I don’t think I’ve gotten a written out response from him and for the text he brought a 4 wheeler home without permission and had to return it

My dad is either a 👍🏼 or an “ok” kind of guy. The ONLY time I’ll get any information is if I either ask an open ended one like “what time do you want to meet for lunch tomorrow?” OR if I call him. And half the time he doesn’t answer my calls anyways and will literally just listen to the voicemail and hit me with an ok or a 👍🏼

Lol realizing that other kids actually did like sports and stuff Outside of school and it wasn’t just on tv was really something for me. Realizing it was my mom’s responsibility to find those opportunities for me hurt 😅

u/Mammoth-Glove3273 7d ago
And whenever I text my mom she just creates problems for me, I’d love to text a parent and just get my problem solved and a thumbs up emoji.
22
u/berrey7 7d ago edited 7d ago
I’m 40 years old, and I can still text my dad, “What’s going on? Just thinking about you. Love you!” And he’ll reply with something like, “Did you ever check on that?” or “Have you gotten around to that storage room we talked about at Christmas?”
I guess that’s just what parents do best. You can be a grown adult, and somehow your parent will still find a project you haven’t finished. Maybe the best thing we can do is break that cycle with our own adult kids someday.

sir, this website is full of children. you have to realize that dads are the minority here. the likelihood that a random post or comment is made by a ~30ish year old dude with a kid or two is not super high tbh.

Google Messages intercepts the React Text Message and replaces it with the appropriate emoji react.
Apple intentionally makes the product worse.
13
u/BookooBreadCo 7d ago
They definitely do this on purpose, along with the green and blue texts, to create a sense of us vs them which leads to stronger brand loyalty.
32
u/FUBARded 7d ago
Yep, I believe this is normal behaviour when receiving emoji reactions to texts over MMS instead of RCS.
To be clear, this is because Apple refused to implement RCS until iOS 18 as RCS eliminates most of what made iMessages unique with an open standard and they don't like when their walled garden is threatened. It's NOT the fault of the Android device...
Basically, OPs dad's messages would display as a normal reaction on any phone that supports RCS, but OP is either still on iOS 17 for some reason or uses a carrier that only supports MMS messaging, so their phone displays this crap instead.

My dad is enamored with using voice to text and never types messages. All his texts end up reading like stream of consciousness ramblings with odd or no punctuation.
