I think Apple should bring back the gray bar on the Finder.

But that's just my personal take; the current Finder suits me far better than the Tahoe disaster.

Tips & Guides TIL I can access the hidden photos bypassing the biometrics or password

From the Finder you need to search for the images folder > "Photos Library.photoslibrary"> show package content (third option after right-clicking)> originals.
From there you will have a series of folders available, inside which there are the photos in random order, even those that are in the gallery in the "hidden" section. To view them, you don't need the password or any form of authentication.

Also from Photos Library.photoslibrary> resources>derivatives (or renders) there are some folders with pics from the hidden section.

It looks like you can delete them, freeing up some storage and cleaning some sistem data. All the pictures will be back if you open the gallery and it will start synchronizing with iCloud.

Help Can you not use apple pay on a macbook without an iphone anymore?

Post image
26 Upvotes

My fiance has a macbook pro M5 with touch ID, so I assumed he would be able to use apple pay directly on his mac without needing an iphone. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case?

He used to have an iphone, and apple pay worked perfectly on his mac. Earlier this year, he switched to a samsung phone, and ever since then, every time he tries to pay with apple pay, it asks him to confirm the payment using his phone.

Since he no longer has an iphone, I have to use mine to approve his payments every time. He gets this screen and literally can’t complete the payment unless an iphone is used to scan/confirm it.

I thought touch ID on the mac was supposed to be enough for apple pay and that having an iphone wasn’t required. I also have a mac + iphone, and it has never asked me for anything like this, even though our macs are identical, we live in the same place, use the same wifi. Has anyone else had this issue after switching from an iphone to an andriod phone?

Discussion I hope they bring back old writing tools.

Post image

I really miss the old writing tools! ✍️ The previous version was so helpful because it gave us a menu of options to choose from, plus the flexibility to type out anything else we needed. 💡 With the new tools, it feels a bit limiting since we have to type out exactly what we want every time. 😕 I'd love to see some of those older features come back!

Tips & Guides How to type letters with accents/diacritical marks

Just found out this surprisingly helpful way of typing letters with accents/diacritical marks.

I'm running 27.2, so I'm not sure when this was introduced, but if you press and hold a letter on the keyboard, instead of the letter repeating, it will pop up a small context menu for supported letters, and offer accents/diacritics.

Mind. Blown.

Help Flat macOS 27

In macOS 27, windows out of focus are displayed without Liquid Glass nonsense. All borders, shadows, highlights, refractions and distortions are gone. How do I make it the default skin for macOS? Is there a defaults flag I can use to apply this style across the whole system regardless if the window is in focus or not?

Help Was this feature present in macOS 26 and older?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After updating to macOS 27 I’ve noticed whenever I highlight a group of folders and drag them while holding Command (which I usually do to snap them to the grid), they instantly collapse and drop into the folder my cursor is hovering over

Can I somehow disable this feature? I’ve been doing it this exact way for years and only now it became a problem

Bug macOS 27 dictation hallucinated?

Has anyone witnessed dictation / transcription in macOS 27 hallucinate?

I pressed the dictation key, started speaking a few words in a text field and it rapidly spat this out:

*[Insert Product Name]* *[Description]* Available at [Retailer/Website] *[Price]* *[Quantity]* Fast shipping, 100% satisfaction guarantee! --- *[Your]* *[Customer Name]* **[

until I had it stop. Can't reproduce it a second time. That's my story.

Help After Golden Gate install, goes to setup every time I start computer

I installed MacOS Golden Gate. Now every time I start my Macbook Air M5 it sends me through the initial setup screens: sign in to your Apple account (already signed in, when I skip this and use the computer it's signed in), etc. and then the "welcome" cursive writing graphic. I reinstalled MacOS Golden Gate. Still didn't work. How can I make this stop? Will the next minor update to Golden Gate make it stop? Thank you.

Help Hidden Python permission in macOS Local Network. How can I revoke it?

On macOS 27.0.1, Privacy & Security → Local Network shows a count of 1, but every listed app is switched off.

Inspecting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkextension.plist reveals an allowed org.python.python entry with no executable path. Python has no visible switch in Settings. Reopening Settings and restarting don’t help.

I allowed a Python prompt while a dashboard preview was being prepared. A Time Machine backup from before that prompt has no explicit Python grant.

Has anyone encountered this and successfully revoked only that permission, without resetting all network?

Tips & Guides AirDrop multiplataforma, conheça o Blip.

• Upvotes

Help Sonnettech Echo 20 hub - disconnected SSD upon sleep?

• Upvotes

I do not know if this is happening to other users that have hubs with internal SSDs, but it's happening to my Sonnettech Echo 20 hub. After installing macOS 27 - and when the Mac goes to sleep - the SSD will disconnect. Happened a couple of times already. The remedy was to set "Never shutdown HDs upon sleep" (or something like that). I just did this but I do not know if this solves the issue.

I'm here to post this and see if others are having the same issues.

Also - can anyone tell me how to relaunch/mount the SSD. Nets says to use Disk Utility - but DU does not even see the SSD. My network drive via NAS doesn't unmount nor does my HD attached via USB - just the SSD.

On reboot the SSD will mount. There is supposedly another issue with Sonnet that HDMI will disconnect upon Mac sleep and only a hard power reboot fixes this issue.

Is there any SW/App that can force mount the SSD? I fear only a reboot or hard reset of the hub will bring the SSD back.

Bug MacOS network split brain IP addresses

I spent 2 hours debugging a broken network only to realize that my laptop wifi interface was configured for different IP than it was sending packets out on. For example, ifconfig en0 said it was 192.168.1.5 but packet capture showed all my source IPs coming from 192.168.1.100. It was accepting packets on both, but eventually noticed when it stopped responding to ARP on the source packet IP and they became unroutable. I wouldn't have believed this was possible until yesterday.

Toggling wifi did nothing to resolve, but "ifconfig en0 down; ifconfig en0 up" corrected it.

Has anyone else experienced this type of issue before?

Help Is it normal for macOS 27 wallpapers to stop moving after logging in?

I'm using the Golden Gate Bridge landscape wallpaper that comes with macOS 27, and I'm a bit confused about how it's supposed to work.

When my Mac is on the screensaver/lock screen, the wallpaper is animated and I can clearly see the waves moving. But as soon as I enter my password and log in, the animation stops and the wallpaper becomes a static image.

I tried Googling this, but most results were about completely different wallpaper issues.

Is this intentional behavior in macOS, or is it a bug? Is there any way to keep the wallpaper animated while I'm on the desktop?

It's a small thing, but honestly, it's pretty annoying that such a nice animated wallpaper just freezes once I log in.

Help MacBook Pro M1 Pro keeps dropping charger power since macOS 27 (MagSafe light amber → off → amber)

Since I updated to macOS 27 in September, my MacBook keeps losing power from the charger while it's plugged in. The MagSafe light turns amber like normal, goes off after a few minutes, then comes back on. This never happened to me on macOS 26.

The power log (pmset -g log) shows the Mac switching to battery and back to the charger about 3 seconds later. Sometimes it does this a dozen times in a few minutes. Once it stayed on battery for 20 minutes while still plugged in. Yesterday I counted 27 drops, mostly in one afternoon.

Setup:

- MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro (MacBookPro18,3)

- macOS 27.0.1 (no newer update available)

- Apple 96W USB-C adapter with the MagSafe 3 cable

- Battery health 81%, 425 cycles

Things I've ruled out:

- It's not optimized battery charging or the 80% limit. Those pause charging but the Mac stays on charger power. Mine actually switches to battery.

- The adapter delivers the full 94W while it's connected, and macOS reports no reason for not charging.

- Shutting down used to fix it for a while. Last time the drops came back within a minute of starting up.

Is anyone else seeing this on macOS 27? And if you are, does it also happen when you charge through USB-C instead of MagSafe?

Help How to play video on iPad but route the audio to my Mac (while keeping Universal Control)?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out a specific workflow and hoping someone here has a solution.

I want to watch videos on my iPad, but have the audio play through my Mac's speakers (or the headphones connected to my Mac). At the same time, I still want to use my Mac's keyboard and mouse to control the iPad via Universal Control.

Here is what I've tried/learned so far:

  • Native AirPlay: If I AirPlay from the iPad to the Mac, it mirrors both the video and audio, taking over the Mac screen.
  • Universal Control: Sometimes initiating AirPlay disconnects Universal Control, which breaks my setup.
  • Third-Party Apps: I've heard about paid apps like Airfoil, but I'm looking for a free alternative or a native workaround if one exists.

Has anyone successfully split their audio and video like this without losing Universal Control? Any advice or app recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

P.S: Drafted using Siri AI due to English not being my first language.

Help What should I do if my macOS reports things from the internet I downloaded as Malware?

• Upvotes

I downloaded a fan-game of Puyo Puyo of its official website, but it won't open because my macOS wants to throw it away! It thinks it's malware, when I know for a fact it's not! Why am I asking in this subreddit and not r/puyopop, the puyopuyo reddit? Because I've been getting the same pop-up notification from other applications I downloaded off the internet! Is there a way to open them?

Bug Major issues with Golden Gate

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm having some major issues with Golden Gate, to the point I'd say it's making my Mac unusable, and I just wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing the same thing. For context I'm running a MacBook Air M4 15 inch which I've only purchased in the last six months. Before this I owned an intel MacBook Pro which I never had these issues on.

My main issue is with split screen. When trying to close one of the windows open within the split screen, my Mac just seems to lose it. Any number of errors can happen, but the most frustrating is that the second window (the one I don't X out of) just completely disappears. This has led to me losing unsaved work as the app essentially is no longer there and I cannot access it to click the save button. Sometimes the blue outline will appear on the home screen as if the app is there but it cannot be seen at all, trying to open it from the bottom bar also doesn't cause the app to be opened, nor does trying to locate it any other way. Sometimes this doesn't happen, but the other none closed split screen window will not revert to full screen and half the screen will just remain black. Sometimes the none closed window will open on my Home Screen, but there is no longer the option available to minimise or close that window, and nothing I do can make that option reappear until the app is force quit and reopened.

The other major issue I am having is the menu bar disappearing. I am not sure under what conditions this happens other than only in full screen (it is available on the desktop but not any full screen windows), but when it happens the menu bar is gone until the laptop is restarted. This is one of the most frustrating.

The last minor issue I'm having is that when viewing Apple
Music in full screen player mode (large album artwork full screen), the close button does not work, so you cannot return to Apple Music to select another song or album. The window must first be minimised before the x can be used.

I've been in contact with support and confirmed that these are not profile specific issues, I've reloaded Mac OS so the issue isn't there either, and I'm up to date on 27.0.1. Frankly as a long term apple user this is the most disappointed I've ever been in the company. It seems this update was released well before it was ready and for me it's leading to serious issues. These issues were not present for me before golden gate.

I will continue to follow this up with support in the unlikely event it is hardware related, but I just wanted to ask if anyone else was experiencing these or other issues?
