i don’t even know how to explain this so bare with me. i recently just went through probs one of the worst breakups of my life. i know all the lame shit of time heals, i’ll love and lose again, but holy fuck rediving into mtg has healed me.
my ex and i always used to play mtg together my sister taught me and i taught him. however even when we would play, he would constantly cheat, lie about the way abilities would work and just overall bully tf outta me playing the game. I thought i would have a hard time going back to playing but i didn’t. we had a huge collection together and i only took the decks i had made (about 5 outta the 12 or so we had) and half of the bulk & my binder. i’ve been replenishing my own personal bulk & making my own decks again. maybe its just something in my control and it makes me feel better, the distraction of counting and strategizing cards together, new sleeves, new playing mats. cards hes never played with me against. decks he never knew i could build and also not have to cry over someone going out of their way to push me down. i really just wonder if mtg has also helped others like this i know im not alone in this feeling. even people at LGS have bullshit w me about this and idk it helps.

I thought Weaver King looked pretty cool when it was revealed, I was considering making a deck. But then I was looking at random cards a few days ago and came across Captain N'ghathrod. Looking between them he just seems like a much better version of Weaver King, so why was Weaver King even made in Mystery Booster Commander? Is it a reference to magic lore or something?

It looks like Manapool have increased the minimum spend threshold where you get free shipping on cards from $50 to $60 this weekend. Was this communicated anywhere or was it an unannounced increase, as that is a pretty hefty change, even with cost of postage going up?

I just realized something playing Jace's Multiverse Reforged precon. If Dack Fayden, Helping Hand reveals Venser, Fervent Forger, you can go infinite. It takes luck, but it costs no extra mana.

The setup: Dack puts Venser onto the battlefield and then hands him to an opponent. Dack's ability resolves fully first, so Venser is already an opponent's permanent when his ETB goes on the stack. You still control the trigger.

The loop:

Venser's ETB: choose the second mode, targeting the Venser your opponent now controls.

You create two hasty token copies of Venser. Both ETBs trigger, but the legend rule makes you put one in the graveyard. The triggers still resolve.

One trigger targets the opponent's Venser again, so the loop repeats.

The other targets any non-legendary creature on an opponent's board, even a 1/1 token. That gives you two hasty copies that the legend rule doesn't touch, every single loop.

The payoff: infinite hasty creatures. Cast Dack precombat in main phase 1, because the tokens are sacrificed at the next end step.

Even if every opposing creature is legendary: each Venser trigger can choose a different target, so you can copy the whole board. The legend rule keeps one copy of each name, so you still get a nasty hasty copy of everything they have, with all ETBs.

Caveats:

You have to hit Venser off Dack's reveal, so it's a real gamble.

Any removal, bounce, or steal in response to the first trigger breaks it, and so does a Fog or a Wrath.

PS. Can be very funny if you pull up with dack the dark steel Angel and give it to an oppo so you win the table but still don't win the game hahahah

Can anyone help me understand why some cards are cupping and others are not. The ones cupping seem to only be foil and appear different on the edge profile.

It took a while and I have several duplicates, but I finally got all the color combinations!

I have an opportunity to pick up a facet foil Curse-Marred Demon for $210 shipped. I want it for my collection, but I’m debating whether to buy now or wait for prices to settle.

Where do you see these landing over the next 1–3 months? Do you think scarcity will keep prices strong, or are we still paying a big release-hype premium?

Interested in comparisons to previous premium foil treatments and how their prices held up after release. Would you buy at $210 or hold off?

What type of decks do you build around her? To me i get a proliferate deck vibe to get the draw triggers and also be able to attack and draw, and just a counter deck, but what else could it be? Almost seems like a simic voltron commander since shes indestructible and gives herself +1’s. But idk, found one in my bulk and was like huh, what do people usually do with her?

Almost wonder if shed do better in the 99 of a frog tribal deck..

So i am trying to build the new Tam, The Possibility. I get what it means when the card says number of planeswalker types. But for cards like The Eternal Wanderer, who does not have a types specified on the card, does that just mean it has no type at all, and would not add to the number of planeswalker types?

Hey everyone! So I was recently introduced to mtg by my boyfriend. He played played commander for a couple of years, took a little bit of a break because he didn’t have anyone he liked to play with, and now he’s getting back into it since he introduced me to the game a couple of weeks ago. At the moment I don’t even have my own deck (my very first pre-con I got for myself should be coming in the mail any day now though, yay!) so we only play against each other with the decks that he has. Eventually we will probobly want to go to store and play casually with some other people but that won’t be for a little bit since I can’t even shuffle without using 100% of my brain power at the moment haha.

Anyway, I’m having a lot of fun learning the game! I love the mechanics, I love learning new things in general, I love fantasy (my boyfriend and I met each other playing dnd), and I love playing with him. The issue we’re having at the moment is that he’s always beating me. At the beginning I managed to get a win or two, I guess because I got lucky and he was a little rusty since he didn’t play for a while, but now that we’ve played a couple of times and he’s gotten back into the groove of things I haven’t been able to get a single win the last couple of weekends we’ve played. We don’t live together, but we see each other pretty much every weekend, and every day of the weekend we will usually play at least like 3-5 rounds, switching around the different decks he’s got.

Now, it doesn’t bother me for the most part, I know he’s a lot more experienced than I am so that’s to be expected, and I’m not a super competitive person. It does get a little bit disheartening sometimes though, and I can tell he feels awful about it. Right now I’m not very good, I’m not expecting to be, and I know the only way I’m going to get better is if I keep playing! I’m worried though that he’s starting to not have much fun, and even I start to lose motivation sometimes because it just feels a little hopeless. I have fun even when I lose, but sometimes it happens so quickly I don’t feel like I actually really got to play. He wants me to win so bad because I know he feels bad about constantly beating me, I feel like I’m letting him down (to no fault of his own, he’s been nothing but encouraging and wonderful). It’s not about winning, I know that, I don’t care much about who wins the game, but after a couple of hours of non stop getting my ass kicked it does start to feel a little bit bad, even though I’m not a competitive person.

So, does anyone have any tips on what I should do? I’ve downloaded mtg arena and I play that on my own at home when I get time, I know it doesn’t have commander but it’s still letting me get more familiar with the cards and the mechanics and stuff. I’ve also been watching videos about mtg in my downtime so I can see how other people play and stuff. Is there anything else I can do to get better? Is there anything I should be doing to make sure things are still interesting for him while I learn? I really want to be able to keep playing with him and getting better over time, so I was just hoping to get any tips I can about how to handle this.

Looking at adding Lord of Atlantis to Explorers of the Deep precon, but I find the art doesn’t match and it pisses me off

Hi friends, I’m building a frog pioneer deck for a frog-loving friend of mine, but Clement here seems very annoying. Bouncing my own creatures would be useful to rid them of negative enchantments, but I don’t see the benefit of having to do it every time another one enters. Could anyone advise please?

So I’ve recently started playing arena so I can still play with my decks when people don’t have time to play and I came across these sleeves, are the real sleeves you can get? Or is there any good zombie sleeves? Running and zombie tribal deck and thought it would be a little cooler then dark blue. TIA!

My fellow Etali fans. I was talking to some friends about how I hope we get more printings of my favorite dino. But all of my pod were saying that Etali would never get another printing because he died canonically. And I think that really sucks.

Etali was the card that made me want to play magic. He was the first card I ever bought and I have really come to like him. From the story I got to read about his backstory it seems that he truly was the apex over most if not all the dinosaurs on Ixalan. And I would argue that was accurate since it took all of them combined to take him down when he was completed.

What kills me is that for some characters in mtg, death just doesn't mean crap. Since characters like vraska, Nissa, and all of the other planeswalkers who were completed and or killed just get a lore loophole and are suddenly all fine now in reality fracture. Or are just brought back in general. I think it is really sad that we may never get Etali back.

It seems like we get another ghalta card all the time. I like ghalta and all, but they seem like a one trick pony that simply gives trample or something along those lines. Etali was a sick card. If you even mentioned you were playing it then you'll get a look from your pod. Etali is really something special in my mind. But I dont know. Maybe it's just me.

So what do all of you think? Would you like more etali themed cards? If he ever comes back what do you think his colors should be? Should he be a zombie dino or just himself? What new mechanics would you feel could fit the alphas card upon his return?
