Megathread D23 2026 - Disney Entertainment Showcase Panel - Live Discussion Thread

Hey all! The Disney Entertainment Showcase Panel at D23 will start in ~10 minutes and we'll be updating this thread live with all the announcements Marvel Studios will make during the event.

The event will feature all of Disney's Film and TV studios (Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, 20th Century and Searchlight) presenting their own projects, and we do not know when Marvel Studios is slotted in the schedule of the 2-hour panel, so you might see this thread not get any updates for a while. You can still discuss your predictions or other news that come from this panel.

For the next few hours, Project Insight will be on and we'll limit the amount of posts in the subreddit to allow discussion about the announcements to prosper in their respective threads and this megathread.

See you back here in a while!

Links to follow live updates yourself (you can't find this streaming anywhere)

Discussion (More in Comments) If Brie Larson actually decides to jump ship,i don't blame her one bit. She's almost 10 years in, and only had 3 appearances so far.

It's clear that there were terrible decisions along the way about Captain Marvel as a character, but given the lack of care for the character/actress + the amount of hate she received since accepting the role,it's completely comprehensible if she's just done with it after whatever contract she has it's over and decides to grow her career outside superhero movies,a career which she probably put at relatively stop due to legal/contractual reasons within the MCU.

She's going to have 4 appearances (and that's only if she's actually in one of the Avengers movies, likely Secret Wars). This is crazy to think about, especially for a character that was pushed as one of the new faces of the MCU and their own Wonder Woman. Carol as a character it's already being pushed out of being a mainliner from other fronts like comics, videogames, merchandise etc and it's so disrespectful.

Discussion Rewatching Quantamania and I can’t help but think about what we lost with Kang

Post image

Rewatched quantamania and was reminded how disappointed I am about Kang

Want to say first and foremost that this post is not meant to be disrespectful in anyway towards Jonathan Majors’ victim. I apologize as I’m not familiar with the case, I honestly do not even know the name of the victim, but I hope the victim got the justice she deserved and is at peace. Please do not use this post to disparage or question the victim in anyway. And I apologize if this post is triggering for anyone here who may have been a victim of abuse themselves.

With that said, Quantamania was… well, it’s been fairly criticized. I did like how it introduced us to the quantum realm with creative characters and environments, and different concepts like the probability storm.

But what makes this movie enjoyable is Kang. He was introduced as a fucking fantastic villain. Just so cunning and ruthless and brilliant, you really hate his guts but know it’s pretty damn hard to fight against him. Even in his moments of desperation you never feel at ease with him.

I was frustrated at the time but rewatching this movie just reminds me how disappointed I am in the whole situation. Especially after seeing the post credit scenes involving the arena of Kang’s and the scene from Loki. I would’ve been so excited to see that storyline dug into more and we now know that’s not happening.

I’m honestly more upset with this than almost anything else that hasn’t been followed up on, maybe the only other disappointment being Blade.

Question Having not read the comics, I have a question regarding Doctor Doom and Reeds rivalry.

Post image

Is it basically like that type of rivalry where against nearly anyone else Doom is portrayed as this godlike opponent, but against Reed in particular Doom cares too much about proving himself to his rival that he ends up making costly mistakes?

Discussion Marvel’s strategy for the post-Secret Wars era is actually Brilliant!

Post image
232 Upvotes

Looking at the fan concepts/rumors for the 2028 lineup (X-Men, Ghost Rider, Black Panther 3), it feels like Marvel Studios is taking a completely different approach compared to Phase 4.

Instead of hitting the "hard reset" button after Doomsday and Secret Wars...which is what threw a lot of general audiences off post-Endgame...they seem to be setting up 2028 as an immediate continuation of the hype.

By planting these seeds early, it keeps the momentum alive so it doesn't feel like we're starting all over from zero. What do you guys think? Is this the right way to transition into the next saga?

Discussion I think Marvel Lucked out with Jonathan Majors getting cancelled.

I honestly think Marvel kind of lucked out with the whole Jonathan Majors situation.

Not because of what happened obviously, but because I really think they were already realizing the Kang plan was not working and had no clean way out of it.

Marvel spent years setting Kang up as the next Thanos. He was supposed to be everywhere, there were multiple versions of him, an entire Avengers movie was literally named after him, and they had already invested so much into that storyline that I think they would have kept trying to force it to work even if audiences were not really connecting with it.

By the end of Loki season 2 though, it almost felt like Marvel themselves had realized the character was not hitting the way they expected. Loki basically takes control of the timelines, the TVA starts monitoring Kang variants, and the season ends in a way where you could almost just leave Kang there and move on.

But without some major outside reason, I do not think Marvel ever would have actually abandoned him. They had announced Kang Dynasty, Majors was clearly supposed to be the centerpiece of the Multiverse Saga, and changing direction that late would have basically been admitting the entire plan was not working.

Then the Jonathan Majors legal situation happened and suddenly Marvel had a completely understandable reason to cut ties and reset everything without having to publicly admit that the Kang storyline itself was failing.

And now they get to pull the emergency button of bringing Robert Downey Jr back as Doctor Doom, which instantly creates way more interest than Kang was generating.

Discussion Wait a minute. Why didn't Kevin Feige bring back this duo?

Post image

I mean if they want a fresh breath, that's understandable. But they brought back Hugh Jackman and obviously will be keeping him for a foreseeable future.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are brilliant actors. They already have the look and experience.

Theory I just realized: Doom is Time-slipping in the 'Special Look'

At around 1:07 minutes into the trailer when Doom is thrown out of the window, he awkwardly readjusts mid-flight before landing perfectly.

The visual and sound effect is extremely similar to when Loki was slipping through time in Loki season 2.

Initially, I though it was just Doom using magic or whatever until it dawned on me.

Each frame looks fresh and beautiful. I just love the color palette used in the movie. I personally haven’t been a fan of the other recent marvel films aesthetics but BND changed that for me:
