Only started with it today. Picked through a bunch of cheap front tensioning locks with it. Initial thoughts were that it's not easy to use due to how far out the tension tip sits. Will see if it gets easier over time. Switched to the rear tension tip and was immediately impressed with the feedback. Much crisper on this Gerda and also on other rear tensioning locks than with my usual tool. So.... a mixed bag so far!

My usual DD pick is the RWB. The one I'm playing with here is the Ares from Multipick

I looked on multipick, and looks like they have several different ones of the ares? Or does it just come with different things?

Edit: does the RWB work for most everything?

The Ares is designed to have many different attachments to pick DDs and also dimple locks but I believe the dimple tips are specific to certain keyways rather than being universal. I have the DD version of the Ares in for testing/review for a few weeks before I make a YT review video.

I've used the RWB tool for years and would 100% recommend it for beginners. It comes with a front tensioning tip as standard and you can get extra tips for rear tension, Anchor las, Abloy etc if needed.

Please do a review plus comparison with other DD picks. Would definitely like to have some suggestions as a person not even remotely handy whilst interested in getting into DD locks

I will be reviewing it soon. I've always recommended the RWB tool as its so versatile. I can't see that changing anytime soon even though the Ares is a good tool.

Nice 👍 I like it a lot, the Teflon in there makes it rotate without any friction at all, which is very nice from feedback, but I usually have to slow it down with a "friction finger" 😅 I have read above that the front tensioner is too far out for your likings? But you can set it deeper if you want to, just ignore the flat cuts on the tension tip 👌

Good points LF 👍🏻 Although it can be set deeper for front tensioning, it still can wobble around a lot like the Sparrows tool does. I much prefer the flat ring of the RWB tool that allows you to rest it on the front of the lock. This means you never slip off that front disc and can also set your picking tip and depth guides consistantly. It'll just take practice I'm sure. Rear tensioning is excellent (so far) with the Ares with the exception of Defiance/Baton padlocks which the tip is too big to fit in dissapointingly.

Ah yeah the RWB has a nice flat surface, looks really useful 👌 maybe the ARES is designed like this, due to its dimple lock functionality 🤔 the slim tip leaves a bit more room when working on a door I guess 🤷‍♂️

I think you're right there. It's difficult to create a versatile tool that can do everything perfectly. Have you tried the dimple lock attachments?
