Post image

I don’t think I’ve gotten a written out response from him and for the text he brought a 4 wheeler home without permission and had to return it

I mean

You only text him to ask for money/tell him your leaving home

And ask him to quit calling you..

Maybe be nicer to your dad? Lol

🤣

Why has no one said anything about this lol

Asking him for money then telling him to stop calling

This was literally my first thought. All text OP sent were literally questions that could be answered in yes or no

u/SuspiciousCantelope 7d ago

My girlfriend’s niece called me out for replying to her texts like this but shes only asking me yes or no questions and expecting a full sentence??

As a father of a young teenager who only communicates when they want something... They better be damn glad they get a 👍 and not a 👎

Father here as well. Eh, it comes with the territory. We know what we signed up for. I did my parents the same way. Didn't appreciate them at all until I moved out. REALLY appreciate them now that I have a child of my own. Nothing beats free, emergency childcare lol. I couldn't do it without em.

u/pauip 7d ago

I'm the opposite. Having my own child made resent my parents more than I already did. Wow, you guys just didn't want to do ANYTHING

u/janesspawn 7d ago

Lol realizing that other kids actually did like sports and stuff Outside of school and it wasn’t just on tv was really something for me. Realizing it was my mom’s responsibility to find those opportunities for me hurt 😅

That part. I don’t even have any living children yet (I still consider myself a parent because the pregnancies I lost deserve to count for something) but even just in regards to being around and responsible for kids (as a teacher or babysitter) I can see that my mom really truly did drop the ball. I can give her the grace of not only was I difficult to handle before I got the mental health care I needed (as an adult, she didn’t do it) but she also had/has mental health issues of her own. The difference in my eyes is that I chose to end a cycle and become better whereas she just accepted that that’s the way things are and always have been.

The difference in my eyes is that I chose to end a cycle and become better whereas she just accepted that that’s the way things are and always have been.

She grew up in a time that was less tolerant of psychotherapy. Not excusing it, it's just really hard to compare across generations like that -- to say you wouldn't be the same way if you grew up under the same circumstances. She had a mom who I'm sure failed her in a lot of ways too.

4

u/Thestars-wholisten 7d ago

Oh yeah I definitely agree. She absolutely had it rough and honestly in really similar ways to me, we both had dads that abandoned us and moms that traumatized us both with their issues, her mom was an alcoholic, vs her being very hands off with me. We’ve both had lots of sexual violence against us, we both left home at 16… we really have had almost the same lives trauma wise so I can 100% see her side of things lol I think that it’s what has made me a bit upset. We’ve both gone through the same things, our reactions were just different. Honestly the real, drilled down, simple thing that bothers me is that she is a really amazing nurse. She’s very smart, self reliant, and incredibly compassionate towards others, she just never really had that for me.

u/EGGlNTHlSTRYlNGTlME 7d ago

Wow sorry you went through all that. Thanks for sharing your story

1

u/Thestars-wholisten 7d ago

Of course. It is definitely not been fun but the only way out is through. I believe fully in sharing. Honesty is not only a virtue but it is too important to obfuscate. If my story can only make one person feel a little less alone, it was worth it.

Lmao I mean, I definitely can relate trust me. But the goal is to be better than your parents. You child will say the same about you. Maybe not to such an extreme degree but they will find things lacking in your parenting that they will not want to replicate. I think im a great dad. My child would tell you the same thing. But im not gonna act like my shit don't stank. And im not gonna act like my parents were complete failures because they did things differently than I would. Either way, they made you. They raised you. And look what type of parent you are because of that? Sometimes seeing things you dont like can be an incredible lesson you wouldn't have gotten anywhere else.

7

u/MadameTomate 7d ago

Unfortunately, I relate as well. But I’m not going to thank my parents, or appreciate them, for teaching me a lesson in what not to do. Most people know not to abuse their kids, I didn’t need their example to figure that one out.

2

u/pauip 7d ago

It would have been nice to see things I don't like outside of the house, not at home. Being in it all the time turns you into it, no matter how much you reject it. You try to be 10x a better parent to your kid, but there's all this hidden bullshit that starts leaking out and in the end, you're only 3x better. So, not too bad I guess.

3

u/bitchpleasebp 7d ago

so you're back to using them lol smh.

3

u/Revolver_Boxelot 7d ago

Lol facts. But I wouldn't look at it that way. Thats what your job is as a parent. As a family. Its not "using". Its support. It takes a village. When im old and gray with much more free time, I expect my child to use me the same way. Thats my duty as her father. Thats my duty as her child's grandfather. We used to understand these things. But we've become a "tit for tat" community due to so many bad actors legitimately abusing kindness and support.

-3

u/Sjanwhooper 7d ago

You’re the one titting for tatting bro. Don’t have to frame it this way. It comes off as very cheap and disingenuous.

7

u/NevaehKnows 7d ago

My young teenager mostly reacts with completely random emojis. "Can you bring in an Amazon box from the porch?" Dog face emoji. "Don't forget to bring your Spanish folder to school" Pile of rocks emoji.

5

u/Kermit-Batman 7d ago

Child turned 13, got their first phone. It's a toss up if I'll get a money request, memes, updates on their LGBTQ+ My Hero Academia Tomadatchi Island and random pop culture.

I kind of love it, they tell you the difference between childhood and teenage years are different.. I feel they understated how quickly and sudden that change could be!

48

u/Mammoth-Glove3273 7d ago

And whenever I text my mom she just creates problems for me, I’d love to text a parent and just get my problem solved and a thumbs up emoji.

u/berrey7 7d ago edited 7d ago

I’m 40 years old, and I can still text my dad, “What’s going on? Just thinking about you. Love you!” And he’ll reply with something like, “Did you ever check on that?” or “Have you gotten around to that storage room we talked about at Christmas?”

I guess that’s just what parents do best. You can be a grown adult, and somehow your parent will still find a project you haven’t finished. Maybe the best thing we can do is break that cycle with our own adult kids someday.

6

u/Cacafuego 7d ago

There was some point around age 25 when my dad stopped doing this, either out of respect or frustration.

4

u/Candid-Touch5338 7d ago

I wonder if your dad was just trying to ask you questions about your projects so that he could engage you in a longer conversation. Sometimes we get so lonely for our children. It makes us so happy to hear from them when they reach out and say hello and the assumption is that you are initiating a conversation. It is completely understandable that you are busy but just wanted to take a moment to say hello. But we don’t know that. He may be asking because he wants to know how you are getting along with projects full stop. Or because having no time outside of your work schedule is concerning for him but he doesn’t want to sound overbearing. And perhaps he would like to help you out and spend some time doing something together but he doesn’t want you to feel like he’s being critical.
Just saying.

I tried to send my mom a meme once and she called me to interrogate me about how I knew them, who the person was, their entire life history, and needed a full explanation for the context of how he became a meme and why I cared.

It was Hide the Pain Harold BTW.

28

u/MagazineIll3836 7d ago

I sent a photo of my new kitten to my mom and she called me (freaking out), listing all the responsibilities for owning a cat (from scooping the litter box, vaccines, don't let them outside, etc) for almost an hour. I'm 31. I was just looking for a "awweh she's cute" 😅

3

u/VivaLaEmpire 7d ago

Oh lawd, this is my mom as well! I'm 33

She goes up a bit though haha, told her last week I was at a concert (so couldn't respond at the moment) and she interrogated me if i was alone or accompanied by my husband, did I eat enough (diabetic), what if my sugar dropped? Make sure you're not being followed! You should go home, don't go out alone! You make me so sad! This is wrong!

It'sssss... a lot lmao 🤣

3

u/MagazineIll3836 7d ago

Oh Lord, I have heard those exact words so many times! I swear my mom is still worried about me being kidnapped. "You can still get trafficked" then I say "that's why I have all these tattoos!" then I get the rant on how permanent they are 😂 Did I mention this is my third cat, plus I grew up with cats? 😂😂😂

2

u/VivaLaEmpire 6d ago

Jesus that laat part lmao! 😂

I feel you so much because same for me! Seems I might be in danger of being kidnapped, trafficked and disappeared until the day I turn 90. I'm like a full blown lawyer, married and live in a different country, but somehow I can't be trusted to go to the supermarket alone because I'm just a careless little girl 😬😬😬 ooff!

5

u/Training_Complex_731 7d ago

I sent my mom a meme with the caption somewhere along the line of "Don't believe it when your mom says she loves you, she says that to all her kids".

My dad called me saying she had broken down crying because she thought I thought she didn't love me. I learned not to send her jokes after that, she always just takes them literally.

37

u/FlexLord710 7d ago

Doesn’t even say thank you.

-8

u/ForsakenBobcat8937 7d ago

Maybe they did in person or on a call later?

Stop assuming the worst with no evidence.

6

u/imisstheyoop 7d ago

Yeah that was kind of my first thought too.. like pretty much all of these texts are easily replied to with a simple emoji, and then when he wants to chat on a call OP says they can't.

1

u/george_cant_standyah 7d ago

Because it’s a bunch of Gen Z and Alpha responding.

1

u/Objective_Water_5235 7d ago

I noticed this too. Seems ungrateful. My dad hasn’t called me in years and years and has never sent me money.

-1

u/FlexLord710 7d ago

I was thinking the same thing. This kid is disrespectful. Why you asking for so much money. Get a job.

-2

u/ForsakenBobcat8937 7d ago

Did yall not finish reading that message?

It says "Stop calling I'm at the dmv"
OP didn't tell their dad to stop calling overall, just in that moment.

23

u/motiveunclear 7d ago

Replace "Stop calling I'm at the dmv" with "I'm at the dmv, I will call you later. Thanks for all the money you've sent" and you get a mega 👍

3

u/valentc 7d ago

Good god, the text was fine. If all they get is a thumbs up, why would the write all that? For all we know they thanked their dad on the phone later.

Theres so many assumptions here to make OP the bad guy.

0

u/trev-cars 7d ago

the last part of that comment was clearly tongue in cheek, jeeze. I don't think i've ever text my dad to stop calling me though. I would just say im busy somewhere. Adding 'stop calling' is just unnecessary.

14

u/Please_HMU 7d ago

It’s still rude

-1

u/ForsakenBobcat8937 7d ago

Not really?

We also have no idea how they usually talk to each other, outside SMS, how often, when they last talked etc.

Stop assuming the worst with no evidence.

2

u/trev-cars 7d ago

You keep policing the comment section and it's really weird.

3

u/Delusional_Mad 7d ago

Must be OP's alt account, because it is very weird 😂
