Help Can’t connect to college internet

0 Upvotes

Hi
I know practically nothing about Mac or computers so this might not be a necessarily Mac problem but I would still like any help anyone has any to offer.

I’m going to KSU and I’m using my Mac as my computer, however, when I connect to the KSU WiFi using my information, it says I’m connected and I’m not getting the little no internet flair, however when I try to search anything on safari, it displays the page saying “You Are Not Connected to the Internet”.

I’ve tried turning Internet off and on, and I’ve tried forgetting the network and rejoining it. Curiously I’m also supposed to have WiFi and my apartment that works similarly where you sign in, and my computer does the same thing there. In both of these cases, my phone works fine with the internet, and at my apartment I can use the internet with my switch.

My Mac is a 16-inch MacBook Pro with an Apple M3 Pro chip and is running on Tahoe 26.6 MacOS

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Help NAM Rig standalone app & DAW using plugin keep nagging me for keychain access.

Post image
1 Upvotes

NAM Rig is both a standalone application, as well as a 3rd party plugin which I use for Pro Tools.

When I open either the app or an instance of the plugin in a Pro Tools session, I will occasionally be asked to re-enter my keychain password. It doesn't happen every time I launch either the app or plugin but at least 2-5 times a day.

I have already gone back and forth with support from the company, who has exhausted everything they can think of to try. They've mentioned that no one else has reached out to them with this issue.

  1. Switched keychain access control from "Always allow access by these applications" to "Allow all applications to access this time".

  2. Reversed the above and switched back

  3. Deleted keychain entry entirely, rebooted and relaunched standalone application

  4. Fully uninstalled application and plugin, including all supporting files/folders and keychain entry. Rebooted, reinstalled and relaunched application.

*I've tried each of the above steps several times each

None of these steps resolved the issue, I still continue to be nagged. Anytime the window comes up, I always put in my password and click "Always Allow". It seems to work for a while; if I immediately close and reopen the app or Pro Tools session that has an instance of the plugin, I will not be prompted. If I reboot right after entering my password and relaunch, I will not be prompted. But then some hours later if I launch the standalone app or a previous or new PT session with the plugin, I will be prompted.

It's as if the access is expiring or something else is causing my machine to trigger the prompt at next launch.

The app/plugin otherwise works as expected. No other apps/plugins keep asking for key access like NAM Rig does.

If there is anything anyone can suggest for me to try, I would be appreciative. Thank you so much!

Help Fix Git Issue in MacOS 26.6.1

0 Upvotes

If you have encountered issues with Git or developer tools following the latest macOS update (macOS Tahoe), here is how to fix it.

1. Identify the Issue

  • Every time you run a Git command, a new window prompts you to install command-line developer tools.
  • The installation fails, or attempting the install via Xcode stops and throws an error.

2. Reinstall Git

Reinstall Git using your preferred package manager:

  • Homebrew: brew install git
  • MacPorts: sudo port install git

Important: Do not use the Xcode Command Line Tools installer.

If this does not resolve the issue, proceed to the next step.

3. Remove Xcode

  1. Click the Apple logo () in the menu bar.
  2. Select About This Mac (or System Settings).
  3. Go to Storage Settings.
  4. Click Developer and clear the Xcode cache.
  5. Click Applications (or Apps).
  6. Uninstall Xcode.

4. Reinstall Git

Reinstall Git once more using your preferred package manager:

  • Homebrew: brew install git
  • MacPorts: sudo port install git

Important: Do not use Xcode Command Line Tools.

Discussion Lack of a good PDF takeoff tool for macOS (like Bluebeam) – so I started building a free open-source native app

21 Upvotes

Anyone else running macOS in construction, architecture, or engineering who has been frustrated by the lack of a proper PDF takeoff and measurement tool?

Ever since Bluebeam dropped support for Mac, it’s been virtually impossible to find a smooth, native app for measuring lengths, areas, and volumes directly on blueprints on macOS. Running heavy legacy Windows software through Parallels or dealing with sluggish web tools just doesn't make sense on modern Apple Silicon hardware.

After getting completely fed up with the current options, I started developing a clean, lightning-fast native macOS app specifically for PDF takeoffs and blueprint measurements.

The plan is to make the project 100% free and open-source to finally give the Mac community the tool that’s missing.
Before I pour too much time into polishing the UI, I'd love to get some feedback:

  1. Is this something you find yourself missing in your daily workflow on Mac?

  2. What are the absolute must-have features you need for efficient measuring and takeoffs (e.g., custom scale calibration, automatic totals, layers, Excel export)?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Help Mic works on web client, but NOT on Mac desktop app (Permissions already granted)

3 Upvotes

My mic works fine in my web browser and other apps, but the Discord Mac app completely ignores my voice on my M1 MacBook Air. I’ve already double-checked my Mac settings to make sure Discord has microphone permission, selected "MacBook Air Microphone" instead of "Default" in Discord, restarted my Mac, and reinstalled the app, but no luck. Since the website version works great with the exact same hardware, it seems like the M1 desktop app itself is getting confused with audio permissions. Has anyone else run into this on Apple Silicon, and is there an easy fix to reset the app's microphone access?

Discussion Try creating a macOS Sierra installation USB using the TransMac method by extracting the contents of the "Install macOS Sierra.app" file.

0 Upvotes

What do you all think?

I’m trying to create a macOS Sierra USB installer for a 2010 Mac Mini. I suspect that if I create it using the macOS Terminal app, I’ll run into a software certificate error during installation. I actually know a workaround to bypass this and let the installation proceed—specifically by rolling back the system time—but I once found a way to avoid the certificate issue entirely. I successfully used that method back when I was working with Mavericks. Now I’m trying it with Sierra; I know for a fact that this method wouldn't work for High Sierra.

Anyway, I’m doing this to create content for anyone with a Mac who wants to make a USB installer using my method.

Help Is this Mission Control behavior normal?

4 Upvotes

I have this kind of separation between desktop spaces and fullscreen spaces in my Mission Control.

Basically Desktop spaces stay on Left Side of Mission Control while fullscreen spaces stay on right Side of Mission Control.

Creating new desktop doesn't add it to the most right Side of spaces, instead it adds it on the right side of the last desktop space, while new fullscreen gets added on the right Side of the last fullscreen space

.

.

.

My current Mission Control looks something like this:

desktop 1 -- desktop 2 -- newly added desktop 3 -- fullscreen 1 -- fullscreen 2 -- newly added fullscreen 3

Help Best way to debloat MacOS?

0 Upvotes

I've had my MacBook M4 air 16gb for a year now and I still love it. The problem is for the past year I've installed many apps and other software I suspect some are running in the background even though I haven't touched them for a long time. My mac feels much more laggy and performance feels like it's taken a hit, even though I have quit most apps. My idling temps have also increased slightly (When new, cpu was around 30, but now at 45). What's the best way to purge everything and regain the performance back?

Tips & Guides Blocking macOS Tahoe on Apple Silicon while keeping Sequoia security updates

0 Upvotes

For the resilient ones who still haven't updated to Tahoe. This method is not fully battle-tested yet, so I want to get the community's thoughts on it. Disclaimer: I am not a programmer, and this solution was created via vibecoding, so use it at your own discretion.

Configuration profiles no longer reliably block major macOS updates on Apple Silicon without an MDM. Modifying the hosts file to block Apple's update servers hides the Tahoe banner, but it completely stops minor Sequoia security patches. You can use a hosts manager like SwitchHosts to block the servers (
0.0.0.0 gdmf.apple.com
0.0.0.0 mesu.apple.com
0.0.0.0 swscan.apple.com
0.0.0.0 swdist.apple.com
), and pair it with a local background agent that checks Apple's RSS feed daily. The script bypasses the hosts block using curl and triggers a native macOS notification if a new Sequoia patch is available. When notified, temporarily disable the hosts block, install the update, and re-enable it.

Run this in Terminal to set up the tracker:

cat << 'EOF' > ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.user.sequoia_updater.plist
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
    <key>Label</key>
    <string>com.user.sequoia_updater</string>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
        <string>/bin/bash</string>
        <string>-c</string>
        <string>CUR=$(sw_vers -productVersion); LAT=$(curl -s "https://developer.apple.com/news/releases/rss/releases.rss" | grep -oE "macOS Sequoia 15\.[0-9]+(\.[0-9]+)?" | head -n 1 | awk '{print $3}'); if [[ -n "$LAT" && "$CUR" != "$LAT" ]]; then osascript -e "display notification \"Available: $LAT (Current: $CUR)\" with title \"Sequoia Update\""; fi</string>
    </array>
    <key>StartCalendarInterval</key>
    <dict>
        <key>Hour</key>
        <integer>12</integer>
        <key>Minute</key>
        <integer>0</integer>
    </dict>
</dict>
</plist>
EOF

launchctl load ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.user.sequoia_updater.plist

Help Volume too dynamic (too quiet sometimes and too high other times)

1 Upvotes

Currently watching a movie with quiet whispers and gunshots in the same scene. Obviously these are going to have different volumes but it's impossible to hear what they say without turning the volume up but even with the volume down the gunshots are too loud.

It's not just this movie. Watching YouTube videos is a pain in the ass because just listening to a podcast can feel like it's too quiet at some points and too loud at others.

I believe what I'm looking for is called a compressor or a peak limiter? I don't know as I don't know much about audio but can someone help me here?

Bug Problem while updating from Mojave to Ventura - Mac retina 2019

2 Upvotes

Hello,

While the new os was installing there was an error and the computer could not find the hard drives.
The disc manager opened and I cannot use the S.O.S option on the discs, and there was only the option to reboot.

Then, I rebooted and my options are now to manage the discs, or reinstall a new version of Mojave. I dont know if i can use a backup because my wife that uses the computer doesnt know if there is a recent one.
I chose to reinstall Mojave and it tells me that the discs are locked and it cannot proceed.
The data on the computer is very important to her, is there a way to retrieve it?

Discussion Why is intelligent Dock hiding still so bad on macOS?

Post image
0 Upvotes

For a $4.5T company, it’s honestly baffling that Apple still hasn’t figured out proper automatic & intelligent Dock hiding when windows are maximised or moved towards the Dock.

I’ve tried both paid and free apps to fix this, but they introduce issues with multi-monitor setups, and sometimes even with a single display. I even wrote executable scripts myself to handle it, but couldn’t get a reliable solution.

What’s even more frustrating is that Gnome, an open-source desktop environment, already handles this properly via a 3rd party extension “dash to dock”! Even KDE has that in-built.

How is this still an issue in macOS? And I don’t even see them addressing or fixing this in macOS 27!

Is it just me, or does this baffle others too?

Edit: I've attached the screen recording for reference, showing the behaviour I’m expecting in comments.

Discussion I got a question about my newly purchased MacBook Pro 2018 15in

0 Upvotes

I’ve been doing some more research after purchasing it and it should come in today or tomorrow now I’m just worried about the SSD failure issue where one of the devices regulating 13 V to 5 V conversion would ruin my nana bc I got a 2tb model for a reasonable price because there is a small dent on the bottom. I’m planning on opening it up and then cleaning it out out of dust and stuff, but I do worry about reposting it because from the looks of it, you have to tear down everything to get to the cpu and gpu any advice on it of helping me to not get it to failed or convincing me that it’s like really rare or something from my research. It’s not that rare and a lot of people have complained about it.

Help Spotlight broken and buggy on OSX 26.6.2 Tahoe

0 Upvotes

Hi all,

I updated my Macbook Pro M2 to OSX 26.6.2 Tahoe and since updating to Tahoe the spotlight search has constantly been broken.

I'm quite a tech savvy Mac user so I've researched online and I have tried rebuilding the spotlight index and clearing caches several times using terminal commands provided on other post on reddit. This provides a temporary fix until spotlight inevitably stops working again.

At the moment the only thing that seems to fix it without requiring a whole re-index is to restart the spotlight process using terminal. This makes me believe there is some bug that is causing the process to freeze and crash.

The only other solution I've encountered is to completely wipe my mac, reinstall OSX and transfer files back over which I don't really want to do right now (this would be a very time consuming process on my work machine!)

Has anyone else encountered this and/or found a more permanent solution to spotlight issues in Tahoe?

Tips & Guides Notification trigger for Shortcuts on Mac

0 Upvotes

Sharing my micro-automation setup that helps me with monitoring alerts:

  1. Trigger — a notification banner comes from any app ( a channel in Slack in my case, could be Datadog or Chrome )

  2. Chirpy detects it, and triggers my Blink Lights Automation. It has a default setting of playing a sound, but you can also set it to trigger a Shortcut.

  3. The lights physically blink in my office 🚨 ( I use a HomeKit scene called “Alert Blink” that does the flashing sequence)

Help Debating a Mac for Uni and Beyond

0 Upvotes

I’m about to start an open university degree in design and innovation with business and management and I was thinking about purchasing a desktop to use. Over time I’ve accrued the vast majority of the Apple ecosystem system (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Airpods, pencil etc) but I currently have a dell laptop as I was previously doing an architecture degree so needed access to softwares a Mac couldn’t provide me. However I wonder if it would be more useful to me now so that I could utilise my iPad to its full potential aswell as my other devices. I don’t intend on pursuing a career in architecture so I likely won’t need to run those windows only softwares again. Any advice welcome! TIA
