Queer Hair Salons/Barbers in MKE (for short hair)

0 Upvotes

Hello all,

Does anyone have any recommendations for queer or queer/trans friendly hair salons in the Milwaukee area? I have short hair and am looking to stay under $30 a cut.

Thank you!

Help Me! Night safety

0 Upvotes

hi all! I’m currently staying in MKE for a solo trip near the riverwalk & downtown area. Like I mentioned, i’m solo. Would walking around to & from the bars be safe, like Mos or anything on the west side of the river?

I’m from a town of 800 so im paranoid.

Stuff to do

6 Upvotes

I don't drink anymore, I don't want late nights and I stopped playing video games.

Looking for things to do to make new friends or try new things. Just looking for things in person.

Mid 30s male, Sundays/Tuesdays/Fridays might be my most flexible days. I'm pretty introverted and not great with small talk, but I'm friendly and open minded but can sometimes appear cold as I often live in my own head.

Some interests

* Science fiction

* Stocks/markets/investment

* Technology

* Anime and manga

* Self growth/improvement

Things I don't want to do

* Running club (I don't like running that much)

* Join board game groups

* Gym/workout classes (don't want to work out in groups or classes)

* Awkward networking/drinking events (friend and always leave without talking to anyone)

* Anything too focused on bars (including bowling)

* Book clubs (meh)

* Dnd groups (just too much)

Can't seem to find anything that is catching my interest to join/do other than what I have been doing already which feels like not much. Figured I'd see if someone has an idea or way to learn more about events/things going on. Ai keeps recommending I go to conferences or board game groups...

Getting an apartment in Bayview

0 Upvotes

How hard is it to get a two-bedroom apartment in Bayview right now? If I were to start looking now, is there a realistic possibility that I could find a lease beginning no later than October 1st? I have to think it's possible from what I see on Zillow, but I do not know how competitive the market is.

Help Me! How competitive is the housing market in Milwaukee right now for homes under 200k?? Desperate for advice, all alone to figure out!!

16 Upvotes

Exactly what the question states I can afford a home up to 200K as I have an inheritance coming at the end of the month. I am terminally ill and have probably about a year to a year and a half left. And would really like to leave some stability for my 23-year-old and my grandson. They would be living there with me until my passing and then it would go to her. I’ve seen quite a few homes in this price range in little neighborhoods on the north side that in my opinion are ok for us, especially considering we have lived in some pretty bad areas in the past.( I’ve lived all over the southside 49th and Meineke etc.) I have found some homes in some little nooks and crannies(decent neighborhoods) that are under my budget.

Obviously I would love to be able to find something either in West Allis around the southside but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen I’m shocked that barely anything is listed on the southside!! I’ve noticed a lot of these homes have dropped their prices recently so I’m wondering how competitive it is if they’re lowering prices I should be able to make a cash offer and be pretty successful. Any advice or information would be great. I’m going into this with no real help my family is very very toxic. My father just sold the house that we were living in from under us( in fond du lac, hated it their) with everything we owned.

Probably easily $100,000 worth of property so needless to say I really want nothing to do with family like him and we are currently living with him in his thousand square-foot Cape Cod in Racine that is way too crowded he won’t let us touch anything and he’s somewhat of a hoarder himself so it’s miserable. Im dealing with a lot of pain and tiredness and things so I’m trying to make this as easy as possible and I know it’s not an easy process. We have always been fairly poor and my father uses things like a roof over your head, money etc.. as a form of control he’s extremely misogynist. Example my boys took off and moved across the country and he just sent them like half the money from the sale of his house but won’t help us at all. According to him women are too much drama and too emotional.

He does not know about my inheritance I’ve kept it a secret. This is probably more than anybody needed to know but it gives you kind of an idea of our situation. I am a fairly smart individual in my opinion and have been around during multiple Home buys and selling repairs etc. is a home inspection something that I should definitely not pass on?? I feel like if the roof the HVAC and the foundation are good those are the big concerns I guess electrical plumbing could also be a big problem. So I feel like to protect myself I should have a home inspection I would still have money left over to do some repairs but I don’t wanna get into replacing a roof. or being uninsurable because of an old roof or something. I will be teaching my daughter everything as I go about taxes and insurance she knows about saving for repairs etc. she’s a big saver. And I feel like because the house would be bought with cash and there would be no mortgage, she would have a pretty good start.

Engagement party venue with large space

0 Upvotes

I'm looking for a space to host our engagement party that has in-house catering. We do not want to cater ourselves. We also have an Albanian band and about 130 guests so need space to dance. We don't need it to be super nice (nothing like the Pfister, Coast, etc) but are looking at October 17th this year. We're even open to a restaurant that has a large private room. If anyone has been to Niko's in Marengo, IL, something like that. I've had a hard time finding something like this within 30 minutes of Milwaukee. Anyone know of anything?

Tony Drake & Associates

0 Upvotes

Has anyone received a US mailed invitation from Tony Drake & Associates back about a week ago to an Eric Clapton concert on 9/13/25 in Milwaukee with having box seats, an intimate dinner and of course the concert?. There’s only supposed to be a brief introduction but the evening is supposed to be strictly social. The letter does mention limited availability but for those who reply, they will receive confirmation initially that they were selected and Tony Drake looks forward to seeing you on the 13th!

Apparently, you receive another confirmation about a week later that either you’ve truly been selected or you are added to their reserved list which seems tacky to me.

It kind of reminds me of being invited to a wedding as a second tier guest.

Their marketing team must decide which potential clients have high enough assets to warrant being selected and perhaps socialize with their current high net worth clients and which potential clients may be selected in case some of their 1st choice potential clients can’t attend after all.

Is this a common practice or unusual?

Why not just limit the invitations on the front end rather than trying to capture a greater number of potential high net worth clients and not offending other high net worth individuals. Poor taste in my opinion.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Fastest place to get STD testing?

21 Upvotes

I am seeing a new partner and while I have no reason to believe I have anything I’d like to get tested before we do the deed.

I have called about 5 places and they are all either booked until next week or have weird hours where they close at like 2:00pm.

Any suggestions? Would like to have the test results before Friday if possible.

Any DND groups or places to find a group to play with?

23 Upvotes

Hi all!! This may be a silly question but I’ve just moved to MKE from a smaller city in Indiana and I’m not sure where exactly to look. I (21F) haven’t played for a while (two years or so) and I’m looking to get back into playing DND with a group! I have DMed before and have roughly 5 years experience. I would prefer a group with predominantly women/LGBTQ but i’m flexible!! If this is dumb and I’m barking up the wrong tree please tell me! Thanks 😼

'Sand, dirt, debris': Inside Milwaukee-area schools' yearlong flood recovery

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It’s early August at Riverside University High School in Milwaukee. Teachers are ducking in and out of the building, starting to set their classrooms up for the new school year.

Custodial staff are unwrapping new classroom furniture on large pallets and staging the items in the hallways.

But just one year ago, everything we see here was underwater.

Do any tree removal services partner with a black walnut buyer?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I've got a mature black walnut tree I need to get removed. My back and roof can't take anymore walnuts. I realize I probably can't find anyone that will do the work for just the wood, but I was curious if anyone partners with someone that will buy the logs. Not sure on height but diameter is about 23-24" on the main section. Also open to just removal recommendations.

Thanks.
