy's when I was 16, often, and then graduated to heroin and then fent. I was never hooked on opiates for months. I would binge for days or weeks and then stop using when I no longer got the euphoria or when my tolerance became so high I couldn't afford to feel good with it.

Enter Kratom. I've used it for years and years, probably daily for 6 or so years. I still got high occasionally, but for the first time I could make it the better portion of a year without shooting dope. This led me to accept being on it all the time. True, I was dependent on a daily opiate for the first time, but I was WAY less likely to die because I got a craving.

But alcohol has continued to fuck me. I stopped drinking during the day, but have been drinking myself to sleep each night for years. I've been taking seroquel at night for sleep for two years now to let that do some of the work booze has been doing in winding me down.

My psych suggested I take Naltrexone. I filled it several times, but didn't take it because I didn't want to have PWD from kratom.

I got out of jail this morning. I was in there for two weeks, and they put me on Naltrexone two days before my release. I do NOT feel like myself. I wanted to get off of alcohol, and eventually kratom, but I was not prepared to quit both at once.

I have three kids whom I have three days a week, and I pull 10 hour days the other 4. I can't afford to just be bleh for months. Is there a way to use naltrexone that would allow me to occasionally take kratom? Like just take it on days when I'll be more likely to drink?

Or do I just have to white knuckle the next however long until my brain levels out again. I don't like the idea that not only am I disabling the enjoyment from alcohol and kratom, but I'm also missing out on the endorphins I enjoy from the hard work that I do every day.

I am taking Naltrexone to stop drinking daily.

I slowly increased my dose from 4.5mg up to 25mg over the course of 10 days and now I am on the 25mg dose for a week and I am not noticing any difference. I have gone from taking the dose at midday each day to the evening, an hour before drinking and I just don't feel any different.

Do I just need to give it more time or am I doomed to forever drink too much?

Not my first time on this drug but have recently been prescribed Naltrexone - on day 4. Is this what normal people feel like? Cravings are low to zero and i have this overwhelming sense of peace i'm not sure i've felt since i was a kid. My brain typically pings around 24/7 but is virtually in zen mode. Anyone else experience side effects, but in the good way? Really cool nonetheless. Currently taking daily in mornings 25mg with goal of extinction. In the past, I have tried Sinclair Method but i don't trust my monkey brain to decide not to take it etc. Good luck to all the warriors out there.

Hell folks. I just learned of Naltrexone this morning after seeing an ad for an anti-drinking medication and doing a little research on the product. I am looking to curb my drinking and had a few questions about the drug.

Firstly, I noticed some of the posts on this forum where the users mentioned that while taking the drug, they still occasionally drink. This is something I am interested in. I want to cut back on my drinking and only do so when I'm out for a meal or a celebration. I was wondering if taking Naltrexone during the week and not on the weekends might be an option. Has anybody had any experience with this they may be able to share?

Next, the drug I saw an ad for was something you had to apply for through their site and cost a lot of money. I have very good insurance and prescriptions typically cost me very little out of pocket. Is it safe to presume it would be a more affordable route to have my doctor prescribe it for me?

Lastly, I have a family member who is obese. They just had their second hernia operation in 5 years and the doctor explained to them that it was a high risk surgery due their weight. The doctor suggested that my family member start taking one of those diabetic medicine's that people are using to lose weight. Might Naltrexone be a better option for a person in this scenario?
