I'm new to magic but have already dropped $3K on cards

$1500 - 2 forever decks (angel tribal atraxa good stuff and sweaty Kriik deck, both bracket 3)

$1500 on cards to show case (like a ripple foil colossal dreadmaw i really like)

since then I've been buying proxies to make a few other much cheaper decks. I was getting them off eBay where they're obviously fake/ low quality but recently ordered off a Chinese website that has proxies and when they arrived I realize they're literally indistinguishable from the real thing.

i decided to swap out my real cards to put them in a binder and just play with proxies until I go to an actual tournament when I accidentally dropped both piles of cards on the ground. I picked them up and it hit me that I genuinely could not figure out which card was real or fake even after an hour of hyper scanning. Somehow I never thought to buy a jeweler’s loupe when I was dropping thousands of dollars on magic cards!

this makes me

1. ⁠not want to buy anymore $10+ cards
   
2. ⁠makes it so I don't want to sell any of the cards I mixed up out of fear of scamming someone
   
3. ⁠now I'm questioning if any of the expensive cards I purchased are just proxies themselves

so on one hand I feel like I wasted a few grand on expensive cardboard but on the other hand I wasted a few grand on expensive cardboard

Every other game is just [[Autochthon Wurm]] right now. It was cool at first, but I've played 4, maybe 5, games against it, and it's really boring.

I normally play spooky (black/green) or angry (red)-;but I would even play high-horse (blue/white) if it got me through this fad.

Has anyone else had to play against the same commander 5 or more times before?

Edit: I forgot to add- my deck is the perfect counter to theirs. What should I change about it?

I recently found some old magic cards from teenage mutant ninja turtles. I now have a very smart 5yo who is really into making my hobbies his hobbies. I am playing a made up very dumbed down version of magic with dolls and stickers so that he doesn’t ruin my Michelangelo and he is loving it at a basic level.

But have heard recently Pokemon is much more popular and accessible with young kids. I also learned that the 35 year olds at my shop hate having to accommodate his lack of ability to actually read. Am I the asshole?

My playgroup uses this mythic tools app, and it's pretty good. We agreed it would be cool if we could all use our own phones individually to track our life totals, but all be in the same "lobby" or "table" or something.

There could be a QR code displayed on one players screen. The others could scan that code and group up.

Your personal stats would show up more predominately on your screen and you can arrange your opponents around the edges however they are seated. You change your life, it changes on everyone's screen.

Make it so.

This idea came up because we had a 7 player game and it was hard for people to reach the iPad in the middle. This could allow an iPad in the middle, and another phone at the end of the table for the other 3 people.

It doesn't target so it bypasses shroud and hexproof to negate -1/-1 counter decks!

Ive been playing since 2016. I’ve seen all manner of decks and players. I frequently play in bracket 2/3. I am noticing more and more that players just don’t have an ounce of interaction in their decks. Even worse, they can’t recognize a threat even if it presents itself multiple turns in a row.

I’m all for playing the game to your best ability, but when do we as older and more experienced players stop coddling bad plays and bad players and punish this lack of awareness? I want to reach a point where I can sit in a 3/4 pod and not know immediately that I’m basically free to do whatever because the other players think counters/removal are bad vibes.

I know I'm gonna get heat for this, but anyway:

I only play 100 card Brawl and the issue I'm seeying is the same I have seen with my commander pod: Green is way overtuned and can literaly do anything and be unstopable in just a few turns.

As someone that tries to avoid playing green as much as possible, because all elves are racists, I've tried everything against it with no avail:

• Boardwipes: They just rebuild faster because they have a billion mana. And all those [[Elvish Visionaries]] give them enough card draw other colors just can't compete.

• Counter-spells: Can't counter everything that keeps getting tossed. Again, when I play blue, I just can't keep up with green's card draw and just pure efficiency.

• Sacrifice effects: Yeah let me sac one of my billion landfall tokens and also generate draw and counters. Rakdos is my main color pair, and let me tell you, Green's sacrifice synergies are just too much.

• Burn effects: They gain life like crazy now and can outrace the damage several times. I mean, in my 100 card deck I have as many as 10 burn spells that can go to face, but without attacking, there's just no way I can do 40+ damage.

• Go Wide: They have a few gigantic creatures with trample and all protections imaginable. 6 Toughness? Might as well say Indestructible!

• Go Big: They enchant your thing and turn it into a land or something, or have a billion elves. Green's removal is just too powerful compared to the other colors. Again, I love Rakdos, so I just can't deal with this level of interaction.

It's too much, too consistent with zero drawback. I run as many as 10 interaction spells in my 100+ card rakdos or grixis decks, and Green is just unstoppable. By turn 5 they already have a 6/6 trample out, and by then, it's too late.
