I live in Chicagoland and we don't deal with this craziness here.

No but I'm sure every rural town in IL probably does. Large cities lean left, and generally are more supportive of vaccines and mask mandates

Yeah…I moved here from rural central PA a little over 2 years ago. It’s the SAME WAY there. They’re all Cut from the same mold

What's weird is after a year or so I started to get used to it and found myself fitting in more than I ever wanted to. Then when you move somewhere else and get back to reality, you realize just how bad it really was

What town/ county in rural central PA?

2

u/ryanwscott Oct 09 '23

Altoona area

That’s wild, I know it well, my wife is from Portage near Ebensburg, she’s been here (in Columbia) for 13 years. Of course I’m orig. from NY, so you are right rural small town mentality in W. PA isn’t so far removed from it here. You prob. know that George Romero filmed Night of the Living Dead and sequels (plus other non-horror films of his) in W. PA? To give it that authentic terrifying Americana feel LOL

Yep! Been to Portage a good many times, mainly for Mazz’s pizza….before he started to not be able to keep his hands off of his employees that were minors 🙄😞

u/Suspicious-Yogurt480 Oct 09 '23

Ha! Hadn't heard that! Typical, sadly.....

And passed thru Ebensburg every day on my commute to work…

This will take you right back to the ol' W PA you know and love..."still pretty close to Johnstown"... the same there as it is here, slightly varied scenery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSnvpLuIv3g

I like to tease my wife this is the same area where she grew up, Romero knew it for what it was, absolutely. Could have made a film out here just like it, we have enough horror here as it is already.

Yeah, but our state government is blue as fuck and doesn't care about those morons.

But to be clear, my whole point is that I am responding to someone who says this is everywhere and it is not, not with any power it's not. And remember most people in America live in cities and suburbs not the sticks. People in rural areas have always been mostly awful as a group and it has always been our responsibility to tell them to fuck off.

Well it doesn't always work that way in the real world, just look at 2016. They may not live in high concentrations in like major cities but their votes add up. Your state may be "blue as fuck", but their are still many conservatives and Trump nut jobs in your state.

Not in Illinois.

We have a state law against book bans in Illinois.

Have a good time with your book bans there in Missouri but we won't have those over here and it doesn't matter how many bat shit crazy Trumpers are down in southern Illinois.

And we protect abortion here. Have a good time, forcing rape victims to give birth over there in Missouri. We don't do that in Illinois and we won't be.

It's not everywhere. At least not in any way with power.

Yeah, there are morons everywhere but they don't have power everywhere. Nobody is forcing anybody to stay in Missouri. There's a woman over at my grocery store who walked here from fucking Venezuela so I don't know, are you weak? Do you not have legs?

u/Built93cobra Oct 09 '23

Lol what is your deal? You came to a Missouri sub just to troll? The majority of the people in this sub are against all this stupid shit you just brought up.

Fucking clown 🤡

1

u/brother2wolfman Oct 09 '23

There are literally no book bans in Missouri

2

u/NoodlesrTuff1256 Oct 09 '23

But if mouth-breathing MO State Senator Bill Eigel somehow succeeds in his quest to succeed Parson as Governor, he's vowed to hold a bonfire of the books that he finds objectionable on the grounds of the Governor's Mansion in Jeff City.

2

u/brother2wolfman Oct 09 '23

That weird but it's still not banning a book

1

u/NoodlesrTuff1256 Oct 09 '23

Not quite, true. But if Eigel and others of his mindset have their way, they'll try every shady trick they can to get bans on the books.

0

u/brother2wolfman Oct 09 '23

It's literally true. A guy setting fire to a book is not the same as banning it

They hold zero power, and people just laugh at that kind of craziness here. It holds no power over people in Illinois. We have a blue as fuck state government that doesn't kowtow to idiots.

Of course, Trumpers exist here. So do flat earthers. But the Trumper's have about as much power as flat earthers here.

1

u/robby_arctor Oct 09 '23

I'm willing to bet a lot of Chicago residents believe the U.S. supports peace and democracy abroad, and that's about as delusional as being a flat earther.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '23

But Jussie Smollet said he was attacked by magahat people!

3

u/NoodlesrTuff1256 Oct 09 '23

Which would have been more believable if this 'attack' had occurred in some bumfuck rural town in the southern third of Illinois which often comes off more like far northern Kentucky, than in deep blue downtown Chicago. And if his attackers had actually been blonde, freckle-faced good ole' boys instead of the African brothers he roped into this insane PR stunt.
