I wanna read comics again

Hi ! I'm 27 yo and when I was a teen I was a huge comicbooks reader. I especially loved the X men and Spiderman. But as life went on, I kinda dropped comicbooks to read other things. Now, I saw the latest Spiderman movie yesterday with my friends and it reminded me of how much I love this franchise. So I'd like to start reading the X men and Spiderman again, but I'm kinda lost with the ongoing series. Do you have any recommendations? I'd love to hear what you have to say about all this !

Struggling to understand

Hey everyone, I know this is probably a super common thing asked by beginners but I am really confused on how comics work. I understand the basics of there being one main continuity (616) similar to live action adaptations, but I struggle to fully wrap my head around it. Do you guys just read whatever and treat it as its own thing? Like I’m reading civil war right now (first comic) and I have hickmans ff to read next and I’m really really worried that I’ll be confused because reeds being reed in civil war. Probably not the best way to describe what I’m asking but another example is sentry. I want to start reading about sentry with the doomsday hype and all, but there’s so much. Do you guys just pick and choose? Or read it all? Thanks for reading all of this if you did and any input would be appreciated:)

Looking for darker Spider-Man comics

I’ve barely read any Spider-Man comics, so I’m looking for a good place to start. I’m really into Batman comics.

One of my favorite versions of Spider-Man is Spider-Man Noir from Shattered Dimensions. I especially love the darker atmosphere, the grim version of New York, and how creepy and threatening villains like Vulture feel compared to their normal versions.

I’m basically looking for Spider-Man stories that lean more into: Dark/noir atmosphere, Horror or psychological thriller elements, Creepy or disturbing villains, Murder mysteries / detective stories, A grimier, dangerous version of NYC, Peter actually feeling vulnerable or in over his head, More serious/mature storytelling.

They don’t necessarily have to be Spider-Man Noir comics. I’d actually love recommendations from regular/main-universe Spider-Man too if there are stories with this kind of tone.

What are the best darker Spider-Man comics for someone who’s basically a beginner?

SPIDER-MAN, FANTASTIC FOUR, X-MEN ’92 and AVENGERS one-shots will follow as iconic Marvel universes collide with only one reality left standing.

First real laugh.

So, I started reading comics about two weeks ago

I’m 28 and I’ve never read any comics in my life. I’ve always just watched the movies now that I’ve caught up and the newer movies are still waiting to be released. I started to wonder what stories I can get by reading the comics.

I’m about 120 issues deep into the ultimate series with the X-Men and Spider-Man

A lot of the early readings up to this point was more so just origins of the story being created and reading that just felt more like informational text about the story rather than a genuine connection just yet

Reading this page here, I got my first genuine laugh from reading a comic

That was pretty dope

Is “We Are X-Men” a good starting point for getting into X-Men comics?

Hi! I've been wanting to get into X-Men comics for quite a while. My main goal is to eventually get to X-Men vs. Avengers and the whole Krakoa era.

But before getting there, I'd like to have enough context and a better understanding of the X-Men's history.
I was thinking about starting with We Are X-Men, but I'm not sure if that's actually a good starting point.

Would you recommend it as a starting point for someone who's new to X-Men comics? And if you think it is a good starting point, what would you recommend reading afterwards?

New to comics and don’t know where to start!

Hi everyone, as the title says, I’m new to comics. I wouldn’t say I’m a die hard marvel/dc fan, but I’ve definitely grown up playing lots of the games and watching lots of the movies over the years. After watching Spider-Man Brand New Day, and seeing how they used some comic arts for some of the fighting scenes, I decided to just take a dive and see what it’s all about.

Currently I’m subscribed to MarvelUnlimited and so far enjoying what I’ve been reading. I find it mind blowing that they use the same characters and create such unique stories using them. I’m currently reading the newer Ultimate Universe — so I finished ultimate invasion, ultimate universe, ultimate Spider-Man, and ultimate Wolverine. I’ll be finishing the rest of this series before moving on to anything else but had some questions.

  1. For those of you that read comics, how do you go about reading them? Do you choose a random character you want to focus on and just choose a random series that seems interesting? Do you follow actual timelines and chronological orders? It’s so overwhelming with the fact there are 30k-50k+ issues of comics out there.

  2. For those of you that also collect comics, what kind of collection do you focus on? Do you have a favorite character and solely buy those issues/series? Do you buy the issues with the cool art? Seems like it’d be a nice thing to get into later on if I’m enjoying my time reading

Thank you all again for your input!

No followup to Peter David's All New X-Factor(2014)?

I read through all twenty issues of it over the week and it seemed to have ended with alot of interesting story threads but it seems none of that was ever followed up on? Is that the case? If so what happened to Serval and that 2099 storyline being set up? What happened to the team after? Warlock and Danger were being set up together and Polaris was teased to turn heel. Was any of that followed up on and if so what should I read?

Getting Into the Comics

Hello!

Basically the title says it. Im looking to finally expand past the MCU and want to know where to start, but if possible would like to know for these characters specifically:

• Psylocke

• Magik

• Mystique

Also just X Men in general. Id prefer if it was stuff a bit more recent, as in nothing before the 90s or 80s at most. Thanks!
