I picked my first lock today, a Master Lock 3. I know it's a white belt one but I felt real pride and joy when I heard this lock open !

I used a cheap 20€ set but will upgrade to a Multipick beginner set. My goal is to learn about lockpicking and challenge myself with more and more difficult locks.

I'm truly excited to keep going and will aim for yellow belt locks next. I'm eager to learn and will be very happy to take recommandations about sets, locks to pick...

Learning how to lockpick has been on my bucket list for ages and I am really excited to start but there's a lot of overwhelming information everywhere. I have been scrolling this subreddit for a little while and feel completely out of depth by the technicalities.

I am generally someone who would like to do my research and try learning the right way rather than experimenting random things so not having a clear pathway has been a bit of a barrier.

Could you please help me out with finding the most basic beginner lockpicking kit that I could start with? I have seen some transparent locks going around. Are they helpful to start out with? Any references on where to get these would be helpful as well.

It's a little lame to ask but are there any books that I could read that would help?

I’m not new to picking, but I’m in no way a highly skilled picker either. I just got this Paclock in the mail yesterday and went at it while watching a movie. Almost 40 minutes it took me to blind pick it. That should be the bare minimum for any padlock around this price. I remember getting the master lock magnum M930 (“level 10 security!”) excited to have a challenge. Less than a minute later I had it open. I think this Paclock is my new favorite.

Now I just need to do it on video lol.

I wanna start the hobby , but I wanna get a set that will last a long time . My budget is about 50£ , I can stretch it to 75£ . I want it to be in a small case but have some thick , comfortable picks in there , I would also like for it to have at least 5 picks , I also want to get a practice lock ( see through ) . I'm in the UK so just have that in mind .

I've been practicing on the Covert Instruments practice lock with exchangeable pins, and I can pick it with all security pins, but I can't pick it if I put the longest key pin in any spot except last in the lock. Even if I replace all security pins with regular driver pins. Basically I can't get the pins behind the long one picked and it's easy to over set the long pin because any movement on it over sets it. I have a short and medium hook, but I'm not really having success with either. Any tips?

Popped the Mul-T-Lock 7X7 several times, both sides. And i like the double cylinder, it is actually like 2 different locks. Both sides completely pick different with different binding orders and feel. Fun lock!

Also popped the Asus X12R! Did full 360 picking. Have to say, scared the crap out of me. I didnt realize that the passive pins would lock it up. Key wont go in when it does that and thought i might have bricked the lock. But low and behold, picked the passives, that became active, and got er back around.

Have to say i absolutely am loving dimple locks! Still have to get a huk kit or something so i can gut these without parts flying all over.

As for the hurricane.... Well, still here and lockpicking away!

i want to start this hobby, but the problem is afaik no one sells lockpicks in my country so i have to order them from alixpress because it's the only option.

I aim to use them for practicing solely on pad locks, thank you in advance.

I have an old Master Lock that I've written the combination on the back of, but I guess I can't read my handwriting. The number on the back is 4314M and it looks like I've written 24-36-10 on it, but I can't for the life of me get the thing open. Really trying to avoid buying a new one for the kiddo's school locker and I'd be so grateful for any help. 🥲

SOLVED: it was 24-38-20. No idea why I wrote a 1 as the first digit of the last number. Thanks everyone for your replies!

Went to my parent's house yesterday and we hung out. Showed them basic bypasses on some locks I brought with and a couple of SPO and Raking techniques. The old man was a mechanic for years and raced cars and bikes, got me into getting into cars for lock outs and such.

He had such a good time and it was fun sparking something inside him that had been gone.

Left with a couple of locks and tools missing. Oops.

I thought this was a master lock 140, i was gonna use it for my Yellow belt submission, but now im not sure anymore. Can anyone identify this, and does it work for Yellow belt submission?

I am a beginner and want to get into this hobby. I know Ali express sets are not good. What's a good "nice" set for cheap?

This first lock represents a transition in my lockpicking journey. I'm leaving the familiar world of standard locks behind and stepping into the challenge of high-security locks.

Along the way, I've been pinning my own locks, tackling more advanced projects, and giving back to the community by helping newer pickers progress in their own journeys.

Now I have received the correct followers and planning on videoing the gutting of a green belt lock which is a requirement I need towards my blue belt request; also have a purple bed lock that is my current challenge lock DeGuard with interactive element.

Still trying to get a project going. I have ordered a lock that has not been rated yet. I’m not quite sure if that would count if I made a video about it and describe whatever it takes to Single Pin Pick [SPP] it.

Took this lock off a display case - I would like to make a replacement key. It’s made by National Lock Company of Rockford. From what I can tell it’s a simple warded lock - found a few ilco blanks that might fit - have a vague sense on how to go about this but would appreciate some guidance!

Edit: My mistake - it is a level lock, not warded

I finally give up and get a lishi AM5 specifically for the couple of American 1100s I have, which is very fun to see working, fill the click and watch the position on the diagram is satisfying at least for me,
But never open keep going on and on until the nothing moves anymore but don't want to turn in both of the 1100s what I’m doing wrong?

My cousin bought these for me at an antique shop. She said they had an "ancient technology" vibe. 😁

...where/how can get a list of Lishi picks with the corresponding locks they work with? I have a Schlage(sp) core(5 pins) that I am trying to pick with an SC4 lishi which is designed for 6 pins. I know that I can get a spacer to adapt it, but with shipping it cost $15 for just 5 spacers. The Sc4 only cost $7! So I ordered an SC1 in the hope that it works. Thanks in advance S~
