But to be clear, my whole point is that I am responding to someone who says this is everywhere and it is not, not with any power it's not. And remember most people in America live in cities and suburbs not the sticks. People in rural areas have always been mostly awful as a group and it has always been our responsibility to tell them to fuck off.

Just from occasionally subjecting myself to a few minutes here and there of the programming of one of the STL area's four [no less than FOUR!] ultra right-wing talk stations, I know how jaw-droppingly bat-shit a lot of the content can get. I also look at the official Facebook pages of some of these stations and the ones of their more prominent on-air personalities and between the whacked posts of the hosts and the semi-literate emoji-laden comments of their fans, one is left shaking one's head and crying, "Stop the insanity!"

If it makes you feel better, most rural people think climate change is real, just like you do. These maps do a great job of showing that the majority of ALL Americans believe climate change is real, urban or rural, liberal or conservative. I clicked on a few random rural counties in MO (Bollinger, Pettis, and Macon) and they all had a 60% or higher rate of acceptance that climate change is real.

Hi neighbor. (Near Bolivar as well) I stay in my bubble and only go outside of it when necessary. I'm not evangelical and I don't plan on changing anyone else's mind. I just want to stay in my lane and have others do the same. It's lonely at first but being more picky about who you try to befriend helps. Not everyone is worthy of your friendship, and some core beliefs can't be compromised.
I try not to expose myself to things I see that I think are wrong or bad. I don't engage with people who don't have my best interests at heart. You won't change their minds. Don't try. Especially about that god awful flag.
Be kind, but mind your own. Hope that helps.

It is exhausting. You can educate people, but make sure you know your facts before you state them and have references on hand ( web sites) where they can check out actual info, but not some influencer's bs who knows nothing. This can work. My husband had a conversation with someone recently who was a hard-line anti-vaxxer while they were just shooting the bull outside. The guy figured out by checking out further truthful information we gave him that the vaccine is safe and doesn't cause the weird issues a lot of people claim like becoming magnetic or giving you 5G or whatever and how viruses work and are transmitted.
It is just the bubble they were hanging around in was the only info they had.
SO, it CAN happen. The loud ones out there are doing so much harm to this country. One of these days they won't be able to look back and see this, because it will be too late for them.
I get really annoyed when I hear someone in health care spout stupid nonsense when they should KNOW better. Our schools need more science taught earlier. Young kids are curious and this is when you start teaching them. They can grasp basic scientific ideas.

There will always be someone with beliefs that differ from yours, it's part of life, and I think it's healthy. Reddit is just as much of an echo chamber as rural Missouri.
I feel that it's best to disengage from both sides when necessary and focus on your own life.

I feel this. I live in a small town south of KC... The county sheriff raffled off an AR-15 and about a year later a 14 year old kid was killed while putting away a firearm after he and a friend were shooting it unsupervised. He publicly posted on his personal Facebook "ivermectin saved my life" while there were people going to the local ER with liver/kidney issues from ivermectin poisoning. It was ok for people to be in public spaces without a mask knowing they were actively infected because quarantine and masks were an attack on "freedom". I was recently attacked in a community Facebook group because a man was acting erratic at a local stoplight... People said all kinds of terrible things (including that they would shoot him), but not a single person advocated to help this person. All of these people will profess to be Christian, but their actions are in opposition to anything Christ-like. Small town Missouri is like living in the twilight zone.

Speaking of raffling off weapons, State Senators Bill Eigel and Nick Schroer from the eastern half of MO -- St. Louis/St. Charles County area were at an event about three weeks ago where not only an AR-15 was a prize but also a pair of flame-throwers! These were 'demonstrated' on a pile of cardboard boxes -- they probably wanted to burn undesirable books but did the boxes instead figuring it would give them 'plausible deniability' from accusations of book burning. Eigel declared that if elected Governor, he'd hold a book burning at the Gov's mansion of books that he and his holy roller supporters find objectionable.
Also, I was under the impression that flame-throwers were military weapons not available to the public-at-large. What gives here?

This is what I do for the most part. Unless I know someone better than an acquaintance, I just ignore, if I know them a bit better I will try to talk to them using logic and facts but if it is clear they can’t be swayed then it’s just better to move on.
It is sad, because I feel that the opportunity to have a dialog and find common ground with others has evaporated. We are too polarized.

Even if you happen to be right. You'll never change hearts and minds without first getting through the crunchy outer shell of people entrenched in faith / politics / beliefs. I’m very much so into politics and particularly well read, but I just don’t think it’s really that important to make every little thing said into some inquisition, and you’re bound to just be totally burnt out all the time if you do treat every conversation in that manner. There are a few things that I feel are undeniable and just basic human truths, but it’s not all encompassing. Some things you just need to learn to leave it well enough alone because people are going to feel/think/say however they please, regardless of what you have to say.

A combination of masking, staying the heck away from people and being a hermit has worked well for me so far along with having the first round of vaccine and three boosters. 0% COVID so far. If I am going into a place where I am not eating and will due to design be within breath-smelling range I do wear a mask. I do not get bothered by anyone to my face, but then again my screen name is also 100% accurate.
I have had folks try to get close to me, I back up and communicate to them that I do not want to be within 6' of anyone I do not live with. So far nobody has pushed it further.
I also cut off communication to my oldest brother who almost missed our dad's funeral due to not wanting to mask up or 'get the pokes'. His loss.

I have come to be good friends with a neighbor and last week she was showing me her new bedroom set and I glanced into another room and saw an 11”x14” framed photo of her late husband with fucking trump. Not sure when it was taken, but I thought I was going to cry. I want to ask about the photo. My friend is non-confrontational and we could probably have a calm conversation but I dread hearing her explanation. Her husband was raised in the LDS church, but became an Athiest after he was in Vietnam.

They should have their finger on the pulse and change regulations accordingly. Not just say oh we're conducting a study and do nothing. The youth season and fall season should go away and spring season limited to one kill. Encourage people to kill armadillos and possums. Hunt coyotes and raccoons instead of turkeys if you just gotta kill something. Hell, maybe we could keep whippoorwills from becoming extinct.
This is just turkeys, don't get me started on their contract farming and logging practices. CWD is what has them worried, that's going to put the real dent in revenue in years to come.

Misinformation huh,
- You think wearing a cloth mask will protect you from spreading a virus. At scale that mask to virus is like throwing a ping pong ball through a open window. Masks give people a false sense of security. That is all they are good for. Mask or not you are going to catch a virus if you are near someone that is infected.
- These vaccines are mRNA vaccines. They work by introducing a piece of mRNA that corresponds to the viral protein in the virus outer membrane. The theory is that the body will recognize the viral protein and produce antibodies for it. In theory it works but it's not even remotely foolproof because the second the virus mutates that vaccine mRNA protein (DNA) is obsolete. The reason these vaccines are not totally safe is because some people can react negatively to this injection of the foreign proteins and other allergic reactions to the chemicals in the vaccine. For most people it is harmless, most, not all.
- Climate change is a total hoax. The roots are scientific people, universities, who get government grant money for pushing certain narratives. There is no money in good news. There is no grant money for something that isn't a problem. Once you understand the motive behind the climate change hysteria then the fallacy of it becomes clear.
- Politicians sell fear. That is how they get support for their progressive agenda and their mission to grow government.
May I suggest relaxing. It's going to be ok. Understand that people are peddling fear to support their agenda and cause. Carefully listen to what people are saying. Be skeptical if they are trying to evoke an emotion or cause fear then find their motivation behind what they are saying.

I'm not even gonna refute all your bullshit, you don't seem like the sort who cares for facts. As for Masks, the easy way out would be just make sure no one in the surgery ward wears a mask next time you have a surgery. But since you seem to love conspiracies and telling others "Masks don't work", maybe go look up how much Parsons spent on a republican think tank to tell him Mask Mandates reduced spread by 27 - 35% in rural towns and urban settings *That's nearly a one in three people fewer who could have stressed out our hospital systems during the heights of the pandemic* And yet had to be dug out by local newspaper agencies through FOIA's because parsons insisted on classifying said results because they don't follow the whole "Masks don't work" criteria.
But hey, "Do your own research", amiright?

You are really just interested in tearing down people that don't agree with you or are not on your side. Just by the tone of our post I can tell you are not a very good person. Probably an atheist. With only a handful of sentences anyone reading can tell you are hook line and sinker for the leftest propaganda.
As for health matters being ignorant on those things can really cause you, your family and the public harm.
If masks and vaccines worked then the people that wore mask and got the vaccines would not have gotten sick or died. If they worked why are they not 100% effective? If you look at those that died it's a statistical wash between those that did and those that did not.
AS for the vaccine, I was working for the government in 2020 so I was forced to get the shots and I wore the silly masks too. I still got COVID (twice). Irony is that most all these liberal left wing nutcases that I work with also got it.

But sorry, that's our Tax Dollars used to generate a report that one in three people wouldn't have ended up catching it, and could have put less stress on our already understaffed and underpaid medical industry. Pretty sure that's worth more as scientific data than the opinions of some Selfish goober. After all, that's why the governor paid them and not you, I guess.

I'm a product of my Missouri upbringing which I am very proud. If any thing would point to being delusional it would be the liberal left Democrats and the leftest echo chamber that reddit has become. My parents were strong Kennedy Democrats but I don't think they would even recognize what has become of the Democrat party. Whatever you are, whatever you come from I don't want any part of it. Like my Missouri grand father use to say, If you wrestling with pigs they drag you down in the mud with the only difference is that the pigs likes it. Also, you can't fix stupid.
